For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. COVID-19 assistance at the frontline to vulnerable communities

HAI is working on the Techno-Humanitarian space to ensure use of technology to find efficient solutions during humanitarian crisis. COVID-19 pandemic is the biggest humanitarian crisis in the history of the mankind today, and access to oxygen has become the greatest need for India. Although, the Government of India has definitely taken concrete steps to procure oxygen generators to cater to the shortage of oxygen in the country, the needs are growing and urgent. HAI is determined to contribute towards to this massive crisis situation and has already begun its groundwork. We are bringing together the best of talents, individual and institutions of the country, to come up with an affordable and efficient solution to confront the oxygen shortage. The objective of this new initiative is to provide uninterrupted medical-grade oxygen to mid-sized hospitals in semi-urban and Rural-Indian setups. We intend to reach the masses by setting up 1000 generators at multiple locations throughout the country. Currently, we have about 10 generators and looking to acquire 990 more. Looking at the severity of the situation, we need to act fast.
