“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. While Lalitha has also helped many women escape the clutches of being forced into sex work, the SPID is focused on rescuing children and giving them a better life.Sadly, many more children need to be rescued and need a loving home. “What will happen to them after me? I am 80+. I spend sleepless nights,” worries ex-Air Force officer, Group Captain AC Barua while talking about the future of the 28 destitute women under his care. “They have nobody in this world, sometimes they don’t remember their own names. They are absolutely alone,” he informs us as he goes from one room to the other meeting all the women who live at Seneh, the only home where they are loved and taken care of. After fighting for his country all his life, this octogenarian is now fighting to rescue homeless and abandoned women from dying on the streets. But he cannot do it alone. “Everyday I keep on getting calls from here and there. ‘Oh! there’s a woman lying here. Can you help?’ But I don’t dare to go and help because I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources, our resources are very limited,” explains Gr. Capt. Many times these are women with mental health conditions and considered being a witch due to superstitious beliefs and beaten up as a result. They are victims of domestic abuse or widow mothers who are considered to be a burden on the family. Group Captain Barua has not only rescued them from critical conditions, he has provided them with urgent medical care, food and above all, a free safe shelter where they can live with love and care. Among these residents is Sarala Kalita who fled to save herself from the tortures of her alcoholic husband only to face neglect and trauma from her brothers- and sisters-in-law. “Both my brothers and their wives urged my father to leave me somewhere as they didn’t want to take care of me anymore. One day my brother’s wife didn’t even let me have food at home. She just wanted me to leave and go away. So that’s why, my father got in touch with Seneh through someone, and handed me over to Sir to take care of me,” says Sarita who has found joy in living at Seneh. “Coming to Seneh, it felt like I got a new life altogether. Sir has given me a harmonium. I love singing. It makes me forget everything and takes me to someplace else entirely,” she adds. More women like Sarala can find their way to a loving home like Seneh. All they need is a little bit of your kindness. “It is difficult to make both ends meet”To sustain their daily expenditure, Capt Barua needs approx ₹3 lakh a month and arranging the funds is a mammoth challenge for the NGO. “Our expenses are growing day by day. Residents are growing older, their sicknesses are increasing. At times we have to give them special food. They require more care so we have to get more employees. About half of them require leading around, 1-2 has to be fed also. It will be very difficult to sustain it unless we get help,” he added. One act of your kindness can save these abandoned women, with no one in this world, from struggling on the streets to survive. Goranbose Gram Bikash Kendra (GGBK) is a registered non-profit voluntary organization registered under the W.B. Societies Registration Act-1961 and has FCRA Certificate from the Ministry of Home Affairs. We work on the issue of Human Trafficking, Child Rights, Woman Rights, and Climate Change impact on communities and also provide special need assistance to affected persons in the Sunderban delta of South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal.Through our process and project, we work as a facilitator and train the communities and the leaders of the collective in building resilient communities through Prevention, Protection, Rehabilitation and strengthening Criminal Justice System. Our activities are intervention-based, creating awareness among the community and helping them develop livelihood opportunities.We work directly with community leaders, survivors of human trafficking and marginalized and vulnerable groups. GGBK acts as a facilitator helping the community and survivor leaders to be an implementer with the support of CSRs and Funding partners. Over the past years, GGBK has worked directly with survivors of various forms of gender-based violence. Since the last few years, their focus has been on rehabilitative and retributive justice for survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation who have come back to their respective source communities after being rescued from situations of exploitation in various states of India and abroad. GGBK has developed a collective of survivors of gender-based violence, namely the Bandhan Mukti Survivors' Collective. The organization mentors and empowers the collective to function as a defender of the human rights of the survivors.Presently GGBK is strategically intervening in the axis of gender-based violence, human trafficking, migration, climate change impact on the community, empowerment of adolescents and young adults, leadership and system building. GGBK works in collaboration with the community, survivors, youth, government and non-government stakeholders, police and administration, lawyers, social workers, psychologists, civil society organizations, judiciary and media. GGBK has interventions in West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Delhi. GGBK is part of different networks with CBOs, CSOs, NGOs, and part of different advisory and monitoring committees of the government. 2500 survivors are now in a forum as survivor leaders and there are survivors forums at State and National levels and they are advocating for systemic sustainable changes as co-facilitator with GGBK.Vision-GGBK envisages a community free from all evils, ensuring justice, equality and peace for development with community leadership.Mission-GGBK aims to create the best and most meaningful opportunities for the vulnerable without discrimination ensuring enough means to lead a life with dignity. It also aims to adopt disaster management and mitigate climate change issues. GGBK accords particular emphasis on raising and developing outstanding leaders among women, youth and children as good citizens. We have taken up preferential options for the poor and decided to work with the poor on equal terms with the poor.

According to the comprehensive Amphan damage report and current context, embanks of Sunderban delta that spread over 160km were wiped out in the cyclone, taking the loss on this count to Rs. 5000 Cr. Hectares of farmland and fisheries have been affected. This is the report of only a single disaster but as we know Sunderban has to face several cyclone and disasters repeatedly every year which causes poverty, loss of life, livelihood, shelter and people are forced to migrate at different states and abroad. After pandemic and super cyclones in the year 2022-2023, the cases of unsafe migration, gender based violence, human trafficking, child marriage, child labor have increased at a large scale. As per GGBK’s study the people from the vulnerable community have taken loans with high interest (18%) per month where they do not had any plan of repayment and which in turn increase the risk of debt bondage. To overcome from this situation sustainable alternative livelihood generation is need of the hour. It is challenge for these communities to avail the knowledge &amp; information of accessing the facilities. A barrier of access between the community and the Government centers is quite prevalent and not available in the location. 
 Training support  - <ul><li>Training on alternative livelihood options like handicrafts, food processing, jute work, organic farming, vermi-compost for livelihood generation.</li><li>Counseling and perspective building of the women and the community people for disaster preparedness and mitigation, access the livelihood.</li></ul>Linkage building  -<ul><li>Marketing &amp; linkage for tie-up with business agencies, local market, e-marketing &amp; government schemes.</li><li>Awareness generation and knowledge build up on disaster preparedness and Government welfare &amp; security scheme.</li></ul>Educational support<ul><li>Promote Education through non-formal education centre, after school and leadership development of children and adults. </li></ul>
