Like all proud Indians and NRIs, we too, want to make India a better country. Even after the typically fierce “but India has a great history” retort, we look down embarrassed and helpless in terms of our rural youth being misguided and unemployed. The education system in rural India suffers both on poor infrastructure as well as an abysmal quality of education.A short clip above gives an overview of our work. Also there are related articles by Dr. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore. We have been very lucky to have had the stalwarts from the education & social entrepreneurship sector (Professors from IIM Indore, Bangalore, Udaipur & TISS; Caring Friends, Mumbai, Other NGO entrepreneurs like Vinayak Lohani) and tie-ups with institutions like Head-Held High & Goonj Delhi) guide us through our journey of trying to bring around this paradigm shift.
We need your contribution to help the youth realize their dreams. Lets together give them our support and guidance and do our part in giving back to the society we feel proud to be a part of!SSES through its educational initiative SSISM empowers the rural youth with access to quality higher education and employment opportunities. It offers graduation courses with transportation to rural students from the interiors of Madhya Pradesh (70 KM radius). Free computer access education is provided to school children. Special focus is on girl education and parent counseling. Out of 1050 students; 70% are girls, few being university toppers. SSES provides placement & entrepreneurship opportunities to students by exposing them to current industry needs every 6 months via industry visits, training, updated curriculum, vocational training etc. Spoken English classes from Head-Held High, Bangalore headed by CNN IBN Awardee aims to bridge the crucial communication gap that poses a big challenge of these students.
SSES target to impact minimum 10,000 direct beneficiaries per year. These include students, their families and all who wants to become self reliant.Since 2010; we have imparted courses & training's to nearly 6000 people. A paradigm shift from being aloof to being aware and focused to parents encouraging their girls to study and become independent have been our key achievements. Some of the achievements are: 1050 total students, 60% girls from 200 villages, 4000+ villagers trained in the basics of computers, 10+ entrepreneurship projects, 14 university toppers, 3 university sports captain and 70+ placements in national and multi-national companies.SSISM alumnis being role models, girls making an exemplary mark by being independent and proving themselves, Emergence of local entrepreneurs. Girls who decide to stay in village are much sought after as teachers at primary and secondary schools, allied industries and occupations like dairy farming, retailing, etc. They are proving to be more aware and dedicated for their family occupation, like farming.

Empower rural youth for a brighter future

Disadvantaged students face many obstacles when trying to pursue an education. The expense to go to school combined with their parents expectations for their children to work and earn a living, means many discontinue their education. This leads to poor employment options in the future. In a country like India, where the majority of the population are youths, the overall effect of this problem multiplies. Societies progress and the economies growth rate both deteriorate as so many people are uneducated.
We have started an initiative to support bright but underprivileged students post the 10th grade to pursue further studies in literacy; leading to employment. We cover the cost of scholarships, books, and all skill training. Each student is carefully selected based upon academic performance and economic assessments. Our volunteers visit student’s homes to get a better understanding of their financial situation. As we have such a big network of volunteers covering a vast area, we can ensure that we reach as many students as possible.
Through our efforts and the support of others like you, more than 5000 students have received employment through Vidya Poshak and over 4000 students have reached the next level of literacy. Also, 60 free of cost rural book banks have been opened where students can borrow books and educational material.

Provide opportunities to deserving underprivileged students

In our country, there are hardly any facilities for physically challenged and orphan youth for their higher education and administrative career. For visually impaired and hearing impaired youth study material, teaching resources, technology, and other facilities are not available for higher education. Government and various non-governmental organizations do work for rehabilitation and welfare of these children but their focus is largely on children (age below 18 years) and welfare through providing alternative livelihood opportunities. Government and NGOs runs various shelter homes but the orphan children need to leave them once they become 18 years old. The government also provides relaxation and reservations for children who are differently-abled in job and education but the benefit hardly reaches the intended beneficiaries because most of them do not get the chance and necessary support for pursuing education beyond HSC.As a result of all this, thousands of youth who are orphan and/or are differently able, who have passed HSC exam and, in some cases, have also completed their graduation, do not have necessary support systems and resources to pursue higher education, are unable to become employable and are unable to compete with other youth from better social background.

Deepstambh provides / will provide integrated long-term assistance & support to selected youth through manobal project free residential training center for competitive examinations like UPSC, MPSC, Staff selection, Bank recruitment, etc. for a period of 1 to 3 years as per requirement of students.

Deepstambh has developed and is continuously developing appropriate and custom study material and curriculum which is useful for competitive examination.

For visually impaired and hearing impaired youth, Deepstambh has trained special trainers, counselors, and teachers.

Deepstambh provides technology training like usage of computer / Android mobile recorder, etc. and the necessary infrastructure is made available.

Special counseling sessions and workshops are arranged for their overall personality development and career guidance.

Deepstambh is working with youth for the last many years and has been trying to empower them through the provision of necessary support systems, guidance and appropriate training for competitive exams and for better livelihood opportunities. These programs of Deepstambh have provided very encouraging results in the last 7 years - 47 students with disability and 122 orphans, schedule tribes and schedule cast students have become government officers and have gained meaningful employment.

We wish that thousands of less privileged youth from rural tribal areas, physically challenged & orphan youth will get higher posts & opportunities in Government examinations & different fields of career. Having first-hand experience of all sufferings, they will take appropriate decisions & implement them sensitively in their areas of work. Then only the dream of equality & humanity will be in reality. With this, we want to change the thinking & approach of society towards these youth, as they are human beings like us and can do anything.

Students get a permanent source of income.

It’s a transformation not only for life of especially able, orphan youth but also in his family.

The student will also contribute to and inspire other deprived students.

The overall society & system get sensitized and receives a positive message.

India’s massive and growing youth population (>40% of the population is less than 20 years old; more than 300 million people will enter the workforce in the next twenty years) presents an enormous opportunity for the country, while at the same time an equally significant challenge. Of the over six million college graduates each year, only 20% are deemed employable by industry. In the north and eastern part of the country, where Medha primarily works, the problem is even more significant. There is a need to bridge this gap between education and employability to improve employment outcomes.
The key objective of the project is to improve employment outcomes, increase employability, and enhance life skills for 500 in the coming financial year. Working across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar, the project will focus on supporting the most disadvantaged youth in India. Medha will offer its employability training program at selected under-resourced campuses and enrol 500 youth in batches of 25-30 each. Medha will also help students gain industry exposure through internship opportunities, industry visits, and industry talks. In addition to Medha’s direct operations and expansion, The donor's support will contribute to Medha building greater systems and capabilities for broader scale and impact, and overall monitoring and evaluation of the program and its intended outcomes.
We foresee an improvement in employment outcomes, increase employability and enhance life skills for the underprivileged youth. We tend to increase job readiness amongst today's youth and increase career satisfaction as well. Through Internship opportunities, industry visits, industry talks etc. We want to create career awareness that will help the students choose wisely the option they want to pursue.
