“A blind child is seen as a curse or as a burden to the family. These children are left on the street. I have picked up children from roadsides myself. I also lost my eyesight as a child but today I am a senior officer in a public sector company. I never wanted anyone to feel like they were a burden to their families,” Anil shares.These children may be teenagers, but their mental age is that of a young child. They struggle with simple tasks—holding a spoon or even expressing when they need to use the washroom. The dedicated staff at Jeevan work patiently to teach them basic life skills, helping them become more independent.For 32 years, Anil Singh has been a ray of hope for disabled and orphaned children around the coal mines of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. When their own families gave up on them, Anil and his team stepped in, offering not just education and medical care, but the love and support these children deserve.A deep desire to change the lives of these underprivileged children inspired him to start this organizationWhen no one understood the struggles of the specially-abled, Anil knew he had to make a difference. He pursued a Diploma in Mental Retardation, and over the years he met parents who had nowhere to turn for help. Many of these parents, underprivileged and unaware, would leave their children on their own, without any support.
