And the worst affected are the children who grow up in red-light areas and are subjected to constant abuse and violence. “The sight of a 12-year-old girl being gang-raped by a group of men near a house l haunts me to this date. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. He has further supported over 20,000 children with a better life.Sadly, Of the 250 the children rescued from abuse and exploitation, around 70 of them are HIV positive. Gradually more and more mothers started coming to me and asked me to take their children away, even if it was just for a couple of hours,” he further adds.The work that Girish started in his youth gradually grew to become a movement, with many more joining his cause. The COVID 19 pandemic has created economic hardship across the globe. The most affected sector comprises of the poor daily wage earners like Coolies and railway helpers whose livelihood has been hampered due to the crisis, resulting in starvation in their families. With the restriction in movement of people and also operation of long-distance trains across the country, the Coolies and railway helpers, whose livelihood depended on carrying luggage at railway stations have been greatly affected. The profession being of the unskilled category, the Coolies and railway helpers have limited opportunity to earn a living by engaging themselves with any other work. The objective of this project is to ensure food is provided to the poor needy Coolies and railway helpers to help them tide over this crisis period and prevent starvation. Dry Ration Kits are provided to the beneficiaries so that they can overcome the economic hardship to sustain themselves and their families. 
 <ul><li>Dry Ration kit comprising of 10 kg Rice, 10 Kg Atta, 2 kg Dal, 1 kg salt, 2 kg Cooking Oil, 2 Kg Sugar and spices shall be provided to Coolies and railway helpers across India. This will help the Coolies, railway helpers, and their families ( of 4 people) to sustain for two weeks providing on an average 28 meals per kit.</li><li>Dry Ration kit comprising of 5 kg Rice, 5 Kg Atta, 1kg Dal, 1 kg salt, 1 kg Cooking Oil, 1 Kg Sugar and spices shall be provided to Coolies and railway helpers across India. This will help the Coolies, railway helpers, and their families ( of 4 people) to sustain for one week providing on an average 14 meals per kit.</li></ul> 
 The Dry Ration kits shall not only help the Coolies and their families fight starvation and sustain themselves during these crisis times, but the initiative shall also help the Coolies and railway workers to use the limited resources on other essential expenses for the family-like medical bills and children's education. With the basic food requirement being taken care of, the Coolies and workers can focus on continuing the education of their children who otherwise might have dropped off from school due to non-affordability issues and moved to child labour, etc.
