For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. “The abusers insert a candle or fingers in the vagina of children torture them. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. The utilization of blood and blood components is increasingly becoming an important and indispensable component of clinical care, especially in the surgically-related fields. In line with this emphasis the patient safety when facing shortages in blood and its components, they have to seek assistance from other blood banks. There is a lack of blood banks that are well organized and can bridge the gap between donor and receiver. In times of emergencies, the patients needed a quick response for their blood requests. There are a lot of instances where patients die due to the non-availability of blood at the right time. In some cases, there may be wastage of blood and blood components due to improper manner of storing.  
 As a solution to this problem, we intend to set up a blood bank in Kanabargi, Belagavi and will try to solve the issue related to the availability of blood and blood components. The solution tries to make the best optimization of blood distribution. The main target of establishing a blood bank is to establish new policies/procedures in order to manage, control the process of requesting or donating blood and maintain the quality with high standard. We will design this blood bank as it should bridge the gap between the donor and the receiver. Also, it will be functional in such a way that it should respond quickly to the needs of the patients. The blood units are preserved and well maintained so that a single drop of blood should get wasted.  
 The blood bank will help to make a proper distribution of blood and will save many people’s precious lives every day. This is expected to help thousands of needy people every day.

Establishment of MyBlood Charitable Blood Bank

There are over 3000 HIV+ kids in Belagavi district alone that need support in terms of Nutrition, Education, Medicine and in some cases Shelter also. Quite a lot of these children have lost their parents to HIV and are orphans. Mahesh Foundation provides a shelter to about 40 orphans in Ashakiran Home at Belagavi. But there is a need for shelter for hundreds more HIV+ Children. We are building a new hostel cum school to accommodate these children. We are seeking financial support for enlightening their lives. 
 Mahesh Foundation provides Education, Nutrition, Medical support to over 1800 needy children. We also run a shelter for about 40 children with 50% girls in it. We are conducting AIDS/HIV awareness programs in 28 schools. We also offer a mechanism to handle discrimination for people living with HIV . We are starting skilling programs for HIV+ youth in order to make them self sufficient. 
 We have taken in children from 4 years of age and in critical health. We have not lost even one child in 7 years of our operation thus proving that kids with HIV can lead a long and productive life. We have saved widows from ending their life or getting into prostitution by counseling them at the right time. Currently 40 children are getting shelter at Mahesh Foundation, over 1800 kids get educational support and 350 kids get nutritional supplement.

After the basic needs of food, shelter and medicine they need education in order to become self reliant in their life. The challenge is that the current education makes children literate but capable only to work in an office. They need job skills and life skills during their schooling that would make a difference in success and failure in their lives. 
 Mahesh Foundation’s Residential School is quite unique. The uniqueness of the school comes from the educational philosophy that is a combination of JK’s philosophy and multiple intelligence theory. Our approach will enable a child to learn using its innate curiosity and choose the areas that naturally attract the individual child. Along with the subject education, there will be emphasis on SQ and EQ development. We have dedicated 2 floors of the building for classes with lots of open spaces where a child learns while playing. We are building residential areas to accommodate 60 children in the same building. 
 The limited facility at our current hostel restricts us from offering shelter to more than 40 kids. The new hostel will house about 60 HIV+ orphans, providing succour to many needy kids. We will be truly able to make an impact on the lives of these kids by providing them with life skills that will enable them to lead a normal life. In addition we will be providing free education to children from nearby slum and village too. We expect our school to have a long term impact on the education and life of surrounding hundreds of families.
