“The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. HCHW is a registered, secular non-profit organization dedicated to the cause of improving the lives of the poor and downtrodden. Established on 2nd October, 1990 by Dr. Mohammed Rafiuddin (a young qualified and trained social work professional) to support children deprived of education and the joys of childhood, HCHW has evolved into a vibrant organization that addresses a gamut of issues including child rights, education, health, HIV/AIDS, skill building, livelihood, etc. The organization operates across the states of Telangana through its wide network.HCHW attempts at empowering individuals, families and communities by building their resilience to cope up with their situations and live a dignified life enjoying their rights and entitlements. The majority of children are from families where both parents are on daily wage with no guarantee of work for the whole of the year. Indeed this is the major factor affecting their overall living standards. Almost half of the families fall under below poverty line while majority of them do not earn basic minimum wages. A vast majority of (almost 98%) families are illiterates and these children are the first generation to attend school. They are living in extreme poor housing and sanitary conditions and lag far behind in terms of household possessions and social entitlements.The life of children is much more horrible in case they are pushed for labour by their parents or if the children run away from home and start living on their own on streets. The children are also exposed to the risk of human trafficking for the purpose of labour and other reasons. The children and their families are affected by extreme poverty and lack of consistency in income. Thus, we are addressing the overall issues of child rights focusing specifically upon education, health and protection issues. 
 It is believed that engaging and imparting education to children is the best option to address the issues of protection, well-being and safeguarding their rights. We believe that education is the non-negotiable right of every child. Education is in fact the only ladder for the growth and prosperity of human beings. It is also one of the best mechanisms to ensure the protection of children while the parents are at work during the day time. As a result a beginning was made in July 2013 with the launch of our full-fledged school offering free education to poor and neglected children. We have at present 387 children studying in classes LKG to VI standard. In order to welcome the new academic year, we will give a Welcome to the new and present students in terms of providing books, bags, stationary, uniforms and shoes. 
 The plant that was seeded in the year 2013 seems to be growing better with fruitful results.•	The day school has successfully completed four academic years in terms of providing quality education to poor and neglected children along with books, bags, stationary, uniforms and transport facility.•	The mobilization team successfully reached out to the maximum needy children and for the academic year, (2017-2018) 215 children got enrolled in our school and we are expecting to enroll more than 200 students during this academic year.•	The strength of the school during the academic year 2017-2018 is 387.•	Amazing results were seen in the last academic year where 40% of the students secured above 80 percent.

Welcome Campaign

There has been a complete upheaval in the world order as a result of the Pandemic. The new normal was once not at all normal. The pandemic has compelled everyone to accept this new order as normal. While the pandemic had brought to halt the day to day functioning of all thus bringing the world to a total standstill, some of the consequences have been really gruesome.Covid has caused many individuals to lose their health, wealth and loved ones. The survival of families who have lost their earning member have become a major challenge. The worst affected are the women and children. With regard to children, continuation of their education is at stake. 
 We wish to support the education of these covid affected children. Support for the cost of education would include payment of tuition &amp; other fees of each (who lost her/ his father due to covid) child directly to the school. Additionally, the purchase of books, uniform (once a year), note books &amp; stationery as and when required will be carried out. An estimated INR 2500 per month per child is estimated for this purpose.Children covered under this project will be attending different schools and as such may differ in terms of fee, books requirement, curriculum etc. Hence, we may be spending more money on one child and less on another. Though on an average we have estimated ₹ 2500 per child, the expenses will be taken on an actual basis only irrespective of whether the actual expenditure on each child is more or less than the estimated money. 
 Through this project, we hope that covid affected children will continue their education and avoid hardships such as getting engaged into labour, being trafficked etc. The project will support the cost of education till they complete basic education up to 10th standard. Also the elder siblings or any other suitable relative of these children will be linked to the existing skill building programs of HCHW. Hence, we hope to empower the child as well as his/her family through education.

Support Covid Affected Children

Education, which is a key growth driver for the betterment of society, despite its importance, remains inaccessible to a lot of children owing to a lot of factors. This issue stems from the lack of proper wages and unpredictability of the parent’s jobs and their low-income is further extenuating the situation. The long lasting consequences of these barriers are far reaching and devastating. Children who lack education are more likely to experience poverty, poor health, and limited opportunities in adulthood. They may also be more susceptible to exploitation and abuse, and less likely to participate in civic life. And hence, we are targeting to implement projects that help educate children and pave the way towards their future. 
 We implemented several initiatives and now hold a small fraction of underprivileged children who wish to improve their life and reach their goals. Around 400 children are currently part of DMR school, an initiative under our NGO which aims to transform underprivileged students' lives by providing them with free education. Under this initiative, donors will be able to contribute towards providing a child with free education and all the basic necessities like books, uniforms and transportation by donating only Rs 9000 per annum. Currently, we provide education to the aforementioned number of children ranging from LKG to Xth, and we also include Skill Building Centre where the children can equip themselves with skills that could help them seek suitable placement. In conclusion, we hope to expand our reach by incorporating STEM education into the curriculum and improve children's ability to overcome the barriers that are prohibiting them from reaching their dreams. 
 Our aim with this project is to ensure that disadvantaged children can complete their education and avoid negative outcomes such as early labor, begging, and trafficking. We will cover the cost of their education until they reach the 10th standard and aim to empower these children by providing them with a quality education to shape a better future.
