"My son used to kick me when he was in my womb. Why make an issue when he kicked me in my old age?" reasons a very forgiving Shakti Dasi. The widow travelled 2300 kms from Tripura to Vrindavan after her only son violently beat her with a burning plank of wood and broke her knee one evening. She had to leave behind the business she had built with her husband who had died a few years back. Shakti ended up on the streets of Brindavan begging for food and shelter. But when Winnie Singh of Maitri saw Shakti in a frail state in tattered clothes, she brought her to the shelter home where Shakti gets food, care and medicines. What more, with Maitri’s intervention, Shakti reconciled with her son - and daughter-in-law, and now travels home to Tripura twice a year to spend time with her grandchildren. But she is not leaving Maitri, as this has become her family.Not every elderly widow who comes to Vrindavan after being abandoned by her family gets as lucky as Shakti. Many of them often end up living a lonely life and begging to survive on the streets. After being thrown out of their often abandoned by their own children and are forced to beg for food and shelter. “Through Project Jeevan, Maitri houses aging widow mothers in two ashrams in Vrindavan and Radhakund (Mathura), providing them with wellness and well-being. The programme also reaches out to widow mothers beyond the ashrams with fruit, milk and healthcare services,” explains Winnie Singh, co-founder and executive director, Maitri India.Save homeless elderly widows from begging on the streetsMost widows who make their way to Vrindavan are abandoned by their families, often after years of abuse. They come here hoping they will spend the rest of their days in prayer and devotion. But most live in impoverished conditions on the streets and in dingy rooms. The region identified for the proposed intervention encompasses the districts in the southern part of Haryana state and north-east part of Rajasthan in India. The region falls under the National Capital Region (NCR) and forms a part of the Aravalli hills ecosystem and both region falls under the boundary periphery of each state.                            The continuous deforestation has resulted in extensive soil erosion, loss of topsoil, silting up of river channels and reservoirs, reduced land fertility and lowering of the groundwater table. The entire Aravalli Range has become ecologically sensitive and critically fragile thanks to the undue development works (mushrooming of Real Estate business, Industrial zone etc). The situation is exacerbated with illegal mining and reduced forestland and encroachment of existing commons.The region has shown a sustained decline in rainfall, for example in Mahendragarh district, the average annual rainfall has gone from 696.5 mm in 1983 to 368.0 mm in 2017. Also, as per the vulnerability atlas published by the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, the region is one of the most vulnerable areas as far as Climate Change is concerned. The ground-water too has been constantly depleting in the district, with the rate of depletion being as high as 2m/year over the 2004-2014 period in some of the regions. 
 The project is focused on tackling the adverse impacts of climate change by empowering local physical systems; hence the vision is to establish a snowball impact of knowledge dissemination and awareness generation among the communities to develop resilience against the imposed hazards. The program will cover:<ol><li>Finalization of villages - Villages will be identified based on the current scenario and vulnerability associated with climate change and its adverse impacts.</li><li>Selection of village-level coordinators: 2 eligible and motivated Coordinators will be screened and enrolled in the program based on their intent and interest.</li><li>Conducting TOT: TOT for Coordinators on climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices which will be a mix of theory and practice to equip them with the desired level of knowledge.</li><li>Awareness generation and capacity building: Training of farmers on best practices related to climate and sustainable agriculture by forming groups of farmers (training with each group covering a total of 400 farmers covering 35-40 batches).</li><li>Plantation drives: Plantation drives to promote green cover and horticulture in the area.</li><li>Ensuring the adoption: Adoption of above-shared practices by farmers via one-to-one household visits and mentoring on best practices on climate resilient farm practices.</li></ol> 
 Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of the extreme weather and climate events that are affecting all countries. However, because of their geographical location, reliance on climate-sensitive natural resources and development gaps in general, developing countries, and low-income countries in particular, are at the greatest risk of climate hazards. Left unattended, climate hazards are likely to increase poverty, worsen inequalities, exacerbate food insecurity and cause health problems, among other hardships, which may reverse years of development progress in some countries. The intervention will cover 400 farmers and the following impact is anticipated from the program activities 1.   Empowered Coordinators (Climate resource person) who will act as a catalyst of change in their respective villages and help others with the adoption of best practices related to climate-smart and sustainable agriculture.2.   Increased awareness and knowledge on climate resilience, agroforestry and sustainable agriculture within the community that will lead to decreased number of climate prone hazards.3.   Increase in green cover within the villages by horticulture promotion which will also result in increased livelihood for the villagers.

Promoting climate resilience among women farmers in Rewari, Haryana and Alwar, Rajasthan India.

In the project area, 80% of the total rural population is dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. The land holdings are small and getting further fragmented. Presently the majority of people are engaged in traditional farming, mainly field crops. The income from the traditional crops is limited. Farmers also use flood irrigation methods resulting in rampant withdrawal of groundwater for agriculture as most of the area proposed does not have canals. As a result, the underground water resources are fast depleting with very little efforts to recharge them. In last few years we have noticed farmers losing lots of money due to sudden change in monsoon setting and withdrawal time, change in temperature, humidity etc. This is happening more frequently in recent years. All of this calls for an urgent need to train and prepare farmers in understanding the impact of climate on the farming and prepare them accordingly so as to minimize its negative impact. 
 The overall objective of the project is to promote climate smart farming in order to lower the vulnerability of the beneficiaries to climate change impact. Following are the objectives of the project:1.      Promotion of soil nutrient smart practices: By practicing integrated nutrient management, organic farming, multi cropping etc. in agriculture.2.      Promotion of water smart practices: by recharging ground water level through creation of water harvesting structures.3.      Capacity building of the farmers: Capacity building of farmers by conducting continuous meetings, trainings etc.4.      To promote horticulture farming which consume less water, need less labour, give more returns and also improves environment.The project is intended to lower the vulnerability of the rural population by providing those means of adaptation to climate change impacts. The project will adopt activities which have already been recognized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research to be village level interventions towards climate resilient agriculture. Some of the activities proposed under the project are  Community mobilization and selection of farmers,Training of farmers and capacity building, Exposure visit (modern farm, KVK, IARI, Agri Tech Fairs etc) to best practices, Supply of high-quality  Saplings, Soil health card and Kisan Credit Card, Kisan Credit Card and develop Market Linkage . 
 The proposed project will cover 500 farmers from 20 villages in the block with plantation of 4800 fruit saplings .Results expected from the proposed project are :1.The horticulture will have an income potential of Rs. 50 million per year from fourth year onwards, employment generation for farmers  and will improve family nutrition by adding the fruits cultivated to local diet especially among the women and children.2. Awareness about water conservation and as result more and more people adopt less water consuming crops.3. Awareness and capacity to deal with impact of climate change thus minimizing the negative impact of climate change on farming4. Farmers will have sustainable livelihood through farming as a result of adopting scientific farming.5.Increased understanding of villagers regarding water resources management which will lead to collective action in terms of rain water harvesting, groundwater recharge, proper storage and its sustainable usage.6.Improve the green cover in the vicinity of the NCR and positively impact the quality of air.

Train and prepare farmers for climate resilient farming

The financial crises imposed by the pandemic has pushed many children out of school. Among the most important challenges created by COVID-19 is how to adapt to a system of education built around physical schools. Families too are struggling to pay the fees of their children besides daily expenses. It is a huge setback and mental stress for many parents trying to support their children's basic needs and education. In ₹1,210 you can support a child with education and hygiene kit.END POVERTY, through this project, is providing School Books, Stationery, Health &amp; Hygiene Kit, Sports equipment and other learning materials to the school children living in Tijara Block of Alwar district, Rajasthan for this academic year.  Since 2010, End Poverty has already provided education to 2726 adolescent girls from 92 villages in Tijara Block of Alwar district of Rajasthan. Girls are able to read, do household calculations, help their parents at home in matters where reading, writing and numeracy are needed.We are doing our best to help children continue their studies in such a difficult time since Covid-19. This will help the children as well as their families to have a ray of hope in these tough times.Below initiatives taken in our project location Tijara Block of Alwar district of Rajasthan. a) School Books, Stationery and learning materials to 450 students of I to IV Class.b) 1850 Handmade masks in 5 Schools.Your contribution of Rs. 1210 per child would provide School Books, Stationery, Health &amp; Hygiene Kit, Sports equipment’s and other learning materials to 450 children covering 15 villages from classes I – VIII.Each kit will consist of a school bag, geometry box, notebooks, pencil box , pens, erasers, sharpeners, colors, learning materials, sports equipments( badminton racket , shuttle ,rope) and health and hygiene kit etc.“It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving ” -- Mother Teresa 
 450 children will continue their education through the help of these kits. The families will be free from the burden of additional expenses of school stationery items and basic needs of children’s life. So that children can focus on their studies and dropout rates will also decrease.

In Tijara block of Alwar district of Rajasthan, India around 90 % people depend on farming for their livelihood. They generally grow field crop and use flood irrigation methods. Thus, they end up using excessive ground water resources. Recharging the ground water is a big problem and as a result ground water is depleting very fast. 
 END POVERTY is promoting horticulture farming under the brand name  "Plant a Tree for Life"  to improve the income of small farmers in a sustainable manner. Program is implemented in Tijara block of Alwar district of Rajasthan, India as horticulture farming is the best solution towards sustainable farming as it consumes less water, gives more returns, needs less labour, improve the local environment and family nutrition. To promote sustainability and reduce water consumption in farming, EP is helping farmers to diversify from field crops to horticulture crops. Plant a tree for Life aims to improve the livelihood and the capacities of vulnerable rural communities in Tijara block of Rajasthan in a sustainable manner by promoting horticulture farming.Key Focus Thematic Areas :• Creating Sustainable Livelihood• Improving environment To further support Tijara farmers that grow fruit and vegetables in sales and marketing of their produce at competitive prices, End Poverty has formed a Fruits and Vegetable Producer Company "Dinker Agriculture Producer Company Limited" to support small and marginal farmers in Tijara this year with a purpose to enhance farm productivity, efficient value chain development and providing market linkage thus eliminating the petty traders who often exploit the farmers.End Poverty wants to raise funds for PLANT A TREE FOR LIFE PROJECT ( PTFL ) as horticulture farming gives higher returns, need less water &amp; labour and improves environment &amp; nutrition in family. 
 End Poverty has planted around 40305 fruit tress covering 749 farmers from 70 villages. Fruit trees include lemon, guava, sweet lime, kinoo, goose berry, pomegranate, papaya, amla, ber and other citrus fruits.End Poverty wants to raise funds for planting 5000 fruit trees/ saplings in a period of 1 year ( 1st January -31st Dec2020) .Cost per plant is Rs 100 which includes cost of sapling, basal treatment, supervision , farmers training etc.
