Vanitha has also been taking care of abandoned HIV-infected and mentally challenged kids. It had seven children. She promised the mother that she would take care of the baby. “The baby hardly had any strength. She used to be called ‘insect’ by the people in the neighbourhood. The doctor said that she might not survive beyond a month. But she did for over a year, under my care. I named her Shakthi,” recalls Vanitha.Sharanalayam has come a long way since that time, with hundreds of children being taken care of by the NGO in the last two decades. Human trafficking in India is a horrifying crisis. Thousands of victims, primarily women and girl children, are exploited in red-light areas. Over 10,659 cases were reported between 2018-2022, but experts say that these numbers are likely a fraction of the reality due to underreporting, yet they still do expose the magnitude of the crisis. Girls make up 71.4% of missing children in India and a large number of these girls end up at red-light areas. Sex trafficking is particularly gruesome, with girls as young as 12 sold for as little as a few thousand rupees.

Law Power Association is registered under the Society Act and Works on the issue of Child Sexual Abuse, Bonded Labour and Child LabourChild Sexual Abuse (Child Rape) &amp; Sex Trafficking: We are currently supporting over 100 children who are victims of rape and rape with murder. We need funds for their legal battles in court, safe and secure travel for victims and witnesses, ration for victims' families, rehabilitation of these victims, as well as medical assistance for issues arising from the rape, such as medical help for serious injuries and support for victims who have delivered children as a result of rape. We also provide counselling and sometimes economic support during the case, as families often lose their source of income due to the circumstances. More than 200 cases are still pending in court, and we are committed to supporting these cases.Child Labour &amp; Human Trafficking: We are working on the rescue and rehabilitation of child Labourers and victims of human trafficking throughout India. We rescue child Labourers from hazardous industries and rehabilitate them with their families while assisting them in their studies and helping them access government compensation under various laws.Bonded Labour: We also support victims of bonded Labour in India, where we help release individuals trapped in various industries, including agriculture, brick kilns, factories, and dairy farms. These workers are sometimes bound by chains, economically bonded, or physically constrained. Upon receiving their complaints, we file their grievances and respond immediately, working with district administration and the police department to rescue them. After their rescue, we initiated the rehabilitation process under the Bonded Labour Rehabilitation Schemes.
