When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. It sought the task of educating and creating social awareness for the less fortunate thereby improving opportunities for a better standard of living. Gunjan reaches out to children, especially the girl child to promote empowerment, self-respect and self-reliance through education which gives our girls the confidence to break free of traditional roles, to pursue their dreams and grow up to be equal citizens of this countryMission Gunjan Foundation’s mission is to educate the less fortunate and to provide quality education to the less fortunate. For the past 18 years Gunjan Foundation had been running a school in Nathupur for children of various slums in the surrounding areas of the school. Currently, Gunjan Foundation is providing scholarship to around 210 school students and 5-6 students for advanced courses. Our first batch has passed out from 12th grade and has got admission in different colleges. We are proud to announce that one student has been admitted to the prestigious Ramjas College, Delhi University. Another student is now studying in Deen Dayal Singh College, an equally prestigious institute. We are indeed proud of the achievements of both these students. In 2023-24 we will be having 225 students (school &amp; Advanced education).We also lay special emphasis on free education and social emancipation for the girl child in consonance with the government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative. Education gives our girls the confidence to break free of traditional roles, to pursue their dreams and grow up to be equal citizens of this country.Vision We continue to believe strongly that education is the key to building a strong nation. Literacy does more for society in one generation than anything else. It does away with age-old rudimentary customs, ill beliefs, superstitions etc. As a result, since we made our humble beginnings in 2004, we have been primarily focusing on fulfilling educational needs and aspirations of the students. We have now widened our horizons further. For the past five years we have been financially supporting marginalized students who are pursuing advanced and professional courses. In addition, Gunjan has opened a new chapter in Jaipur with the sole intent of disbursing scholarships for college education. . One girl child is presently in IIT, Jodhpur and is being sponsored by us. We are also sponsoring 10 other needy students.Now Gunjan has also started a chapter in Ahmedabad to support needy children in their pursuit of school and college education.Gunjan is now looking at expanding its horizons and opening more such chapters in other cities too.Gunjan Foundation Scholarship Fund-Advanced EducationOur first batch has passed out from 12th grade and got admission in different colleges of Delhi University like Ramjas, Deen Dayal Singh etc.  Fulfilment of Objectives To provide scholarship to students who require it. Our main motto is to access people who economically can't afford higher education. We have been providing such scholarships for advanced courses for the past five years.  One of our students, Arpit Goel, whom we had sponsored, has completed his MBA from FORE School of Management.  Another student whom we are sponsoring is Abhay Sharma. He is pursuing a Hotel Management course from T.John College, Bangalore.                                                  English Speaking Course: Another initiative taken by Gunjan Foundation "An online English Conversation course" commenced from 27th August, 2022. The programme started with formal introduction of both the host Ms. Pramila Shah and 4 students to begin with.  The course content comprises of learning ways to praise pronunciation, similar words, vocabulary, Reading is fun and to convert the sentences from mother tongue to the global language i.e. English This program is likely to continue on every Wednesday and Saturday between 7 P.M to 8 P.M. For the funding of these classes we are grateful to Ms Renu Rungta who resides in the US. Saikripa (Orphanage) Saikripa is a non-profit registered society functioning since 1988 in NOIDA for the welfare of the parentless and underprivileged children and youth of society. We are providing midday meals to the underprivileged children of Saikripa orphanage. COVID-19     In 2020-21 we have distributed:.·        40 PPE Kits and 1000 N-95 Masks in Safdarjung Hospital, run by the government of Delhi·        150 Ration Kits and 1000 sanitizers through Dr. Kumar Vishwas.·        350 N-95 Masks to Bangla Sahib, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and cheque of Rs.21,000/-.·        167 Ration Kits to students of Swapna Sarthak School, class IV staff, maids of school teachers and construction labourers.·        75 Ration Kits to our alumni students through Delhi SRK Universe.·        30 Ration Kits for GB Road’s Sex Workers.·        50 N-95 Masks to guards, sweepers, dhobi, labourers etc.Project SmileIn 2013 Gunjan Foundation decided to start a collaborative project called ‘Project Smile’ to collect clothes, utensils, computers, toys, books etc. from various communities to distribute to children and families at Gunjan and other NGOs (Prayas, BalSahyog, Sapna, Naritaav, Nanak, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Sakshi, The Earth Saviours Foundation, Vidya, Manav Purt Nyas etc.). The belief is that collaboration and coordination can increase the supply and efficacy of the donations. Book Publication                  Gunjan Foundation published a book ‘Exploring Mind Pollution’ which was released by Lyrist Shri Javed Akhtar in the year of 2010. ‘Exploring Mind Pollution,’ a book dealing with the subject of how the mind of human beings has been contaminated was published by soliciting articles and messages from various personalities from India and abroad. The personalities include Dr. Karan Singh, H.H. Dalai Lama, Late Dr. L.M. Singhvi, Dr. S.Y. Quraishi, Dr. David Frawley, Justice R.C Lahoti, Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Prof. K.M. Lodha amongst others.  JAIPUR CHAPTER Aim - To provide scholarships to marginalized students for college/ advanced courses/ professional courses in Jaipur/Rajasthan headed by Ms. Preeti Mehta Background of the ProjectThe project rationale originated from the need to provide Scholarships to students for higher education. After having made major strides in the area of education for marginalized children we at Gunjan Foundation wanted to expand our horizons even more to be able to reach out to a larger number of students and to help alter their lives for the better. So, we decided that another way of reaching out to and helping more students would be by way of providing scholarships for professional courses to underprivileged students many of whom are unable to afford the fees and other charges of advanced and professional courses. Many children have dreams of careers in medicine or engineering but are unable to afford the steep monetary requirements of these courses. To enable such needy students to realize their dreams we have decided to start a Chapter of Gunjan Foundation in Jaipur with the sole intent of disbursing scholarships. Over the past five years we have already aided 4-5 students and helped them to complete their professional courses but now we want to do this on a larger scale. We have identified Rajasthan as the state where we would like to establish ourselves and would like to operate out of Jaipur as it is close to Delhi and commuting to and fro to manage things is quite simple.Program FindingsThere is a need for scholarships for higher education that will arm students and help them in securing good jobs as they are unable to cope with the finances on their own. Their home environment and parents are unable to help much with financial assistance.Project Management SectionThe Foundation has started a new chapter of Gunjan in Jaipur for Rajasthan students and in future we will expand this all over India.  Project Design and ImplementationTo provide scholarships for advanced education to the neediest students who have the desire to achieve but can't afford the expenses. We want to fulfil the dreams of such children. We have been providing scholarships for advanced education for the past five years.  The following students are being sponsored by us for higher education:1. In 2021, we sponsored Monika Kumari Meghwal in Rajasthan College of Engineering for Women for B.Tech and now sponsoring Manijar Mandal in ICFAI University, Jharkhand.2. We are also sponsoring the education of Sonakshi Meena, a medical student.3. Jaipur Board has selected 8 girls from Shalini Udyan Care run by Ms. Rukmani Haldia for providing them scholarships for courses such as B.Pharma, B.Ed., and BCA. The scholarship shall be given to deserving candidates from government schools. Out of this, the Jaipur Chapter is sponsoring 2 girls completely and rest of them partially.4. Also, providing a scholarship to Chanchal for an IIT course. However as of now, her admission is on provisional basis, as she has to undergo a four month bridge course and once she qualifies for the same then she will be granted admission in IIT regular.Equipped Library:A library was set up through P B Ranka Foundation in Devnarayan Girls Hostel. We provided curtains, chairs, led lights, books, tables etc.English &amp; Computer CoursesDuring the summer break, English speaking classes and computer training classes for 40 students were organized, with a certification from Rajasthan Government. These were supported by Xavier’s Alumni Association. Out of these 2 courses, Gunjan was paying for the English classes only. However, Ms. Preeti felt the need for 1 month of extra training for the English-speaking course where only 20 students could attend as rest of the students had to join their college. Apart from this, the Jaipur Chapter is also sponsoring 2 girls for Tally software course, so that they can develop new skills.Counselling and Personality Development We have provided counselling and personality development classes for Udyan Shalini students. These are being conducted by Ms. Harsha Rohit under the aegis of Gunjan Foundation. The classes and counselling both are doing well and there is a great demand for them.Together we can bring Gunjan to the life of the less fortunate, economically weaker and deprived sections of society.
