I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Various cities across India, especially metropolis face a difficult situation where many financially deprived kids living in slums are deprived of education. They either can't afford a basic quality education or drop out of school because of financial pressure. Many children are pushed into professional begging and rag-picking. Similarly, women coming from slums do not have either employment opportunities or essential skills to earn a livelihood to support their families. Even though their financial situation is tough, they are helpless. Our project serves the populous slum neighborhood of Noida especially Sarfabad with a total population of 11,078 which comprises 5000 women. 
 Indian Centre for Development and Rights comes up with the project 'Ashraya' emphasizing child protection, systematic education, and women empowerment. This Project is to minimize the dropouts from schools, help them connect to mainstream education through creative learning, aid their education by providing them scholarships and make education a fun learning experience. Ashraya empowers women through skill training and livelihood generation making them self-dependent and providing counseling. We strive forward to put a strong impact on the localities of the project making them financially independent and improving their overall economics setting up a standard for quality education and fanning their talents and skills, making them follow their passion, and helping them monetize their skills through various activities. We extend support to young lads and kids through regular academic classes, art, and crafts, music and dance, spoken English, value education, computer training, and various other ways of innovative learning. Our women empowerment plan includes health and sanitation awareness, basic education, providing Training and certificated courses on Stitching, knitting, makeup, parlor training, etc, and helping them set up small businesses of Dhupa Bati, Pickle Papad, Madhubani painting, handicrafts, etc.

Help Educate Slum Kids and Support the Livelihood of Poor Women in Sharfabad, Noida

With almost 73 million people living in extreme poverty, a large section of the Indian demography has taken a huge toll in the wake of Covid-19. The repercussions of the invisible enemy (COVID -19) have led them to turn their sweat into blood for a loaf of bread. It has hit the lower sections of the society, thus pushing them towards poverty. With each passing day, thousands of people are succumbing to hunger and the rest are scavenging for food. The lockdown and the on-going pandemic has posed a question in front of us, Is it possible to feed millions of people. As the India comes out of lockdown due to COVID19, livelihoods of a large number of families in India that survive on daily wages have been affected deeply. In last few days we have seen that many migrants have lost their battle of life due to hunger while travelling. Apart from these, due to lockdown, most of the families are unable to procure the essential goods required, majorly because their direct source of income has been compromised. A long lockdown can turn into a nightmare for a daily wage labourer. 
 To alleviate the plight of these people, We have been working continuously for their benefits by organising distribution drives of essential ration items and Masks across many cities. As of now, iCFDR has distributed food items to the poor in Delhi, Dehradun, Itanagar, Bareilly, Badaun, Pune, Salem, Lucknow, and Jaipur. We have been able to impact over 6000 people positively. In the coming days, more and more distribution drives are being planned, to help the maximum number of people. Icfdr is also helping a community of 580 stranded garbage workers in Gurugram to send them their hometown Assam safely.Furthermore, We plan on distributing face shields to all the disadvantaged children and the elderly to ensure that just because they are poor and they do not lose out on ways to protect themselves.We at ICFDR, urge to provide relief to even more cities by raising resources and grants from the empathetic and charitable humans. We wish to help the great proportion of the country who are solely dependent on daily wages for their livelihood. We plan to spread across several miles to help them with food and health care kits. 
 iCFDR has stepped onto a journey to be a light to the ones in despair. It has targeted the daily wage workers, low-income families, farmers, underprivileged, and all those whose means of income and livelihood has been threatened by COVID-19. These folks are not only running out of food but also do not have the provision of health kits and other basic necessities. So far, We have distributed essential food items to the marginalised with the service of door-step delivery. iCFDR is on its toes, round the clock to provide help to the ones seeking it. It has equipped a large number of people with full-fledged facts about Coronavirus and the preventive measures that need to be adopted with the help of its ongoing COVID-19 Awareness Campaign. In addition, we have conducted mass distribution of sanitary masks, detergents, ration kits, and health kits in the villages of Dehradun, Delhi, Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Salem, Chennai, Badaun, Rampur, and Itanagar. It is currently running the COVID-19 relief work campaign and has listed down a bunch of activities for the near future. We have successfully benefited over 6000 families by providing ration kits and 7000/- masks.

Dry Ration For Daily Wagers Hit By Coronavirus

Easy Classes is a project of iCFDR aimed at mentoring children living in the slums of Delhi. Life in slums is hard, lack of basic amenities, temporary roof, financially struggling parents, lack of school, unhygienic conditions, these children have limited access to hope. iCFDR brings learning to their doorsteps to ensure these children don’t lose hope of a better future. Easy Classes positively impact the life of these kids by guiding them to think big creatively.Easy Classes are regular fun cum learning activities sessions for these young children at impressionable age. A session includes full immersion with the children including storytelling, helping them with homework, and activity based learning. Our team of associates conducts these informal sessions of teaching, playing games, craft etc. The objectives of the project include academic learning, life skills coaching, counselling, and monitoring progress. 
 The structure of the Easy Classes sessions is fluid but focussed. We operate in the very location where these kids live. We not only engage with them but through them with their families as well. By making them realize they have a chance to build a well-rounded personality, motivate them to explore their potential and guide them to turn around their life. These Classes help kids boost their confidence and empower them to work hard to break the vicious circle of daily struggle. Easy Classes is also covered up for lack of proper parenting in economically backward slums in Delhi. In the long term, the Easy Classes might not only change the lives of these children but also the future of the families and the community.The target areas for the Easy Classes are micro slums in Delhi. We work towards the holistic development of the children and not just rote learning so that they become successful upright human beings. Easy Classes develops an emotional connection with each child, each one has his or her own story. This is for them to dream, light up their eyes and make them smile bright. This all is an effort to make sure that dreams never die out. 
 The NGO with its team of associates and volunteers is currently conducting these learning sessions in two slums of South Delhi. In near future we plan to extend to 10 more similar slum locations in New Delhi. However, Easy Classes are also operational in two other cities, Dehradun and Bareilly.The key takeaway for associates, volunteers and supporters, beyond building empathy and happiness which comes out of giving, is also to take ownership of the community and contribute effortlessly for a better society.
