For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. The support required in the said critical illness varies from specific surgeries (including neonatal), Cath Lab Interventions, along with recovery and recuperation post-surgery.So far, the Foundation has supported medical treatment 3100+ critically ill children. The children supported by the Foundation belong to families with a monthly income of less than or equal to Rs 20,000 ($262) per month. In India, it is estimated that over 200,000 infants are born every year with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) and out of these, more than 70,000 are born with critical CHD and require intervention within the first year of life to survive. Currently, advanced cardiac care is available to only a minority of such children as most cardiac care centers are in metropolitan cities. Many underprivileged families suffer through the trauma of losing their child due to the lack of awareness, financial resources, infrastructure, high levels of poverty, and the cost of surgery. We’re changing this demographic by providing financial support to lesser-privileged children who need heart defect surgeries all across India. Our support varies from specific surgeries (including neonatal), cath lab interventions along with recovery and recuperation post-surgery. We are the foremost NGO in India focusing on the treatment of CHD, which is still an obscure space. Genesis Foundation supports children with CHD from families where monthly income is Rs 15,000 per month or lesser, allowing every child to access quality healthcare as a basic right to life. 
 We strive to Save Little Hearts with a clear vision that the life of every child is equally precious and no child should die due to a lack of funds. We envision an India devoid of deaths caused by Congenital Heart Defects. To ensure this, we work directly with families, guardians, doctors and social workers to provide timely and best medical treatment for underprivileged children. By partnering with hospitals that have advanced pediatric cardiac care we have a growing network of medical professionals who enable us to help these children. Moreover, to enhance the awareness at the grassroot level, we organize screening camps in remote parts of the country which has a two-fold benefit - awareness and early intervention of CHD. The Aara Project was born on Feb 7, 2017, the day which would have marked the first birthday of Aara Bhattacharyya. Aara was born with a rare congenital heart defect and after putting up a brave fight, left the family for heavenly abode when she was just four months old.Aara’s parents Priyal and Anami believe that Aara was born for a purpose, and their collaboration and association with Genesis Foundation has given wings to this purpose by ensuring that The Aara Project continues to provide these afflicted children the financial assistance they need and help them lead as normal a life as possible.
