Meals & Grocery Support for Children & Seniors

There are currently more than 5 million disabled people in the India, In India, 2.21 % of people out of the total population are disabled. Disabled communities, elderly populations, and people with chronic health conditions are the worst hit by Covid19. Government had not thought of PWDs before imposing lockdown. Ever since the lockdown was announced on March 24, disabled people have been struggling to perform even the daily chores. There is huge numbers of the individuals who have no source to even buy their medicines essential for their living. As most of the PWDs are largely dependent on the caregivers. Due to lockdown and Coronavirus, their caregivers are not ready to help them. PwD’ support system has stopped suddenly. Nobody has thought about how these people are managing their life in this pandemic. Covid Crisis has left the Disabled people most deprived human beings today and also most neglected. The PwD are vulnerable because of loss of jobs and with no funds to survive! Further there are many barriers they face like attitudinal, physical, and financial. Especially no helpers’ support only to worse the situation. There is an immediate need to raise the support for the such individuals and sole earners, who have responsibilities towards their family members. 
 HWCT's inclusive and Integrated Program is to enable every child and individual with disability to exercise their right through access to appropriate and mainstream digital access and skill building for better career. The approach will be to adapt best practices to reach out to children and individuals with disability and give them the pathway for better opportunities helping them to become independent and earn with dignity. An integrated camp over PAN Maharashtra to conduct the sessions catering the needs of the PwDS and enabling them with the array of opportunities with counselling sessions guiding them to create pathway to better employment opportunities.

Empowering the Lives of Differently-abled to help them survive the times of such Distress

Education is easy for all children in Maharashtra and many receive little or no education. One of HWCT aims is to help make schooling available to as many children as possible, enabling them to fulfill their potential goals and in turn, help their communities to become sustainable.We are developing links between children, staff and parents in local Schools in Mumbai and Rural Maharashtra, providing support for teachers and children. Our ambition is to help forge direct, long-term links between schools and foster to generating opportunities in the Rural Areas.Our enthusiasm and support for Rajtalati Rural School was initiated by the determined approach we received from the principle Mr. Sanjay Chawan. He invited us to visit the school where he also heads as one of the school faculty. he had established the school for a group of children he had found sheltering under a mango tree. We were captivated by his energy and ability to get things done. Rajtalati School is one of the 22 schools, where HWCT works in hand to hand with its volunteers and supporters to ensure that the schools remains operational for the children.  
 Working with the local community and with support from various donors, we obtained quotations, financed, and enabled the installation of lights, fans, gas connection – a small step that has led to big changes for the school and, of course, the students. The Fan and Lights &amp; Gas with Stove arrangements mean that twice as many children are now receiving education and the Gas connection has helped the school staff to use gas instead of cooking food by burning wood. This has helped school saving time and reducing the pollution due to smoke. The nutritional guidance to the school and parents also help children have nourished food giving nourishment for their bodies as well as their minds. In April 2019 there was a role call of 188 children and 11 teaching staff, which has shown the increase of 28% in the number compared to past year.There is more to be done, there is requirement of the water filter, re-building of the washrooms and repairs to the dilapidated building to keep operational during the monsoons. Recently, repairs for two classrooms were completed with community support, to expand the school in order to accommodate additional students. 
 Shortage of money is a perennial problem for Rural Schools and HWCT has provided funding to kick start with the children’s basic educations. HWCT’S support to the school has proved it can rise to the task of supporting the children of its community and now wants to take the next step to be recognized by the authorities and become the Digital School at par with the other schoolsIn a world of inequality where poverty, disease and homelessness are the norm for so many, HWCT INDIA aims to help orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) and their communities to create sustainable conditions in which they can flourish and where communities can learn to support themselves. Working with project partners on the ground in Rural Maharashtra, our activities focus on the areas of Digitalization, Education, Health and Nutrition.HWCT aims to bring change to the Rural areas by generating the opportunities for children who wish to pursue their education and help them decide their caireer to bring a sustanable change and dignity to their life, creating further opportunities and set an example in their local communities to follow the goals to prosperity.

Enabling Vulnerable Children to Flourish

Undernourishment in India has become a severe issue that demands sincere <a href="https://www.downtoearth.org.in/blog/health/acute-malnutrition-worsened-among-children-nfhs-5-74987" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">measures. India’s child undernutrition rates are still one of the most alarming in the world. The Global Hunger Index (2020) — which is calculated on the basis of total</a> undernourishment of the population, child stunting, wasting and child mortality — places India at the 94th spot among 107 countries. Among the 472 million children (2011 census), a whopping 97 million are anemic and undernourished. Delhi slums are highly populated urban residential areas consisting mostly of closely packed, decrepit housing units in a situation of deteriorated or incomplete infrastructure, inhabited primarily by impoverished persons. Income inequality is high, some people barely make two meals in a day and some spend freely on junk food as well. One thing common between most households is the problem of undernutrition in children.Undernutrition in India is a severe issue. India has the maximum number of undernourished children in the world- 1 in every 3 children are undernourished. In order to understand and assess the problem better, we conducted various surveys in Azadpur to ascertain the children’s BMI, analyze their dietary pattern, and familiarize ourselves with their junk and packed food consumption behavior. Having conducted a BMI test for over 100 children in the slum, we observed that about 80% of the slum children were underweight, while less than 15% could be classified as normal. 
 Project Poshan (Joint Project by HWCT and Enactus Khalsa) aims to abate undernutrition among underprivileged children. Our Project caters to the nutritional needs of impoverished children. To provide a nutritional supplement to the children of the age group 4 to 10, we produced a low cost healthy multigrain snack in consultation with many pediatricians, nutritionists,and food technology faculty. Our vision is to provide a ready to eat highly nutritious snack to underprivileged children at an economic cost to tackle undernutrition. Through our project, we aim to spread awareness regarding nutrition. We also intend to proselytize equality and provide economic sustenance to the women community. In consultation with the institute of home economics, department of food science,  Lady Irwin College, DU, and Shaheed Rajguru college of applied science for women, we formulated an extremely low-cost healthy snack that would aid the fight against undernourishment in impoverished areas of Delhi.It shall comprise various multigrain flours such as wheat, Ragi, Jowar, soya, and peanut that would furnish the dietary needs which are indispensable to these children living in such deprived areas. 
 The project shall not only save precious lives by helping the children to keep up with their Nutrition levels and also keeping aliments at bay but this will also provide financial stability and a sense of self dependency to the women entrepreneurs, we would recruit underprivileged women for our community. They will also act as a medium to provide chips to children and expand our program to other parts of India too.Making use of a highly sustainable production and packaging framework, we aim to create a zero plastic model, helping us reduce waste generation by up to 69% in a year.We strongly believes in the strength of social entrepreneurial actions to create sustainable solutions and curb the prevalent tribulations among underprivileged sections. Malnutrition is rooted deeply, and our reach should be proportionate. Hence through our judicious approach, we are certain to defenestrate the problem of undernourishment in our target communities through our healthy multi-grain snack. Our product ensures to meet the prerequisite nutritional needs of the children, therefore extending proper growth. In order to propagate these objectives, we look forward to your assistance and support for a successful implementation of the project.
