For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. NANRITAM is a non-profit social welfare organization (Registration No. S/11/8102 of 2001-02 under Society Registration Act 1961) started in 2002 by a few like-minded professionals who had one common inspiration to guide them - Swami Vivekananda’s ideal of service to mankind. The organization had started working with a small community of slum dwellers in North Kolkata in 2001 through a small, health care unit. Though the scale was small the approach was to make the services as comprehensible as was possible, given its limited means in the early days. In 2004 Nanritam started working in the rural Para Block of Purulia district which has, over the years, become the principal centre of most of its activities. Nanritam now operates from its headquarters at Barandanga Village in Para Block, Purulia where the entire executive committee is full-time resident. This campus at present also hosts a 100- member resident workforce. This team, along with another 140 field workers selected from the community for its community outreach activities, supports the organization’s work in the backward districts of Purulia, Bankura and Paschim Medinipur in West Bengal. It started with committed doctors making the overnight journey from Howrah to Anara in Howrah Chakradhapur Passenger, performing the surgeries during the day at the hospital, and returning in another overnight journey. When some of these doctors retired, they moved to Para, to serve their full time. Thus this eye hospital is blessed with the best doctors in the region, some full time, some part-time, thanks to the blessings of the Divine Mother. Many of them are former or current practitioners at Sankara Nethralaya, B B Eye Foundation, Narayana Nethralaya, Apollo Gleaneaggles and others. In some cases Machines procured by availing Interest-free loans from the supplier companies.&gt; FILIX SCHOOL OF EDUCATION: Over the years, English has emerged as the language of choice for commerce, economic growth and social mobility. Teaching their children quality 'English' has emerged as one of the top expectations of the majority of parents. Filix School of Education is Nanritam’s response to this hugely felt need enabling the children of Mamata the maid, Sipu the attendant, Dasarath the farmer, Nagar the cook, and many of their ilk to obtain quality education in English medium side by side with children from economically less disadvantaged families. The school has set forth its journey in April 2014 with three pre-school classes: Nursery, KG I, KG II and 70 students in total. Filix believes that Each child has a unique way of exploring the world around them, a distinct process of acquiring knowledge and a unique individual style of interacting with people around them. This makes every single child special in his/her own way. Our aim is to appreciate the uniqueness of each child and provide them with adequate support and space to bloom. The total students' strength is 600 plus from Nursery to STD VIII. Nanritam does this by providing cataract surgery at no cost to those who cannot afford it and by running a school that provides quality education to underprivileged children. During our visit to Lokeswarananda Eye Hospital, we witnessed firsthand the impact created through the funds by the fundraiser. The hospital provides all services free of charge to individuals from underserved communities.&nbsp;We had the opportunity to interact with Ms. Ranjana Sengupta, Secretary of the organization, and Sri. Sarada Prasad Namhata, Joint Secretary. They briefed us on the organization's mission and the various programs they offer to help bridge the gaps in the society. Nanritam uses dedicated money management software and employs multiple teams to track the cash flow. We also interacted with a few beneficiaries from the villages of Amlatora and Gehor, who had cataract surgeries performed through Nanritam. Overall it was an extraordinary experience. Nanritam emphasis on quantity over quality helps them keep their focus and take heart in what they do. Using technology to improve people's health sets this noble organization apart. Learning poverty &amp; learning loss threatening nations future"Without urgent action to reduce learning poverty, we face a learning and human capital catastrophe. If children do not acquire the basics of literacy together with numeracy and other foundational skills—the futures of hundreds of millions of children around the world, and their societies, are at grave risk". Says a <a href="https://www.unicef.org/media/122921/file/State%20of%20Learning%20Poverty%202022.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">recent joint report</a> by UNESCO, UNICEF, FDCO, USAID &amp; BMGF. Nearly, 6 out of every 10, ten-year-olds in low- and middle-income countries were suffering from learning poverty even before Covid 19. Now long Covid 19 school closures have further deepened the crisis to unprecedented level. A <a href="http://img.asercentre.org/docs/statusoflearning_22.04.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">recent ASER report</a> has reflected the similar grave situation for India too. While urgent Government policy interventions are needed, the role of private organizations, with expertise, knowledge and grassroots community network, is absolutely critical to overcome this crisis and even converting this to an opportunity to address a historical gap. 
 A unique innovative approach by empowering grassroots educators Nanritam, a nonprofit organization operating from a rural corner of West Bengal with initiatives in health, education and rural livelihood building, has now developed and implemented a system solution, Education for All (EFA) to address this gap in foundational literacy and numeracy. They have leveraged their exceptional activity based playful pedagogy, pool of experts and teachers and strong community network to build and implement the solution. The key feature of the program is to empower, equip and train grassroots teachers in the remote communities, who may not have the advanced degrees but with their passion and dedication are essentially the true change makers to establish a sustainable system. The program includes, books, e books, video instructions and weekly online training, periodic residential workshops and continuous mentoring and feedback sessions.  In short, an innovative system solution is established that is offered free of cost. 
 Significant impact is visible in remote locations across India that needs fast scale up.Conceptualized in Nov. 2021, in round one 1000 teachers representing 150 schools from 10 backward districts of West Bengal got empowered - positively impacting 40,000 students. Continuous monitoring and formal periodic assessment indicating phenomenal improvement in children learning and high enthusiasm from the teachers. In October-2022, EFA has successfully completed teachers training introduction for 72 schools in Ladakh in partnership with New Millennium Education Foundation, Ladakh. Also in October, 150 police volunteer trainees representing 75 learning centers from 4 northern districts of West Bengal received initial teachers training in partnership with West Bengal police under community police service. We are aiming to empower and train up to at least 5000 teachers per year impacting more than 2,00,000 additional students every year<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/d2126c2a-59db-49ce-bfe3-c219e1a53255.png" />North Bengal Police partnered with Nanritam to empower civic communityThe common notion about police often fail to recognize the wonderful services some of our brothers and sisters in this uniform do, not only to protect us but also to help building successful communities in society and in remote corners. A large number of paid civic volunteers of West Bengal police are silently working in the remotest corners in the districts of North Bengal and other backward districts to bring the light of education to the most learning deprived children - through hundreds of learning centers, impacting thousands of children’s future.West Bengal police North Bengal has now partnered with Nanritam to empower these community civic volunteer teachers with EFA pedagogy, methodology and implement the top quality pre primary primary education to these remote learning centers. The partnership program has just started. <ul><li>9 out of 10 people who are blind don’t have to be. Their blindness can be well treated by medical/surgical intervention.</li><li>Due to the unavailability of affordable and good quality health care in tribal and rural areas, many poor people have to live with this treatable blindness. The blindness not only causes suffering but also takes away the employment and livelihood of the individual - due to which he/she falls deeper into the jaws of poverty and helplessness.</li><li>This heartbreaking reality is true for many parts of our country - including in the tribal region of Purulia in West Bengal where we are located.</li></ul> 
 <ul><li>Our Institution has established a 100-bed advanced eye-care hospital in a rural part (Para Block) of Purulia district in West Bengal. Our hospital is being served by super specialist eye surgeons and we are equipped with the most advanced equipment to provide high-quality eye care to our patients. Over 90% of our surgeries are conducted free of charge as the patients whom we serve are extremely poor and can't even pay the minimum cost.</li><li>We regularly conduct eye camps in the nearby interior regions of West Bengal and Jharkhand. In the eye camps, we screen all the patients for their eye ailments. The patients who require surgery are identified and served at our hospital.</li><li>(Those patients that don't require surgery are being provided medicines and treatment at the camp location.)</li><li>Patients requiring hospitalization are provided complete service including transportation (to &amp; fro from their village to the hospital) and medical surgery care (Cataract, Retina and Glaucoma Surgeries). 90%+ of these patients are not charged any amount for these services.</li></ul> 
 <ul><li>Due to our intervention, we are fortunate to be able to remove the intense suffering arising out of the blindness in the poor and needy people.</li><li>Further, after the patients get rid of their blindness, they are able to resume their livelihood and are economically productive again. Due to this, their poverty also reduces and well being improves significantly.</li></ul>
