But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. Dattu Sopan Bhandare, 80, lives alone in Mudegaon village of the Beed district in Maharashtra. Hit by drought, his children have moved to urban areas and after his wife died a few years back, he has to take care of himself. But life has been hard for Dattu, as he cannot work in the fields any longer to meet his basic needs. “I feel helpless and I have gone to bed hungry many times,” he says.That was before Manavlok came to Dattu’s rescue. We strive to provide them with the best preventive, curative and rehabilitative care, with an intention to minimize their physical pain and suffering.We have a team of committed caregivers, who take care of all their needs with utmost dedication and love. A caregiver is assigned for every two members so that they receive personalized attention. Every day, they are served four freshly prepared meals along with dietary supplements like milk and juices as per their needs. We also provide them geriatric support and counseling so that they are never overwhelmed by their condition and understand the specific ‘dos and don’ts’.At ElderCare Trust, we understand that giving our members the best medical care and alleviating their physical pain is just not enough. Senior citizens at our center have been contributing to society all their life and they deserve all the happiness, joy and love during this last leg of their lives. So, we aim to create a holistic environment for them. With an intention to encourage companionship, various outdoor and indoor recreational activities are carried out on a daily basis.
