I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Keshava Kripa Samvardhana Samiti (KKSS) is registered with Indian Government NITI Aayog in the NGO-Darpan platform. One of the main projects is Abhyudaya which came into being in 2004 as a project under Keshava Kripa Samvardhana Samiti (KKSS) as a Non-government organization (NGO). Starting out as a free tuition center with 12 students, currently, Abhyudaya reaches out to more than 3,600 students, spread across remote villages and slum clusters of Bengaluru through life skills, value-based education, and healthcare-related activities. Socially deprived children, their families, and the neighborhood become the focus group of Abhyudaya activities as education has to be imparted holistically. Corona Lockdown has affected the livelihood of many people. Several people have lost jobs. There are certain sections of society particularly from socially and economically deprived backgrounds who may find it very difficult to cope up with loss of employment. 
 Abhyudaya project, 'Keshava Kripa Samvardhana Samiti' is planning to support needy families by giving them simple items which can help them to be self employed. These items include push cart, sewing machine, cycle rickshaw, petty shop, carpentry tool set, plumbing tool set. 
 People from lower income groups can earn their livelihood and survive.

Livelihood support post Covid19 lockdown

The second wave of COVID has adversely impacted the financial conditions of some families due to the loss of the primary bread-earner. Children and their education is affected and they are forced to dropout of school/college. Keshava Kripa Samvardhana Samiti is working pan India to prevent such children from dropping-out by bearing the cost of their books and education. A contribution of ₹1,000 will pay for one child's books for a whole year.Many young married Earning members lost their lives due to covid wave 2. This created a huge income gap in the families . Many people have already lost livelihood due to covid and above this when a family member died due to covid it created lot of financial problems. Many families could not afford to pay the fees of their children particularly those going to colleges. 
 Provide financial support to the students to pay the fees who lost one of their parents due to covid. 
 This will prevent the students from becoming a drop out.

Support Education of Students who Lost Parents due to COVID

ConcernThe main cause of poverty is the lack of access to proper education among deprived. During childhood they are not able to study well. Most of them drop out of studies as parents are uneducated and also cannot afford to teach the children. Living conditions around the neighborhood exacerbate the problem. Anti-social elements are also a major contributing factor for such bad living conditions. A child born in slum goes to a nearby small school, does not get proper coaching, doesn't do well in studies and they are deprived of opportunities hence don't get the requisite skills required for official jobs. They end up in unorganized sectors doing menial jobs and the circle continues for the further generations. Because of low erratic salaries they end up again settling in a slum. It can be seen that there is a sustained poverty cycle.     
 Abhyudaya is currently reaching out to about 3,600 socially deprived children through more than 80 Kalika Kendras (Free Learning Centre – FLCs) spread around Bengaluru. The Activities at these FLCs in the respective localities are overseen by 105 local teachers and about 25 mentors. Primary and high school children, the majority of whom are from Government schools are engaged for two hours daily at these FLCs after school hours with a view to keep them off the streets. During these hours, the teachers help the children with their homework assignments and aid them to attain the expected academic level for their respective grades. Periodic assignments are done for the kids and their progress is discussed with their respective school teachers and parents. In addition to the academic activities, children are encouraged/coached to participate in quiz competitions, sports and cultural activities. Counselling sessions are held on personal hygiene and community health for children as well as their parents. Periodic workshops are held to inculcate values, ethics and social responsibilities. Educational and recreational tours are also conducted. The teachers from these FLCs are regularly upgraded in terms of course content, teaching methodologies and interpersonal skills through monthly workshops. Periodic assessments are conducted to evaluate teachers’ progress as well.  
 Abhyudaya free learning centre has broken this poverty cycle with the help of education. We have convinced illiterate parents of slum kids about the importance of education for their children. With the effort and intervention of Abhyudaya thousands of next-generation were saved from entering into the poverty cycle. They got into good jobs which secured and assured them a quality living. Their purchase power improved. Abhyudaya has directly benefited 30000 people in past 16 years by Improving the Economical position and Quality of life of many families living in the slums. Abhyudaya has produced many engineers, doctors, lawyers, Government officers, school teachers, businessmen who are today leading a good quality life. We have worked for eradicating poverty, education of slum children and has immensely contributed to the economic growth and well being of the society.
