The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, no healthcare, no education, there was absolutely nothing”, says Bipin Dhane founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Owing to his childhood experiences Bipin was always inclined towards helping the less fortunate, and he believed in the transformative power of education. I had no money to start the school. It was then that villagers came together to build bamboo huts. Each family donated bamboo, wood, and whatever little they could. Life in the slums of Mumbai has changed drastically since the pandemic. In the process of safeguarding themselves against the virus by staying inside of their small houses, many children have discontinued formal education. Magician Foundation India has been reaching these children with remedial learning methods and supporting them with aids like digital devices and study material. In ₹2,000 you can contribute to their initiative of supporting 500 children during these trying times. <ul><li>Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 calls to ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’.</li><li>Education is a key factor for achieving sustainable development globally, and many other developmental indicators like poverty, hunger, climate action, water, sanitation, women’s empowerment, rights of children, are dependent and closely interlinked to achieving the goal of education for all. This SDG sets target for all children, girls and boys, to have access to free, equitable and quality education at primary and secondary levels, leading to effective learning outcomes. According to UNICEF, approximately one in five children do not have access to schooling globally</li><li>The key issue controlling this statistic continues to be poverty, where children from poorer backgrounds are five times less likely to be in school than their richer peers.</li><li>Literacy rate in India is 64.8%, with that for males being 75.3% and for females being 53.7%. This large gap is evident to show the gender bias that is still existing in communities across the country, which holds back a significant number of our girl children to be out of school. Enrolment of children in schools in India has been above 96% since 2010. (ASER, 2018). However, schooling system is crippled by lack of quality education, due to which children are unable to achieve foundational skills in literacy and mathematics at the desired age and grade. Additionally, high rates of dropouts in the secondary education level, with less than half of the 16-year-old children completing 10th standard.</li><li>Literacy rates within the state of Maharashtra, although higher than the national figure, continue to show the gender gap. A study conducted in 2018 by Child Rights &amp; You (CRY) across the state of Maharashtra reveals the poor infrastructure and lack of human resources in the schooling system across the state.</li><li>Mumbai city and its suburbs are densely populated with communities that have migrated from various parts of the country and from within the state. Lower income communities are inhabitants of the numerous slum pockets across the city and the suburbs.</li></ul>Effect of Pandemic <ul><li>With the start of pandemic the life in slums have changed drastically in every aspect of the residents' lives. </li><li>The matchstick houses for the family of 5 to 8 members became a wrestling cells for everyone. </li><li>The halt on schools for children was a drastic block on their continuing education. </li><li>The youth were in zap about their career as the pandemic has taken away so many qualified jobs so the daily wage earners were in question about their coming future. </li><li>The pandemic has resulted in severe increase in domestic violence in the slums and criminal activities which is leading to several ripples effects for the ones who wish to live a easy life.</li></ul> 
 <ul><li>Enhancing learning outcomes of children to become self-sustainable by ensuring their access to various educational, sports and income earning opportunities.</li><li>To prevent dropouts and ensure children from vulnerable low-income communities living in slum and settlements in South Mumbai continue their education </li><li>To engage 500 children in an effective digital programme on life skills and value-based education.</li></ul>During Pandemic Magician Foundation engaged the children in the following ways <ul><li>Due to non availability of technical devices the online education as per government norms was a question and hence MFI decided to procure tablets and computers and fill the gaps in formal school education. </li><li>Through its centre the children and youth were engage in pockets to learn and grow.</li><li>The school curriculum was taught as remedial teaching by the staffs to mitigate the gap </li><li>The staff risked their lives in sensitising the community on how the parents can support children by lending their phones for children's education. </li><li>Home visit were intense by staff to sensitive the community about effects of domestic violence</li></ul> 
 To enhance the lives in pandemic MFI wish to deliver yearly essential kit to the 500 families of the community to make their life better.<ul><li>500 vulnerable children will be identified for participation in the project</li><li>Yearly plan of the project is designed and documented</li><li>50 children studying in 6th to 10th standard from the community will receive mobile phones that will enable them to attend classes in school</li><li>500 children receive digital content of life skills and value education </li><li>500 children receive awareness on different life skills, values, health &amp; hygiene, adolescent and menstrual hygiene issues, etc.</li><li>Parents are engaged and informed about the progress of children, thereby increasing their ownership and stakeholders in their children’s future</li><li>Performance and quality delivery of programme is ensured</li><li>Quality delivery of programme is ensured</li></ul>
