I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Mobile Creches is a pioneering organisation working for the right of marginalised children to Early Childhood Development. Our work spans from grassroot level interventions to policy advocacy at the national level.Mobile Creches was an idea born out of compassion for children, indignation at their plight, and the determination to make a change. The first ‘mobile creche’ was set up in 1969, at a construction site near Rajghat, in Delhi. It was a safe, nurturing shelter for the children of construction workers, open six days a week, eight hours a day, on the site near the hutments, where the little ones could play, learn, eat, sleep - and be cared for. And the idea spread: from building sites to urban slums; from childcare services to training and advocacy. The idea started a movement in Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), for some of the most neglected children, in the harshest of circumstances.The programme has four main components:(1) Ensuring childcare, pre-school education, nutrition and health to 14000 children/year, at construction sites in partnership with builders and in the slums through community crèches and family-based interventions; (2) Building awareness on child issues and linking families to state services; (3) Training community women and workers in other NGOs (in the Hindi speaking belt) to run crèches; (4) Advocating with the government for the right policies, laws and programmes to impact young children across India.

Children will bear the scars of the pandemic for years to come – help to protect them from this catastrophe. The future of India’s COVID generation must be protected at all costs. Mobile Creches (MC) has stepped up its COVID 2.0 Relief Response plans.The highest responsibility is to save lives. There is an equal responsibility to fight back the spread of the virus through preventive measures. Additionally, there are children’s ongoing health, nutrition, education, protection, and care needs that must be met as their access to essential services is fully disrupted. Or parents are infected leaving the burden on siblings to look out for each other. MC was diligent in its COVID-19 relief response and builds upon this experience to support some of the most vulnerable migrant children and their families across urban cities. In a pandemic of such gigantic proportions, the urgency is to ramp up health infrastructure and support frontline health workers to meet the expected peak caseload across the country. At the same time, it is vital for organizations like MC to remain connected with poor families, excluded from public welfare systems, to ensure they have the information and the means to remain resilient against infection. 
 To cater to the needs, Mobile Creches provides holistic childcare program for young children of migrant laborers to suit mothers’ work timings - 8 hours a day (9:00am – 5:00pm); 25 days a month by taking care of components like health, nutrition, education, and community awareness to the tangibles in the outside world.MC’s COVID 2.0 Relief Response will:<ul><li>Respond to emergency requests for oxygen cylinders, concentrators, hospital beds, plasma donors, medicines etc. through linkages with public, private, and community provisions.</li><li>Run community relief through COVID awareness, monthly nutrition for children, psychosocial help, immunization linkages, early education modules, and facilitate vaccination camps at labour camps and urban slums.</li><li>Distribute COVID management kits comprising of oxymeters, thermometers, masks, and sanitisers. Bundled with awareness about their use. So that entire families are protected.</li><li>Directly reaching families through its network of community leaders.</li><li>Reaching families through partner network across India, and their local resources.</li><li>Collaborating with supply chain systems already on the ground and expand it.</li><li>Ensure government entitlements are accessed and not duplicated.</li><li>Follow all safety precautions and lockdown protocols as per government.</li></ul> 
 In total, Mobile Creches has reached out to more than 750,000 children, trained 7000 women as childcare workers, run 700 daycare centers, partnered with 200 builders, networked with 100+ NGOs, and influenced key policies, laws, and programs. Through this project, Mobile Creches targeted to reach a minimum of 3000 children in a year for 10 centers with 30 Children in each center.
