For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Marathwada Gramin Vikas Sanstha (MGVS) was established in the year 1995-96 to promote community-based development programs with a vision to create a society with equal access to basic necessities and dignified living. The organization works in the fields of child welfare, community health service and awareness, water and sanitation, and income generation in various parts of Maharastra.MGVS has taken up various projects such as toilets construction for rural poor families, a shelter home for beggars and orphan children, HIV / AIDS and STD control program, community-based health care programs, and water conservation in drought-affected villages.For its unswerving dedication, the organization's work has been acknowledged by the health minister and Maharashtra government.More than 3500 sex workers have undergone screening, and around 25 villages are a part of the community-based health care programs. MGVS constructed more than 500 toilets in 14 villages and has provided shelters to 180 beggars.It also provided medical care to more than 174 children and hundreds of rural poor women underwent free delivery in the community health centers. Marathwada Gramin Vikas Sanstha {MGVS) is working in health, community health, water, and sanitation project, etc. for the last 20 years, during the implementation of their reproductive &amp; child health, HIV /AIDS targeted intervention, and Pediatrics AIDS initiative we have identified and worked with 650 HIV positive children from 100 villages of Aurangabad districts. These children are registered and receiving Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). 45 to 50 % of these children are orphans while others are single or foster parented. The condition of these children is exceedingly pathetic. They are without care and support. Relatives are not ready to keep these children in their homes. Grandparents who are alive are usually extremely poor and unable to take the necessary special care of the children. The children feel insecure and neglected and fall prey to infection and weakness, which ultimately leads to premature mortality. To help stem this problem MGVS decided to provide permanent residential care and support to these HIV-positive and vulnerable orphaned children.We don’t have any financial support for daily activities, food, and education for children, so we are raising funds through various ways for the above mission.MGVS provides home-based care and support to 475 children. They are partial nutrition, in which we provide them with groundnut, Gud, Sprouts (protein), Rice Jaggery, etc. ORW makes monthly visits to the children and their guardians for counseling.Their immediate needs for food, shelter, or medical care are met at guardian homes therefore it gives them the very basic support for living life positively. The project eliminates the insecurity of food in the life of the child. Good hygienic food makes the immune system stronger. The child is active in his day-to-day work activities. He/she is more positive towards his future and more concentrative towards her studies. The child is safe and protected at the guardian's home. The orphan child is enrolled in school because of which he/she can be self-sustainable and more confident when he is mature.
