“They insert a candle in the vagina, fingers are inserted (in the vagina) and tortured, and if children don’t relent even then, they put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Adolescence is an age of opportunity for children, and a pivotal time for us to build on their development in the first decades of life, to help them navigate risks and vulnerabilities, and to set them on the path to fulfilling their potential. The well-being and active participation of adolescents are fundamental to the effectiveness of life cycle approach that can break exclusion and discrimination. Adolescents need the opportunity to assert themselves, express themselves, to flourish. Therefore, 253 million adolescents, which are about 22% of overall population, in India present a unique opportunity for a healthy and strong future; however, they receive far less attention in our policies and planning than their numbers merit. Parents, family member, communities and policy planners must bear the responsibility to promote and protect their development and Adolescents, face a number of challenges, including early marriage and childbearing, low knowledge and high risks for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV, anaemia, violence and substance abuse, and lack of education. 
 Advancing Girl’s Rights with a focus on resource poor and vulnerable girls those affected by disruption of education, protection health services &amp; livelihood etc. and already at risk or victims, with information and resources to prevent them from falling victim to trafficking &amp; child marriage  and other GBV (Gender Based Violence)-Empowering 250+ adolescent girls through applying L 4 R (Leadership for Result) Training module &amp; 3E (Encourage-Empower and Engage) Principle  and imparting knowledge, life skills, information so they develop agency and are better prepared to challenge the gender norms and violence.- Creating second line of 60 leaders and peer mentor model where the older girls co facilitate identification, development and follow up of younger girls.-Using Sports and Culture as tools to promote gender equity- Facilitate Digital Learning for 100+ girls-Case Management services ( Rescue, Restoration; Reintegration and Quality Institutional Care and Support)

ADVANCING GIRLS' RIGHTS

The key drivers (Poverty, Gender inequality, Unemployment) for Trafficking; Child marriages and lack of health and hygiene had unprecedented rise during Covid-19, additionally, movement restrictions and multiple barriers (language, technology etc.) and reduced response services (helplines, police &amp;, legal services) have increased vulnerability amongst individuals and communities who were already at risk and those who were previously not. Without sufficient access to social security systems &amp; institutional supports, they are less equipped to navigate these challenges. 
 Jabala Action Research Organisation wishes to support the beneficiaries and their families as they respond to and recover from the Covid-19 crisis. As the situation on the ground is changing rapidly, we are seeking support to carry on relief operations among the beneficiaries in the following areas with a primary goal to ensure the adolescent and young women are not adversely affected by this pandemicThe Proposed initiative intends to build up on the progress so far achieved and lesson learnt from previous efforts to spread it among other girls, survivors and community members in newer areas to increase the gamut of Relief measures and awareness on protection; and sync it with the multisectoral linkage buildings. 
 Strengthening Direct Service assistance to identified 1000 adolescents girls, Survivors of violence that includes, food, health and hygiene etc.Increased efforts on menstrual hygiene awareness and maximise reach of sanitary napkins amongst 1000 girls in the target areas. Facilitate access to education and reduction of drop outs among 500 adolescent girls

COVID-19 RESPONSE

The Current shelter home of Jabala cannot is lacking in many ways and many of the services like trainings; functional literacy etc. cannot nbe done in a manner that is needed. Hence a shelter home is needed to prove quality care and support to the violence survivors 
 Construct a shelter home with a capacity to accommodate 100 violence survivors equipped with all modern facilities so that qualitycare and support can be made available for residents during their stay at the shelter home 
 -Good infrastructure will provide quality shelter and care for violence victims who are already traumatized from their experience.-Added services like demand oriented trainings can be imparted under one roof
