Women Empowerment

Due to Covid Roti &amp; Rojgar ( Food and Livelihood) of marginalized community is impacted very badly. The source of income has become very irregular  &amp; their income barely meets their basic needs as majority are laborers/unskilled workers. The idea of Developing Small entrepreneurs as a doable option as livelihood creation to help with family income. This project aims to positively impact lives of families in the Kolkata area by providing them with Small business fund or Capital to start community businesses. Literacy India`s project Karigari has helped over 300 community members to become entrepreneurs in the last one year with the help of various donors. Pandemic time has created the urgency for many more specially who have lost their jobs in factories, hotels or in the market. It was found that self-businesses like vegetable thela, snack shop, masala vendor, boutiques and small stitching units continued to do business despite the situation.COLLABORATION between Literacy India and Women Leaders Network (WLN)Literacy India &amp; WLN are collaborating together for this fundraiser.Women Leaders Network, WLN, is a network of women achievers and leaders with 10 plus years of work experience in organizations like Dell, HDFC Bank, Boeing, Amazon, Pepsico, Java Capital, Kadam India, 9.9 Media, Vedica Scholars Programme for Women, Tata Sky, Social Venture Partners, and many more. They have gained education from diverse institutes like Wharton, ISB, IIMs, Yale, IITs, NITs, Cambridge University, TISS, Delhi University, Jadavpur University, Uttar Pradesh Technical University,etc.One of the stated objectives of Women Leaders Network is to help grass-root social impact organizations like Literacy India, working for women empowerment causes. The members of WLN help them in their fundraising efforts and also volunteer their time to help them as per the needs of the organizations in marketing, operations, finance and human capital development . The goal is to amplify and scale the commendable work being done by the social impact organizations. Women achievers and leaders lending a supporting hand to underprivileged women will lead to a more equitable society.  Literacy India will start selection, training , formation and active involvement of Women group  as per community need business intervention. Post FGD, each women will be assigned task to submit idea then with our intervention it will be started.The support will help them to start their own business, conduct financial literacy, enterprise management workshops and help them finding livelihood in their own community.   
  The project will provide training, create awareness among  women  entrepreneurs about the employment market situation and entrepreneurship opportunities. Literacy India wants to help them sustain specially during this pandemic times. It will motivate the job seekers to take-up self-employment ventures. The project will also assist them to obtain the necessary inputs required for setting self-employment ventures from different sources and help them with settlement. The project Roti &amp; Rojgar will help spur the growth of social enterprises and thus create more jobs and offer more livelihood opportunities to help enhance income of households.

Education

The Gurukul Project evolves from the need of the children who are meritorious and have potential but cannot access mainstream formal education due to lack of money and opportunities. It is a support to students for pursuing higher education. Literacy India is organizing support for education at public schools &amp; various colleges for job oriented professional courses by meeting the entire cost of the children's education. Under this project, Literacy India also supports students who wish to pursue higher education and have the potential to take it forward. 400+ students across Delhi NCR, Rajasthan, Telangana, Karnataka and West Bengal are studying under this project. 
 •	Help children streamline into schools and provide regular activities in the academic courses in West Bengal•	Meeting with teachers/School principals in the schools for children update of half yearly examination •	Regular field visits in the community to meet with parents and children •	Remedial classes after school hours for weak students•	Regular school visits by Literacy India Project Coordinators•	Attending parent-teachers' meetings to understand the progress of the students •	Attending school’s meetings for performance feedback of the children•	Report card collection for terminal, half-yearly and final exams•	Regular advocacy with government schools so that books and other facilities can be provided to the students 
 •	Students are continuing with their schooling.•	Students appeared for their half-yearly and annual examinations.•	Students participated in various school level sports and other co-curricular activities. •	Students passed and promoted, qualified for final examination •	Extracurricular activities to develop different skills.•	Reduced the rate of gender discrimination.•	Behaviours of children have improved and their confidence level has shot up.•	Students are not only encouraged to be engaged in formal school education but also to develop vocational skills.

GURUKUL

Literacy India conducts community surveys and mobilizes visits to reach out to children who are roaming in the community, who do not have a valid ID proof for enrolment in a school, who are school drop outs, who have migrated in mid-session and children who are out of school.	We try to enrol all students in the communities we serve and give priority to:•	Children from backward castes, specially SC/ST/ BPL•	Children with family income of below Rs.15000/-•	Children staying in difficult circumstances, migrant and specially the offspring of single parent•	Girl child is forever our focus When we came across children of age 10 years and above who do not know how to read and write, we had to create an academic module which would help bridge the gap in learning for these children of lost years. 
 •	Ours is an inclusive approach to education embedded in the larger social economic context of where our children come from. Classroom learning is but a small part of this school life. Our inputs extend beyond the regular curriculum as our staff works relentlessly with children and parents to support and enrich their daily lives with opportunity, value and meaning in work.•	Literacy India has accreditation of OBE / NOIS under which children appear for various Board exams. •	Vidyapeeth academicians hugely believe in “Learning by Doing” - a project-based learning approach.•	Vidyapeeth has special classes of mixed age groups of children who are behind their age appropriate level of learning and who are taught through Literacy India’s software “Gyantantra Digital Dost”, a bridge program to mainstream them into regular classes.•	Mid-day meals / health facilities are provided to undernourished children especially girls.•	Value education and life skills training have been the highlight for Vidyapeeth students. Significant changes and impact has been seen through the value education program of the school.•	Vidyapeeth, while following the National Open School syllabus, has championed implementing “prevocational training” for children above Class-V in fields of mobile repair maintenance, hardware, stitching, beauty and spa, kitchen gardening, cooking, and bakery. 
 Here are 1150 children enrolled in the school which is open for children throughout the year•	Performances for each child are regularly assessed.•	Students attend school regularly and have a sustained interest to attend school.•	We attempt for above average results for more than 70% children.•	Children show improved confidence and ability to communicate with articulation.•	There is increase in the no. of students opting for higher studies.•	There is increase in the no. of students participating in pre-vocational courses. Vocational training exposes students to career options and allows them to explore their area of interest and possibility.•	Parents are engaged to participate in their children’s overall progress.•	Quality of education is forever evolving and teacher`s orientation and tools for learning are supported in every way.•	Children take part in sports competition at the national, state and district level. Vidyapeeth has a football team which has girls in large numbers and a Martial Arts team, both of which are winning trophies.•	Theatre is offered as an integral part of the program offering regular theatre workshops.•	Career counselling allows children who have graduated to get placed in various corporate jobs. •	Children have appeared in and passed the AIEEE entrance examination for engineering.•	Gyantantra Udbhav ( Digital Dost ) technology integrating teaching tool aligned with regular academic curriculum for building foundation and accelerating learning ability
