It was just me and my young son. After my son got married, he left me to stay with his in-laws, and I was alone. I am old, have pain in my legs, knees, shoulders and my entire body so I cannot work as I once did. To achieve this mission, Share and Care runs a program in Chennai and also a village in Tiruvallur, where the 400 elderly live. The organization was founded in 2005 by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh and Mrs. Winnie Singh with the goal of spreading awareness on essential health affecting information among members of India’s uniformed services and their families. This included sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis and HIV/AIDs. Since then, Maitri soon expanded its work to include education and sensitization to end violence against women as well as citizenship rights and health issues concerning migrant populations. In 2008, Maitri came across a unique and an extremely vulnerable population in Vrindavan, widows who were victims of domestic violence, inflicted by their family members, including their sons and relatives and rendered homeless and destitute to live on the streets of Vrindavan, begging. It was a heartfelt need to support and bring dignity into the lives of the homeless, destitute and abandoned widows of Vrindavan. One can say it was a crucial moment in the history of Maitri and formed a benchmark to work towards identity, dignity and respect. In July 2010, Maitri launched Project Jeevan in Vrindavan, Jeevan symbolizes life, a life with dignity. Maitri translates as Compassion, loving-kindness. Hence compassion in life and addressing another human with loving kindness was the motto for the projects birth. The project’s aim has been to ensure identity, respect and dignity to the ageing, homeless, abandoned and destitute widows. Let’s take a look at the impact highlights during FY 2025-26:<ul><li>Provided shelter and care to 415 abandoned widow mothers in Vrindavan</li><li>Successfully facilitated a major oncology surgery along with chemotherapy and radiation therapy for a widow mother.</li><li>37 widows underwent cataract surgery, provided dental treatment to 82 widows, and conducted preventive health check-ups for 623 widows </li><li>Provided nutritious daily meals along with fruits and milk to widow mothers </li><li>Provided hypertension and diabetes medicines daily for 72 widows.</li><li>Distributed 60,225 meals to widow mothers to ensure their overall well-being.</li><li>Conducted livelihood and skill-building training for 23 widows in bag and stole making, while 16 widows received training under the pickle-making initiative. </li><li>Organised counselling sessions for 87 widows coping with grief and loss.</li><li>Supported 39 widow mothers through income generation programs</li><li>Provided doctor prescribed daily supplements to the widow mothers.</li><li>Distributed 650 sarees along with blouses and petticoats to the widow mothers.</li></ul>Your support will help us keep our mission alive. Vrindavan, a holy town, is home to appx.15,000 widows abandoned &amp; destitute. Abandoned by their families, they end up begging for survival. Many elderly women in India suffer from poverty, isolation and social exclusion. In particular, elderly widowed women are often denied even basic rights such as food, health-care and are thrown out of their homes by their families.Thousands of such aged widows congregate in India's holy city, Vrindavan, where they usually spend the rest of their lives in austerity, begging for food and living in hovels with no electricity and running water. This project seeks to restore dignity in their lives. Maitri has built &amp; furnished two ashrams in Vrindavan &amp; Radhakund, providing shelter, food, clothing, &amp; healthcare to 300 resident widows &amp; 100 widows living in the neighborhood. Your donation will help provide them with essentials for a dignified &amp; healthy living as well as skill them for livelihood opportunities. You make a difference! 
 Maitri India's old age home offers a safe, hygienic and comfortable home for 300 elderly widowed women in 2 co locations. It provides them essentials for life including daily meals, nutritional supplements, clothing and healthcare. Moreover, it will facilitate skill development, income generation and secure citizenship rights and government-provided benefits. Maitri also ensures the widow mothers' dignity in death through conducting their last rites in accordance with their religious belief. 
 Our project will provide 300 aged women shelter within a supportive and comfortable environment. And provide additional 100 widows meals, health supplements, and enabling access to general and multi-specialty healthcare. These women will be able to lead healthier lives. In addition, the project will help increase their socio-economic independence by facilitating access to citizenship rights and opportunities for vocational training, skill enhancement and employment ;help in emotional and mental well being through therapies, excursion trips etc
