For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Poor old aged people undergoing great difficulties lacking & logging in love and affection and always are into mental stress, strain, for this reason, we started "OldAge Home for Poor Elders" with humanity and service to cater to the needs of such unfortunate elders. In Oldage Home, 50 old aged people are living and getting food, shelter, love, proper care, and other basic needs. Help Out Of School Children In India 32 million Indian children of age up to 13 years have never attended any school, the majority of them belonging to the socially disadvantaged class or poor families. In addition, 47 million children of secondary and higher secondary school-going age dropped out of school. Most government schools have a poor quality infrastructure, and lack teachers. Children mired in poverty are forced to drop out of school and find ways to survive.  Shockingly, there are more than 33 million child laborers below the age of 18 years in India, whereas they should be in school.

Animal Welfare

Children of poor families, where both parents go out to work are the most vulnerable. Their food, education and health needs are neglected. Gramin Vikas Sansthan started its first child welfare program in 2003 with 10 children living in slums. Today we support 80 children, between the age of 1 year to 6 years, from slums and villages around Chitrakoot district in three creche or day care centers. These children come from poor families where both parents work as construction or farm laborers. During work day, they are unable to take care of their children. Thanks to Gramin Vikas Sansthan daycare centers, they are able to leave their kids in a safe environment, from morning till evening. The children are provided hot mid-day meals, snacks in evening, and pre-school education. Our trained staff keeps the children engaged in recreational and learning activities.

Education

Women face discrimination across the world. This had led to great disparity in education, income, wealth and health. Women account for just 10% of the world’s income and own less than 1% of the world’s property. In India, the rate of literacy for men is 80.9 per cent as compared to 64.6% for women, and their participation in labor force is only 29%. Women Empowerment implies giving them independence, and choice in how they want to lead their lives. Freedom to choose to pursue education, whom they want to marry, career, bringing up children and more. When a woman is empowered, she can identify her skills, knowledge & abilities to make her own decisions. Empowerment is an evolving growth process for her, which gives her self-esteem, confidence to face society, and participate in community development. If a society to develop socially and economically, women empowerment is essential. Gramin Vikas Sansthan Women Development activities aim to empower women so that they can become earn their own incomes or become entrepreneurs. We provide sustainable livelihood opportunities through training programs in Computer Software Skills, Tailoring & Embroidery, and Fashion Designing. We also provide financial support in terms of arranging loans, providing free sewing machine and sewing kit.
