Children with special needs don't receive a good education because they are often not accepted in mainstream schools. Our target group is children with disabilities(CWD) such as cerebral palsy, mental retardation, speech and hearing Impairment, visual impairment(partial), locomotive disability, and others. Under this project, 59 different children will be taken care of every week. In this way, service can be scaled up to 125 children with disability in a year. We are providing opportunities to Children with Disability so that they can be brought into the mainstream. Out of the 125, 64 children received therapy intervention. Nineteen children with a disability receive regular therapy from Monday to Thursday, and the other 45 have been divided into four groups of children that visit once every week. We also provide counseling to parents who need some clarity on therapy intervention, and also about how to take the best care of their child with special needs. The time allocated to each child depends on the severity of their condition.Out of 125, 111 children are receiving special education. Approximate 35 children with a disability receive special education five days per week, basis their condition and age. We also look after eight hyperactive and autistic children who need individual attention. On every Friday, we organise sports and activity classes in which five extra children are included. We try our best to make lives easier for these children and their parents. We understand how difficult it can be for parents to look after their child with special needs. Therefore, we provide them with training and counsel whenever required. A lot of disabled children in the Garden Reach Slums of West Bengal do not receive the support they need, and this project is dedicated to providing the same. Garden Reach Institute for the Rehabilitation and Research will work with other NGOs in the area while also providing them with assistance if and when needed. The project will focus on promoting awareness about the existing benefits, offer support, and influence the government policy for the betterment of the lives of these slum-dwellers.Garden Reach Institute For The Rehabilitation And Research Day Care Special school team will visit the different slums in the district to assess community services. They will identify the disabled children and determine what their primary needs are. Then, the Day Care Special School team will decide on the best plan of action for the children. Garden Reach Institute For The Rehabilitation And Research's mission is to build an Inclusive Education and Rehabilitation Centre centre will include special education, physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.Our Inclusive education and rehabilitation centre is fully accessible and disabled friendly. The staff are qualified special educators, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and community mobilizers. They first identify developmentally and visually challenged children and children and adults with advanced forms of disabilities. After identification, they develop child-specific individual plans through multidisciplinary discussions with the whole team and the parents. Goals and activities are set with time-frames. That plan is then followed and periodically reviewed by each team member.The Inclusive education &amp; Rehabilitation units also enable the parents to handle their wards and empower them with information about rights and entitlements. They then help the GRIRR team to raise awareness on disability within the communities in which they live. The Centre is disability friendly and provides for easy locomotion through wheelchairs.Most importantly, these children are prepared through school readiness programs to enter regular schools. The overall objective is INCLUSION, at all levels. The Inclusive Education &amp; Rehabilitation project has received tremendous response from parents of disabled children and other community members. Within a short span of time, the project has started reaching children with disabilities, from Garden Reach slum location, and we are also getting requests from other places. Considering the success of this project, GRIRR would like to expand it to cover other areas of Garden Reach as well as the nearby areas of Greater Kolkata region. The main purpose will be to help the children to become increasingly more independent in life-skills, which in turn will lead to successful inclusion in school and work-places. If needed in specific cases, the team members will visit homes of children to provide required services.The Centre is divided into two areas; one area is for special education and another for therapeutic care. There will be opportunities for referrals for surgery, orthoses and prosthesis, pensions, health insurance, employment opportunities, and opportunities for participation in cultural/sports events, both inclusive and exclusive. In short, a whole new world will open up for them.

Garden Reach Institute for The Rehabilitation and Research is a non-profit organization working for the marginalized community in Kolkata. Established in 2014 in Garden Reach, Kolkata, West Bengal, as an inclusive education center for children with disabilities, we have grown into an organization offering comprehensive, integrated support and services for most vulnerable children through our initiatives at our inclusive education and physiotherapy rehabilitation center for Children with Disabilities, community based rehabilitation, education and training, and slum development programme.Inclusive Education &amp; Physiotherapy Centre of Excellence for Disabled is our key initiative to provide special education and physiotherapy services to the children with disabilities. The centre is an integrated support unit having physiotherapy facilities, outreach clinics, an inclusive school for children with disabilities and small orthopaedic workshop. Situated on the Garden Reach at Ram Nagar Lane near Dhankhetti Bazar is a landmark in the area.We support children from the most underprivileged backgrounds to become self-reliant and enjoy their right to a dignified life. All our children are encouraged until they complete their education (in some cases courses like Basic Computer, Speaking English ) and placed into a suitable job. Garden Reach Institute for The Rehabilitation and Research provides education, health care, counselling services and rehabilitation to Community children, children living in the slums, poor children with disabilities, children affected by seasonal migration and orphaned by violence through its various programs. We also provide professional and technical training to adolescents and youth.
