Leprosy currently affects approximately a quarter of a million people throughout the world, with majority of these cases being reported from India. In India, has most of the lepers belong to families with poor financial state. Once diagnosed with leprosy, patients face the long and uphill task of recovering and reintegrating into their community. Due to their health issues, the lepers cannot move around much in order to get required medical treatment. More than 1000 leprosy affected people need medical care every month in different locations in Madurai district, and we are trying to provide for the same. 
 We are targeting to help out poor, uncared for lepers, and we go to their doorsteps with our medical team. They are getting free medicines, ulcer care and dressing from our NGO. We are providing financial support to the leprosy deformed people through income generating activities like milking cows, sheep and goats, petty shops, tea shops, etc. 
 More than a thousand leprosy affected people are getting cured. Our NGO is trying its best to prevent cases of deformity by providing medical support to the lepers. Due to the financial support that we have been providing, 70 leprosy deformed persons have stopped beggary. In the district of Madurai, our Mahelerecen NGO is playing a big role in helping out the leprosy affected. Every month, 195 leprosy deformed persons receive free medical support through our NGO.

Medical care for the leprosy affected deserving community

Most of the leprosy patients are beggars on the roads, railway stations, bus stands and temples etc. <ul><li>Stigma and discrimination in leprosy</li></ul>Since ancient times, society has stigmatised people affected by leprosy. There is a strong feeling in the society that being infected with leprosy is shameful, and because of this, patients, even after they are cured, are not accepted in the society.Even today, when leprosy is curable, the age-old stigma attached to it has not been cured. Stigma is a reality in the lives of the people affected by leprosy, and this hampers their physical, psychological, social and economic well-being.Lack of knowledge and information, age-old beliefs, fear and shame, have resulted in the stigma of leprosy. Stigma in leprosy leads to irrational behavior towards people affected by the disease. It is hurtful, and leads to discriminatory practices.<ul><li>Social discrimination</li></ul>The stigma attached to leprosy is so acute that persons affected by the disease, in many cases, are forced to leave their homes and live in isolated colonies. Even those who live within society are often excluded from participating in the mainstream society.The stigma and discrimination extends to the family as well. Members are treated in a different way and are not allowed to participate in the society. So, many families reject the person affected with leprosy out of fear of social exclusion, thus leaving them without family, home and social support networks. 
 Leprosy deformed patients are living in different locations of the rural areas of Madurai district. Our NGO covers the following 6 blocks. Madurai city, Thiruparankundram block, Alanganallour block, Melakkal block, Alagerkovil block, Karupayurani block, each block has 25-30 villages. Leprosy patients spread the different locations.<ul><li>We want to identify 30 needy leprosy deformed patients for our livelihood programme, (based on health condition, family members support and their willingness)</li><li>What programme they (leprosy patient) can be included in? Leprosy patients, for example, can be engaged in goat farming for sale, or cows for milk business. They can own petty shops and tea stalls, etc.</li><li>We wish to provide financial support to them through the livelihood rehabilitation programme, based on their health and condition, where they are living, and family member support. The project will support Rs 20,000/- per beneficiary.</li><li>We agree to sending picture and beneficiary documents towards reporting and our activities will be shared on social media</li></ul>

In India, the quality treatment is not possible to all people – 1339 million people. Government and WHO try to solve the health and raise the infrastructure every year, but it is not enough compare tot the growing population. The leprosy community people with disability is challenging to get good treatment in the government hospitals with large crowed.So like our Leprosy Centers and NGOs try to give pity support for these types disserving leprosy community people.Organization participation:- 	Our Madurai Health and leprosy Relief Centre – doing leprosy eradication and rehabilitation services since 1991 in the area of Madurai and Dindigul districts, India. From 2016 our leprosy center joint with Velammal Medical College – conducting the free medical camps and hospital care for the leprosy disabled people.  a)     Madurai Health and leprosy Relief Centre.b)     Velammal Medical College Hospital and Research Institute. So the following charges we need to pay to hospital.   	 a.      Blood Sugar test –Rs 30b.     Blood basic tests- Rs 200c.      Antibiotic Injections –Rs 100 (few days)d.     X Ray= Rs 200e.     E.C.G = Rs200f.       Physiotherapy Rs = 300 (weekly once)g.      Physiotherapy – Heat therapy (IR etc)- Rs200 (daily)h.     Cataract Eye surgery =Rs 6500 (if Required) 	So approximately needs are from Rs3000 to Rs 10,000- required for one patients, cost is vary case to case, Velammal Hospital allotted 20 beds for the leprosy patients.  	Bed facility, Doctor care, Nursing care and food supported by hospital as the free of cost other than some chargeable treatment and diagnostics need to pay as concessional rate. So it is required to do good and qualified treatment to all the economically poor leprosy patients living in India.   
 1.      All the leprosy patients will get quality treatment and get new life.2.      Those who unfortunately have developed wounds and ulcers in foot / hands on account of leprosy (normally due to late detection) require proper treatment and continuous health care to prevent deterioration and prevent damage to the limbs. The aim is to overcome the stigma associated with leprosy disability and deformity. 3.      Physiotherapy and peer group self-care season for correction of disability and deformity to enable the patient involvement in care of hands and feet. 4.      Leprosy patients will get the happy life and get respect in the same society of their family members and neighbors.
