“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. Dear All, Pravalikha had applied for deferral in 2021, due to lack of funds, which was approved by NYU Tandon school of Engineering and they allowed her to join her academic session in August 2022. While she was preparing to go for her higher studies in Aug '22, she got a medical emergency due to disk prolapse and arthritis. She has been undergoing medical treatment since then. Although her health is improving, the progress has been very slow. She has been advised by the Doctors to not travel anywhere for 2 - 3 years until her health is fully recovered. Due to her current health condition, Pravalika has decided to take a break from her dream to study abroad and pursue it later when she is healthy. Diversity especially gender diversity has created a buzz in corporate sector. However, the companies are challenged when it comes to getting a pool of qualified women to select from.
