For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. In India,every 8 minutes, a woman dies during pregnancy & childbirth. Sadly these deaths are largely preventable as they are mainly due to poor access to health services along with the lack of hospitals to provide pregnancy care & safe delivery services at affordable prices. As a result, pregnant women from poor communities are deprived of basic tests, medicines &nutrition, putting their &their baby lives at risk. The state like Rajasthan has one of the highest maternal mortaility rate (318 maternal deaths per 1 lakh live births) as against 178 in the country. Even the infant mortality rate is very high (55 per 1000 live births). Thus, HLFPPT is working towards addressing this problem through its network of Hospitals called Merrygold Hospitals (MGHN) that leverages private healthcare facilities for providing quality & affordable maternal & child health services 
 In the state of Rajasthan HLFPPT has developed a MGHN social franchising network. This network offers high quality and affordable Maternal and Child health services including basic and comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (EmOC) as well as Family Planning services. Service package offered by MGHN is around 40-50% lower than the existing private hospitals. The network is spread in 21 high focus districts with 78 Merrygold hospitals;& a network of sustainable 1,940 Merrytarang members (Community Mobilizers). The pool of Meerytarang members is the driving force at the ground level in the project raising community awareness and facilitating the uptake of affordable adequate maternal & child care services by the poor community. 
 MGHN project will help prevent needless deaths of mothers by ensuring that at least 500 poor pregnant women are blessed with healthy babies. Given the key role that mothers play in the health of their families, the program will also contribute towards improving the overall quality of healthcare in the state-starting with one mother-baby pair at a time. This network of care further ensures affordability of quality services especially for the bottom of pyramid population.This also lessens the out of pocket expenditure burden on the poor families availing quality services. Further, the community based follow up mechanism strengthens project implementation through Merrytarang Members.

Support 500 poor women's safe pregnancy and delivery in Rajasthan

 This project will help prevent avoidable deaths of mothers by ensuring that at least 500 poor pregnant women are blessed with healthy babies. Given the key role that mothers play in the health of their families, the program will also contribute towards improving the overall quality of healthcare in the state-starting with one mother-baby pair at a time.

In India, Family Planning (FP) is hushed issue. Early marriage is common; thereafter young couples face family pressure to reproduce soon. Couples have no access to FP methods &amp; services in the remote villages of UP. In the absence of good counselling support either go for sterilization for incentive or have unsafe abortions. HLFPPT is striving to address problem through its network of hospital-MerryGold Hospitals where couple have access to whole range of FP products &amp; services with counselling support to make informed FP choice.The project will provide access to quality family planning products like- female sterilisation, male sterilisation, distribution of condoms, emergency contraceptive pills, IFC tablets, counselling and training services to over 500 young couples belonging to rural villages in Uttar Pradesh, India. This would enable them to take an informed decision to plan and space their pregnancies as per their choice.  HLFPPT has partnered with 300 private hospitals in state of Uttar Pradesh to provide complete package of quality affordable Family Planning (FP) services. These hospitals are more accessible for couples to access services. Service includes male &amp; female condoms; injectable, intrauterine device, male &amp; female sterilization etc coupled with counseling support. More than 1,000,000 women have availed FP services through HLFPPT hospitals. 
 This project will help prevent unwanted pregnancies and also needless deaths of mothers on account of unsafe abortions. It would help ensure that each baby born is welcomed and is healthy. Given the key role that family members and community plays in controlling family planning decisions of the couples, the program will also contribute towards creation of an enabling environment that promotes proper timing and spacing of pregnancies in the state-starting with one couple at a time.
