Help Disabled Children with Shelter & Care

For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Dr. Bhagat prioritizes the health of the seniors and ensures that they receive three balanced meals a day based on their precise health requirements. Need for the fundraiserThe humanitarian mission of SHEOWS is making an impact in the area, as more and more people are being rescued and brought to Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. To meet the financial costs of running the home, SHEOWS needs support to continue providing the residents with all the facilities that they need. This includes constant care and round-the-clock medical attention, nutritious food and maintaining a hygienic environment to keep the seniors in comfort and good health. “We received a distress call saying that a blind girl is being held captive by a woman and is being forced to beg. Our volunteers were able to rescue that girl and bring her to the Blind Welfare Society home for girls. We cared for her and educated her. Today that girl is a senior government official”, says Asha Bhola, President, Blind Welfare Society (BWS) as she recalls how her organisation has been able to transform lives.BWS has been a ray of hope for 40 such blind girls, many of whom have been abandoned by their families owing to their visual impairment. Sadly, the care, shelter and education for blind girls come at a cost, and BWS is unable to keep its work going. The early years of a child’s life are very important. Specially 0 to 3 years age needs extreme attention .However Some of the children and families face special challenges due to intellectual, developmental or physical disability and need extra help.The Early Intervention Program is a need based program that provides different types of early intervention services to infants and children with disabilities and their families. These services are designed to identify and meet children’s needs in five developmental areas. These are physical, cognitive, communication, social or emotional development, sensory and adaptive development..Benefits to society include reducing economic burden through a decreased need for special education.It has been observed that many of children with disability or special needs require early intervention services but do not get access to the services due to various factors Our team has also found that most of the people are ignorant about identification of eligible children for Early intervention .The project will aim to render the services for the poor and needy who can not access the services. 
 Early Intervention Services are provided by the Madhya Pradesh Viklang Sahayata Samiti through its Early Intervention Center . Following services are provided by MPVSS : <ol><li>·        Early identification of infants at risk</li><li>·        Identification of children up to 12 year who need early intervention services </li><li>·        Early identification of developmental delays</li><li>·        Identification needs of pertaining to assistive devices</li><li>·        Acquisition of new behavior/skills</li><li>·        Increase in independent functioning</li><li>·        Early detection and prevention of secondary handicaps</li><li>·        Minimizing the effects of the handicapping condition</li><li>·        Cost effectiveness</li><li>·       Psycho social support to families</li></ol> 
 Hundreds of children the Ujjain city are receiving benefit through Early Intervention Centre , there by reducing the risk to the child. . Those who could not visit center CBR workers provide home based services .
