19 of every 100 Indian children are out of school and 70% of those enrolled drop out before reaching secondary school. For a country with 193 million children of school age, these numbers mean that a large amount of uneducated children will never feel the benefit of India’s economic growth. Most of these children leave school simply because their parents cannot afford to send them to school or are forced to send them to work to make ends meet. 
 We have built a learning centre called 'Dreams Learning Centre' (DLC). It offers non-formal education to out-of-school children from urban and rural slums and other backward communities.We survey the area around the centre to collect data on the exact number of children not attending school living there. Once we have the name, age, and other specifics of the children, we make home visits to understand these children’s backgrounds and encourage their parents to enrol them into DLC.We hold classes from 8am to 12 noon every day. A systematic teaching curriculum has been designed which is religiously followed by the volunteers/trainers here. 
 We have completed the groundwork and started engaging with children and their parents. It costs us Rs. 6,200 to complete the survey, organise non-formal classes, and enrol each identified child into formal schools. With every contribution you make, we will be closer to our goal of educating 1000 out-of-school children by the end of this year.

Educate slum children at learning centres

Almost 48 million people in India are willing to work but are unemployed, mainly due to the absence of employable skills and technical knowledge. The public education system is not only failing to keep pace with surging demand, but is often of poor quality. This has led to fears that much of the young workforce will not gain the skills needed to power the economy and the country will have an army of young people trailing behind. 
 We are working to provide such training to disadvantaged youths to help them find gainful employment. Our vocational training programme, Nayi Pahal meaning ‘new initiative’, is located at Agra in Uttar Pradesh.During our three month course, trainees are taught skills such as, handicraft making, embroidery and jute work, aiding them in their search for employment. Our students also receive training in basic English, health and hygiene, and human rights. 
 All donations will fuel this project to help 50 women learn skills that will enable them to find and start a rewarding job or become self-employed.
