For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. By then, Preeti had spent years of hardship as a homeless person. When Ashadeep found Preeti, she was malnourished and was diagnosed with severe mental illness. After undergoing years of medical treatment and therapy at Ashadeep, Preeti has seen substantial recovery. She feels glad to have finally found a safe home.Dr Anjana Goswami along with her husband Mukul, started Ashadeep Day Rehabilitation Centre four decades back and since then, the couple have rescued over 1,200 mentally ill homeless from the streets. But the rise in costs of medical care and other essentials have begun to pose a huge challenge for the couple.Dr Anjana is struggling to keep the doors of Ashadeep open for more people. Without a safe shelter, they are subjected to constant sexual abuse on the streets,” shares Dr Anjana while shedding light on the extreme difficulties faced by homeless mentally ill patients. They have been rescuing the homeless from the streets and giving them a safe home for decades now.A beacon of hope for mentally ill homeless"Our main objective is to provide the best treatment and psychiatric care to those we rescue so they can live active lives. We enable our residents to live a life of dignity through medication and different therapies. We also try to find the families of those patients who have lost their way home and reunite them with their loved ones. Mister Helal Uddin is an Assamese farmer who was forced to give up his profession to battle his deadly thoracic cancer. Now their only source of income comes from their son who works in a daily wage shop in Mumbai and has to provide for the entire family. Mr Helal Uddin and his wife can barely sustain their lifestyle of eating two meals daily and living in a room shared with several others. His weekly Chemotherapy sessions cost Rs 6,000 which is far outside his capability to finance independently. Get ready to be amazed by the stories of resilience and triumph that your contributions have sparked! 🌟🏡 Field Visit Date: 17/10/2023Field Visit by: Atreyi Bhanja, Associate Visit Summary:During our visit, we went to Tata Medical Cancer Care Hospital, where we engaged with 14-15 beneficiaries. We discussed their treatment progress, the funds they have received, and the status of their treatment. As of 17th October, Give's funds have benefitted 40 patients at the hospital, covering chemotherapy and pediatric care. Nargis Dutt Foundation deposits the required amount directly into the hospital-created cards, ensuring funds are used for treatment expenses. We met with the head of the MSW to understand the beneficiary identification and allocation process. All patient requests are centralized for background verification, ensuring no overlap with government or private schemes. The Nargis Dutt Foundation suggested this efficient structure. The pediatric department and ICU, donated by the foundation, play a crucial role in the hospital's operations. We had a detailed conversation with the head of the pediatric department to understand their interventions. The foundation has made substantial progress, equipping over 100 rural hospitals with medical equipment, conducting medical camps for the underprivileged, cancer screening programs, and providing scholarships to deserving students. It has also focused on developing rural schools, enhancing sanitation, clean drinking water, computer labs, playgrounds, e-learning, and extracurricular activities. 🙌 Thank you for being the beacon of light in the lives of those we serve. While it has immediately impacted a child's access to education and learning, the uncertainty around these children being able to join school in future is as concerning. The Nargis Dutt Foundation has received several applications from deserving students for educational support. Your donation of ₹10,000/- can help the organisation support education for one child for a year; this is less than ₹1,000/- for a month.The on-going pandemic has been devastating for many families with loss of employment or death of a loved one. Families too are struggling to pay the fees of their children besides daily expenses. It is a huge setback and mental stress for many parents trying to support their children's education. Children too have been going through a lot of stress with education going online for the first time. We have received hundreds of applications for scholarships, a desperate need for children to be able to continue their education. Your help today will go a long way in paving the future for that child. We all desire a good education but many are struggling just to be educated, especially during this pandemic. Be a Mentor, a Guide, an Angel in someone's life. 
 The Nargis Dutt Foundation provides scholarships to meritorious students from economically weaker sections. During the academic year 2020-21, we provided scholarships to 307 students for their school fees, vocational courses and professional degrees like engineering, Dental, Chartered Accountancy, Medicine. Our goal is to reach out to many more through this campaign. Besides academic fees, we also help the student develop holistically with workshops throughout the year like motivational talks, career guidance and extra curricular activities like dance, music, art and drama. This we believe helps improve the mental health of the child and keeps them motivated to study hard.We support meritorious students from disadvantaged families after complete due diligence like taking an interview with the child/parent and documentation which includes income certificate, fees structure, academic results, adhar card and an NDF online form. We believe in supporting the child year on year till they complete their education. We provide 50% of fees. Fees are paid directly to the school or college. No amount is transferred to personal accounts. Rs.10000 can help in sponsoring the school fees of a child for a year, which is less than Rs1000/- a month. 
 We believe education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. It is the key to end child labour and break the cycle of poverty. NDF has touched the lives of over 50000 students through our education projects in rural school development, scholarships, computer education, e-learning and distribution of school kits.We have seen the positive effects of what an education can provide. Our students who received our scholarships are now working with top companies like TCS, Larsen &amp; Turbo Infotech, Wipro, Ernst and Young and related companies. One of our students is also working in Germany. It is wonderful to see the children of our essential workforce ( who are the backbone of our nation) like auto-rickshaw drivers, house-helps, taxi drivers, embroidery workers, labourers and daily wage earners break the cycle of poverty and change the circumstances of their families. Our past students also 'Pay it Forward' by guiding other students academically or in their careers.
