Today's Challenge                     <ul><li>The challenge faced by India in creating enough employment opportunities for its young population is a significant concern. </li><li>India which needs to create 10-15 million jobs per year for the next decade to provide gainful employment to its young population. Accelerating entrepreneurship and business creation is crucial to creating these jobs.</li><li>Interestingly while data and mobile penetration is at 76% the purposeful utilization of these data is only 26% . Jagriti Yara is an attempt to inspire the youth of India for purposeful engagement in their life by developing a case for finding their purpose.</li></ul>Why Jagriti Yatra ?<ul><li>Jagriti Yatra believes every individual has the right to think about economic prosperity and this opportunity should be available to each one through equity.</li><li>Yatra is a platform for the youth of India to find the scope of economic equity and to be motivated to find their purpose in life. The right of entrepreneurship is a catalyst to achieve the right to economic prosperity. </li><li>To state our case, we believe that India is pyramid not top-driven or bottoms up. 800 M Indians live in 240 Tier 2 and Tier 3 districts of India approximately 300 M are literate youth literate having a roof over their head, 3 meals a day but without a sense of purpose.</li></ul>Jagriti's goal is to motivate young Indians who reside in the middle of the Indian Demographic Diamond to lead development by engaging in enterprise. This will initiate a national movement of "Building India through Enterprise " through its three pillars1) Jagriti Ambassador for District Entrepreneurship (JADE) ,2) Jagriti Enterprise Center (JEC)3) Jagriti Yatra (JY)Jagriti Yatra (JY) seeks to bring the physical geography and the real soul of India closer to its people by exploring Bharat (Middle India). Disaster Relief

The second wave of the COVID has hit the country badly. The healthcare infrastructure is crumbling under the increasing number of active cases and fatalities. The crisis has gone beyond the metro cities of India, and reached rural India, which are not equipped to handle a crisis of such mammoth severity. The main issues in rural India are that of awareness and education among the masses on preventive measures; lack of initial medical consultation support and adequate medical supply; and finally hesitancy among the local population to vaccinate themselves owing to the prevalent myths. And while the current crisis stands tall, the issue is also to build a long-term health infrastructure in rural India to meet the future problems, including the third wave of COVID. 
 Jagriti has designed following four strands to address the COVID crisis in Deoria and Kushinagar districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. During the first wave of COVID as well we focused on providing ration relief to the migrant workers across these two districts.Strand 1: Aarogya Saathi·       Activate our channel of 60 digitally trained women and equip them with necessary knowledge and resources on COVID appropriate behaviours (CAB)·       Build awareness in the local communities using communication channels like Whatsapp and by making callsStrand 2: Rahat Vitran·       Distribute wellness and sanitation kit consisting of OTC Medicines, Immunity booster, mask, and sanitizers among 4000 families·       Supply 100 oxymeters in the needed families through our on-ground volunteersStrand 3: DigiSwasthya·       Create a telemedicine service program by setting up centres in the two districts·       Set up a helpdesk for local people to call and get first line of support·       Offer teleconsultation with our national network of doctor volunteers·       Support with medicine supplyStrand 4: Vaccine Registration·       Create messages to dispel the myths about vaccine and encourage people to register·       Deploy Aarogya Saathis to spread information on the vaccine·       Work with the local administration to facilitate smooth registration vaccine portals like CoWin 
 We will be covering five blocks of Deoria and Kushinagar districts. We are targeting 20,000 (4000 Families)  The intended impact is:·       Creating awareness about and emphasizing the need for people to continue to follow COVID Appropriate Behaviors (CAB) including wearing masks even aftervaccination·       Issuing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Home Care Services·       Alleviating social stigma and discrimination against COVID-19 patients and their families through large scale and targeted communication strategies.·       Supporting the State Governments and District Administration in filling the gaps in the routine delivery of public health services.·       Coverage of approximately 2600 Gram Panchayats using 60 Aarogya Saathis and 10 Project Coordinators and distributing wellness kits to 4000 families·       Providing medical teleconsultation to the needy families·       Cover 2.6 Lakhs+ people for vaccine registration

Situation AssessmentThe COVID crisis has led to nationwide distress due to immediate challenges with the delivery of healthcare services, and due to the loss of jobs and livelihoods of vulnerable communities, especially returning migrant laborers, impacting their dependent families.In the context of eastern Uttar Pradesh, where Jagriti is working, the distress is pronounced because of high influx of the migrant labourers, who have lost their jobs in other states. Their dependent family members, especially women, who were employed with local informal enterprises, are also losing their livelihoods because of the slow collapse of these enterprises.The local district administration so far is focused on providing immediate relief in the form of food and ration to the vulnerable communities, and ensuring lockdown and social distancing is followed. The Govt has announced to transfer INR 1000-5000 to construction workers, and additionally, the State Govt is supporting the informal sector laborers with INR 1000. Beneficiaries Identification Target – 2000 families impacted by COVID Approach: 1. Jagriti is creating a list of 50 Gram Panchayats (GPs) in the Deoria district where Jagriti has a strong connection with the Gram Pradhan.2. Within these 50 GPs, the target is to identify 40-50 families that are adversely impacted by the COVID crisis. The families of migrant workers and daily wage workers will be given preference.3. Jagriti has already been distributing ration/food kits among the needy families (around 170 families covered). We will include these families under this program. 
 Response Action (Healthcare &amp; Food) – 1.     Distribution of ration / hygiene kits for 15 days, which includes 6 masks, 5 hand soaps, 2 kg potato, 2 kg onion, 5 kg flour, 5 kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1-litre mustard oil, 1 kg sugar, and spices<ul><li>   Direct distribution of the kits through our volunteers</li><li> Ensuring that the families get the kits from the Gram Pradhaan as per the direction of the Government. Currently the families are getting the ration kit for 1 month</li></ul>2.     Supporting the families with the documentation and opening of bank accounts so that they received these benefits3.     Ensuring Govt entitlements reach to the 2000 families<ul><li> Current packages for COVID like financial aid to the construction workers, food grains, etc.</li><li> Other schemes for BPL families like Ujjawala</li><li> Schemes for Women like Jan DhanYojna, Credit to Self-Help groups</li><li>Fund release for pending wages under MGNREGA</li><li>Benefits to farmers under PM KisanYojna</li></ul>4.     Creating a database of migrant workers so as to support those who decide to stay back with different livelihood options<ul><li>  Mapping the migrant workers geographically</li><li> Listing down livelihood opportunities and relevant government schemes</li><li> Bringing other stakeholders on board like NBFCs, Banks, etc.</li><li>  Support to the livelihood enterprises in form of market and mentorship</li></ul>

Purpose and Employment are the two biggest challenge of T2 or T3 districtsCovid has impacted the economy of the country and there is need to relook at education,skilling,health with specific focus on women as enablersEntrepreneurship has become the urgent need of the day due to Social and Economic fall out post COVID Crisis.<ul><li>An expected drop of 10 - 15 % in National GDP can push millions into poverty, mostly in small towns and districts </li><li>Need for self employment as migrants have also gone back to their regions – particularly in the north and east over 10 million workers, 30% expected to stay back.</li><li>More investment required to trigger innovation in Health,Digital, local urbanization and to promote enterprise related to handicrafts, apparel vocal for local</li><li>Focus on agriculture, agro-processing and MSME which together support over 60% of country’s employment</li><li>Particular focus on women led development relevant for the T2 and T3 districts including apparel and handicrafts and empowering through mentorship and market support.</li></ul> Our Aim is to mobilize the middle of India Diamond whom we consider as Citizen Builders from Voter and Consumer to Builder from Enablement ( Charity Driven) to Enterprise Creation 
 Jagriti aims to inspire Young Indians living in the Middle of the Indian Demographic Diamond to lead development by taking to  enterprise, creating a national movement of “Building India  through Enterprise”. Jagriti has a three-pillar approach to building entrepreneurship ecosystems in Tier 2/3 districts. Initiatives<ol><li>Jagriti Yatra - A 13-year old 15-day, 8000-km entrepreneurship train journey program, Jagriti Yatra, has created a community of 5700+ youth across India, 28% of them turning into entrepreneurs.</li><li>Jagriti Ambassador for District Entrepreneurship (JADE) – A district-level outreach program to promote entrepreneurship through interventions like business-plan competition, workshops and seminars. 100+ districts have been targeted through this program.</li><li>Jagriti Enterprise Centre  - A regional incubation program to support local entrepreneurs through mentorship, market access and funds. Currently the focus is on Deoria and nearby districts. Recently we have been awarded the Atal Innovation Community center project for Uttar Pradesh. The objective of this program to create and support 200 regional entrepreneurs in next 5 years.</li></ol> 
 510 participants (Yatris) irrespective of demography will join together to understand middle Indiain in this experiential learning where they will get an opportunity to meet the real life renowned delegates and business models in the field of entrepreneurship and venture on their insights and thought process gained through the experience.This unique entrepreneurial journey experience impacts the various attributes of personality and social behaviours of the participants resulting in a immediate and significantchange in the mindsets of the yatris. Jagriti Yatra - Building India through Enterprise

COVID-19 has resulted in reverse migration of 1 million migrant workers to their home districts in Uttar Pradesh after losing their jobs in cities. An estimate says that 40% of them are not planning to return to their informal and contractual jobs in cities. So, firstly, they are looking for immediate cash so that their families survive through the next 2-3 months, and then for long-term livelihood opportunities so that they don't have to migrate again to cities.The key challenges are:<ol><li>For immediate cash, the Govt. entitlements and schemes are the best sources. The information and know-how to access these entitlements, however, are not easily accessible for these migrant workers.</li><li>The fear and stress among the migrant workers and other vulnerable community members are at all-time high. Counseling support for these workers and their families is need of hour.</li><li>The COVID crisis has negatively impacted the local businesses and work opportunities, which could have absorbed the incoming migrant workers. So, new opportunities need to be identified and created in the region by understanding the skills and assets of the migrant workers.</li></ol>Jagriti is working in eastern Uttar Pradesh region on the above challenges. 
 Jagriti has designed following actions:    Social Protection:<ul><li>Collecting information about different Govt entitlements relevant to the migrant workers. Jagriti has listed 20 such entitlements and schemes.</li><li>Spreading awareness about these entitlements and schemes in local community</li><li>Helping migrant workers with basic documentation and application</li><li>Setting up a call centre for information on Govt entitlements</li><li>Liaising with Govt offices - at village, district, and state level - for the activation of the entitlements</li></ul>Psycho Social Support:<ul><li>Selecting and training counsellors from local community, and equipping them with IEC (Information, Communication and Awareness) material</li><li>Providing counselling and psycho-social support to stressed persons through our barefoot counselors</li></ul>Livelihood Opportunities:<ul><li>Understanding current skills, assets and interests of migrant workers through a survey</li><li>Creating a repository of possible livelihood opportunities with details information and know-how. Examples include poultry, goat rearing, dairy, and handicraft</li><li>Helping them access finance through Govt schemes or NBFCs</li><li>Studying existing value chains, mostly in agriculture, and helping the migrant workers integrate in these value chains by becoming producers</li></ul>

India is at the cusp of the largest social change in its entire history. With 1.3 billion mouths to feed and another 12 million being added every year, it has the colossal task of balancing growth with supporting its population in a productive manner. With 58% of its population living in smaller towns and villages, there is an ever-increasing migration to major cities like Delhi and Mumbai threatening the resource limits therein.The next 15 years are crucial. With 100 million jobs required and the young population peaking in 30 years, conventional job growth has failed to bail us out. This is the time to Build India through Enterprise. 
 Jagriti Enterprise Centre - Purvanchal (JEC-P) is an incubation/innovation centre for entrepreneurs in eastern Uttar Pradesh with objective of creating local jobs and livelihoods. The Centre provides mentorship, market access and funding to the emerging entrepreneurs. Since 2017, we have incubated 35+ enterprises which have collectively created 1000+ jobs and livelihoods in the region. Set up over a 6-acre campus, the Centre will bring world-class facilities like co-working spaces, high-speed internet, office rooms, digital library, training and conference spaces, a guest house for incoming mentors, and a public park.Construction started on 15th January 2021. The first block, the incubation bay, will be functional by early 2022. 
 In the next 10 years, Jagriti Enterprise Centre - Purvanchal (JECP) envisage to achieve the following impact <ul><li>3500 incubated enterprises; 40,000 enterprises supported through mentorship and outreach</li><li>1.5 Lakh local jobs created</li><li>2000+ cr revenue added through the incubated enterprise in the local economy; revenue shared with the beneficiaries at the bottom of the pyramid</li><li>370 cr+ investment through grant, debt and equity in the local enterprises</li><li>25 million people - farmers, youth, women, etc. - indirectly impacted in 7 districts</li></ul>

Jagriti Enterprise Center

Jagriti is a non-profit with the objective of building an entrepreneurship ecosystem in Tier 2 &amp; 3 districts of India. It started as a skill training institute in Eastern UP in 2001, impacting 65,000 beneficiaries in the region so far. In 2008, it started an initiative called Jagriti Yatra – a 15-day national entrepreneurship train journey program – which has impacted 5,500+ youth so far; 28% of them turning into entrepreneurs. Since 2018, it is simultaneously focusing on Eastern Uttar Pradesh to build an ecosystem to support micro-enterprises, livelihood programs, and SMEs. It has implemented a digital literacy training program, called Internet Saathi supported by Tata Trusts and Google, for 1.7 million rural women across 7 districts, 10000+ villages, and supported 7 micros/small enterprises that have collectively generated 500 jobs in the geography.
