KIRAN literally means ‘ray of light’. It is a center for differently-able children and youngsters. Founded in September 1990 by a small group of people from various social, cultural and religious backgrounds, it has continued to work based on the idea of togetherness, enriching everyone’s talent and abilities.In 1998, KIRAN Society shifted from the city Varanasi to Madhopur, a village near to the famous Sultankeshwar Temple located about 12 kms south of B.H.U. (Banares Hindu University). Today the KIRAN Centre functions as a small village where children and youngster with different abilities receive education, skills and vocational training and physical rehabilitation and where Inclusiveness is giving happiness to all.Most of the children and youngsters we work with are suffering from the consequences of polio, cerebral palsy, rickets or hearing impairments. They have the potential to lead normal lives, if only we can reach them somehow. Unfortunately many such children suffer the fate of being hidden and kept at their homes and getting no access to education or rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation of children with disabilities through corrective surgery, assertive devices, physical therapy and education through inclusive method. Presently 450 disabled and non disabled children are getting education at KIRAN inclusive school. We are serving more than 9000 disabled children through our different services like education, rehabilitation, vocational and skill training etc. There parents are also getting a chance to learn basic things about handling their special need children. 
 KIRAN is a nonprofit making society for the holistic rehabilitation of children and youngsters with disabilities and other marginalized group registered under the Society Act. KIRAN’s mission is to support the parents of differently abled children with quality-service, so that their child gets empowered as much as possible in a holistic way for an all-round healthy life as adult and to share the know-how and experience with persons and organizations who wish to do the same kind of service. 
 More than thousand disabled and nondisabled children will attain school. Needy disabled children will operate to walk properly with different mobility devices.

To promotes skill development for students who are unable to continue down the path of mainstream education by providing training of 2 years in wood workshop (carpentry &amp; IQ toys), tailoring, horticulture &amp; organic farming, arts &amp; design or bakery and food preservation. There is also a program called “Saksham Grihini” that offers basic education and training to young women from rural areas, who did not have the opportunity to finish or follow an education, to be prepared for their role as women and wives by learning household chores and practical life issues (child care, cooking, sewing, health, security and their rights as women).1. Many of our trainees are from rural areas, a population that depends on agriculture and is vulnerable to rural disasters (drought, flooding, locust invasion, etc.), therefore the quantity of their food is uncertain and they do not consume a diversified diet;2. Women and girls are the most affected by food shortages. According to traditional Indian customs, women eat after the men, so they usually eat less and eat the leftovers that do not contain the necessary nutrients. In Uttar Pradesh, about 50 percent of women suffer from iron deficiency, which can lead to extreme fatigue, shortness of breath and the incapacity to complete the training;3. People with disabilities must have proper food to take medication to avoid side effects and to metabolize the medicine effectively.In order to avoid disparities among the trainees and to offer equal opportunities to complete their training, providing meals is a necessary. 
 Improving the working conditions and the health of the vocational trainees, in the long term, by providing nutritious food for lunch at the nearby canteen of Kiran Society.
