For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Every year, millions of school days are lost due to illness. It is estimated that a lot of these days could be reduced if children washed their hands with soap regularly. Therefore, it is imperative to educate children on the importance of adopting hand washing with soap practices in order to keep both themselves and others healthy. Children perform better when they function in a hygienic and clean environment. Lack of private sanitation facilities for girls discourages parents from sending girls to school and this contributes to the drop out of girls. 82 Government and Government aided schools are functioning in Athoor Block of Dindigul district. The programme aims to address the issues of inadequacy, poor quality construction, improper use and maintenance as well as gender imbalance with regards to WASH facilities. 
 The project will aim towards ensuring required funding provision is made to implement the augmentation and retrofitting of WASH facilities in Athoor, block. These include retrofitting of toilets, urinals, creation of group hand washing stations, solid and liquid waste management, menstrual hygiene management, and food hygiene. Along with the creation / augmentation of WASH infrastructure, the project would also be undertaking training and capacity building of functionaries and institutional building to ensure sustainability of WASH compliant status of the schools.The menstrual hygiene facilities provided in the schools are inadequate. The structures are not designed to facilitate the physically challenged persons Safe disposal of used water is highly improper. There is no functional, separate hand washing facilities available in schools. The sanitary facilities provided exclusively for girls do not offer any privacy. The drinking water available in the schools and way of handling needs improvement. There is poor operation and maintenance of WASH facilities. Hand washing practices among the teachers is also very poor. The participation of the School &amp;the Management Committee (SMC) and Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) on the use and maintenance of WASH facilities needs to be improved. The local bodies are not sending their training staff regularly to the schools. The disposal of solid and liquid waste needs modification and improvement.   
 The project addresses the major issue which is stunting the growth of the community and envisaged a structured approach in order to ensure sustainability. Children are agents of change are being proved in various project and are receptive to new learning..Moreover Hygiene education and promotion of hand washing are simple, cost-effective measures that can reduce diarrhea cases by up to 45%. Even when ideal sanitation is not available, instituting good hygiene practices in communities will lead to better health. Proper hygiene goes hand-in-hand with the use of improved facilities to prevent disease.Better learning and retention among school children. An average of 30 cases of laparoscopic sterilization are done per month at completely free of cost and we have been able to discharge them on next day with great patient satisfaction and early recovery.Major surgeries are like Laparoscopy Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, LAVH, URS, TURD, LAP Ovarian Cystectomy, LAP Ectopic pregnancy, Lap Hysterectomy, etc., are being done in our institution on rental basis.Major advantages are less scar, less trauma to overall body, less rate of infection, less number of hospital stay, less post-operative pain, early ambulation, early recovery and will return to work in advance.Laparoscopy is also comes under in CM Health Insurance scheme.
