The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. There is a lack of quality preliminary and primary school education for the children living in the urban slums of Gurgaon. These children need a tailor-made curriculum to get them at par with mainstream children. They also need additional nutritional supplements ( not available in the regular diet at home) to ensure proper cognitive development. In the absence of such intervention at the primary level, the children are unable to cope with the education process of 12-16 years and eventually drop out. 
 To address the above concern, Lotus Petal Foundation is running a primary school from Nursery to Grade 5 for the children living in the urban slums of Gurgaon. We provide nutritious meals fortified with DHA / other supplements , education, healthcare, psychological counselling to these children. The curriculum is tailored to the needs of the these children. Presently, the school has 229 students from Nursery to Grade V. 
 The children living in the urban slums shall be able to compete with mainstream students at the end of primary education and shall be ready for secondary school education. We have observed an improvement in their learning capabilities of these children.

COVID-19 and the imposed lockdowns have impacted children in multiple ways. While learning losses have been common to many children, specially those who are devoid of resources or means to continue education, many families have also lost their livelihood making it difficult for households to survive without nutritious meals. In ₹1,166 a month, or ₹14,000 a year you can sponsor the expenses for one child and provide some relief to their families. The pandemic has impacted the school children on every front. The more we read about the educational impact, the more we read about “learning loss” as one of the greatest challenges for the academic year. And this is true across the globe not just in India. Earning members have lost jobs and getting healthy nutritious food is a challenge too. 
 During the lockdown, Lotus Petal transformed into an Online platform for providing education and skill development; re-purposed the school kitchen to a Community Kitchen ; supported its beneficiaries in getting back to their livelihood through our job portal Bluekhoj.com. Post the second wave, all our programs are fully operational including community feeding program as on date having crossed 0.5 Million meals served free as on date.Further as part of our COVID response to the second wave we undertook a free vaccination camp at multiple sites in Gurgaon to delver 10 K Vac shots within a fortnight.  
 The children living in the urban slums shall be able to compete with mainstream students at the end of primary education and shall be ready for secondary school education because no interruption in their schooling has occurred. And through healthy meals we have observed an improvement in the learning capabilities of these children. By providing the vaccines, we have ensured that the families also stay safe.
