“What will happen to them after me? I am 80+. I spend sleepless nights,” worries ex-Air Force officer, Group Captain AC Barua while talking about the future of the 28 destitute women under his care. “They have nobody in this world, sometimes they don’t remember their own names. They are absolutely alone,” he informs us as he goes from one room to the other meeting all the women who live at Seneh, the only home where they are loved and taken care of. After fighting for his country all his life, this octogenarian is now fighting to rescue homeless and abandoned women from dying on the streets. But he cannot do it alone. “Everyday I keep on getting calls from here and there. ‘Oh! there’s a woman lying here. Can you help?’ But I don’t dare to go and help because I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources, our resources are very limited,” explains Gr. Capt. Barua who is lovingly called ‘Sir’ and ‘Deuta’ (father in Assamese) by the residents of Seneh. With your help, 80-year-old Group Captain Barua can fulfill his mission of rescuing abandoned and homeless women from dying on the streets, alone. Many times these are women with mental health conditions and considered being a witch due to superstitious beliefs and beaten up as a result. They are victims of domestic abuse or widow mothers who are considered to be a burden on the family. Group Captain Barua has not only rescued them from critical conditions, he has provided them with urgent medical care, food and above all, a free safe shelter where they can live with love and care. Among these residents is Sarala Kalita who fled to save herself from the tortures of her alcoholic husband only to face neglect and trauma from her brothers- and sisters-in-law. “Both my brothers and their wives urged my father to leave me somewhere as they didn’t want to take care of me anymore. One day my brother’s wife didn’t even let me have food at home. She just wanted me to leave and go away. So that’s why, my father got in touch with Seneh through someone, and handed me over to Sir to take care of me,” says Sarita who has found joy in living at Seneh. “Coming to Seneh, it felt like I got a new life altogether. Sir has given me a harmonium. I love singing. It makes me forget everything and takes me to someplace else entirely,” she adds. More women like Sarala can find their way to a loving home like Seneh. All they need is a little bit of your kindness. “It is difficult to make both ends meet”To sustain their daily expenditure, Capt Barua needs approx ₹3 lakh a month and arranging the funds is a mammoth challenge for the NGO. “Our expenses are growing day by day. Residents are growing older, their sicknesses are increasing. At times we have to give them special food. They require more care so we have to get more employees. About half of them require leading around, 1-2 has to be fed also. Like other regions in our country, Bundelkhand region is also affected by COVID-19 Pandemic as due to drought prone area usually many labours along with their family migrates from here and now they all have come-back because of that along with livelihood risk they are also at health risk and putting others too. Amid this pandemic of COVID-19, HARITIKA proposed its intervention for the most vulnerable communities who are more exposed to the repercussions of pandemic.The returnee migrants who have sufferred a great ordeal while returning back are facing aexisting lack of livelihoods which had earlier forced them to migrate. So we are proposing a holistic livelihood model which will mitigate climate change along with creating of jobs for returnee migrants.     
 Intervention StrategiesConnecting Migrants with Government SchemesPhase 1: Skill mapping of the returnee migrants We would like to focus on the strategy of Skill Mapping of the returnee migrants and submit an employment generation strategy to the District Administration to involve them in various livelihood activities which can be generated.Phase 2: #MGNREGA4Migrants CampaignWe are in partnership with the Madhya Pradesh and will initiate a special campaign for inclusion of returnee migrants in MGNREGA works.Sustainable Livelihoods creation:Phase 1: De Silting of Tanks We have identified 4 tanks and would conduct desilting of these tanks which will help in generation of labour mandays for migrant worker and also increase the water holding capacity of such bodies for the future. Each tank desiltation will help 1250 plus families and thus covering 5000 families directly. Phase 2: Promotion of Nutri GardenWe would support 500 migrants families to start nutri garden in their backyard using Zero Budget Natural Farming technique which will ensure the nutritional security of the returnee migrant familiesPhase 3: Plantation DriveWe would conduct plantation drive in the monsoon in the common lands which will help to generate employment for the migrants families and also promote climate adaptation by increasing the forestation in the parched lands in BundhelkhandPhase 4: Mobilizing from MGNREGAWe would create farm ponds, field bundings etc through MGNREGA Convergence and support the migrants families to get water resource for their farmlands. 
 Impact would be-         Awareness generation about different livelihood opportunities which exist to 5000 families mainly comprising of returnee migrants and marginal families-         Linkage with different government relief initiatives announced under COVID-19 relief package will lead disadvantaged people out of this crunch. The most affected and vulnerable have better access to advisory information and government scheme thereby enhancing chances to access benefits and entitlements-         Inclusion of women members of Migrant families in SHGs and with SRLM avail CIF to them for starting their farm/non-farm livelihood activities in all 60 villages.-         Inclusion of village level activities in SOP of MGNREGA will ensure availability of sufficient jobs in village for migrant unemployed labours &amp; environment conservation too in all 30 villages.

Entrapped in poverty, Bundelkhand region is one of the worst sufferers in terms of access to water, health and sanitation. Women and young girls bear the maximum brunt of lack of access to water and sanitation facilities. They are primarily responsible for the collection of water. Therefore, they suffer the majority of the drudgery and consequent health risks of collection from distant sources. They are also more likely to suffer health problems (such as Reproductive Tract Infections) and be put at risk from sexual violence (through increased vulnerability during open defecation), if sanitation hardware and hygiene behaviours are unsatisfactory. 
 Haritika aims to fill these gaps in service provision by providing water security to 10 of the poorer villages of Bijawar block of Madhya Pradesh. The activities we undertake include a range of options including: restoring existing hand pumps, building and extending pipe lines, protecting and constructing new tube wells, roof rainwater harvesting structures, and water sources for schools. We also promote hygiene promotion in these villages by creating the infrastructure for hand-washing at key times (after defecation, before eating or preparing food), safe disposal of human excreta, and storage and use of water in the house. We aim 6444 people to practise safe hygienic practices by the end of the project. Villages will be supported with construction of at least two compost pits and soak pits as demonstration models for communities to emulate. The local partners will be instrumental in assisting the communities to put these activities into practice. 
 Apart from substantially improving the living standards of the poor people, the project highlights the involvement of communities and disadvantaged groups, in development of their own water and sanitation situation which can give them a boost to tackle further development issues. Community-managed integrated water supply projects demonstrate what can be achieved in a fragile and degraded environment through actively involving communities in managing their natural resources. Much of the time saved in collecting water will be spent on other productive activities. Collection of water is one of the more repetitive, physically demanding and time-consuming tasks for women. Help enhance livelihood for the poor through sustainable agriculture

Bundelkhand region was once rich in resources, but is now identified as a region with low agro-productivity, lack of sustainable livelihood sources, encroached natural resources, low literacy rate, recurring drought and stagnant economic growth. Agriculture, the staple occupation of more than 80%of the people in the region has now decreased due to low yield, degrading soil, low aquifer level, low water retaining capacity due to rocky sub-strata. Sudden climatic variations have led to other dreadful consequences such as diseased livestock, lack of proper treatment, deterioration of health of people, degrading economy, frequent deaths, and droughts.Datia block of Datia District lacks even the basic soil fertility strata, thus its agri-based economy is subjected to low productivity and low income generation. The project thus identifies and enumerates possible sustainable measures for productive growth in the ChakRamsagar and Nichroli villages of Datia District ,Madhya Pradesh, India. 
 -	Natural resources management: establishment of Horti-Village•	To improve the productivity and sustainability of fruit and vegetable production systems that meet market demand. •	To develop new approaches to human capital development driven by technology-dependent economic opportunities, and entrepreneurship within the horticultural sector in proposed village. -	Agriculture and allied business support•	Training, workshop, exposure visits to ICAR institute, Jain irrigation, Syngenta, Monsanto, and Department of Horticulture for the capacity building of our project villages' farmers.•	Inviting the district administration, ICAR, KVK, Datia for the convergence of the programme.•	Mobile-based programmes: knowledge sharing amongst farmers, from use of insurance to boosting farm productivity to diversification of crops and varying income•	Increase human capacity to manage short and long term climate risk through crop demonstration in farmers' fields •	Soil Health Card for better nutrient management•	Participatory crop improvement programme•	OneAcre Venture helps people with controlling lifestyle diseases by ensuring access to the right kind of food products, prepared from locally cultivated crops, sourced from small farmers. We set up a system of demand-driven food production, processing and distribution and increased consumption through targeted consumer marketing and behavioural change programs will motivate the farmers without financial support.•	In rural production areas, a network of agri-entrepreneurs is setup to help the farmer with crop inputs and ICT based advisory for growing nutrient rich food crops. For aggregation and processing of the food crops, a network of nutri-entrepreneurs is setup in rural areas and in urban slums.But for a model vegetable farm, promotion of renewable energy resources, creation of model school, fruit orchard development, agriculture resource tool (vegetable cooperative for marketing), promoting biogas for clean energy for women who are using cow dung and fuel wood for cooking, we need funding support. 
 •	180 households, and approximately 2360 people will be benefitted- their economic conditions will improve, they will be able to use water more optimally, time spent in fetching water will reduce, diversion in livelihood will be prominent and resource availability will be ensured. •	A cadre of para-professionals will be developed to provide services and improve management of finances and budgeting plans•	INR 50000-/annum of additional income due to better agricultural output•	Food security to 108 families and knowledge dissemination to more than 2360 people of the treated villages as well as adjacent and near-by villages•	Monsoon harvesting and post-monsoon extraction will be secured so that extreme climatic conditions and acute drought may be avoided.•	More than 75% improvement in indigenous agricultural yield with the use of optimum farm implements and pesticides•	Health and water security•	Lower soil erosion and better irrigation facilities •	Two model school which will benefit 575 school children•	Better farm inputs like manure and better supporting structures like vermin composting•	Low carbon emissions due to solar energy based promotional equipment•	Better knowledge penetration due to crop demonstrations and exposure visits•	Awareness regarding technological advancements in irrigation and farming practices•	Water budgeting and use of agro-meteorology for withstanding climatic aberrations and vulnerabilities•	Awakened community and improved chances of further motivation and growth
