For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The second wave of the pandemic has drastically affected the access to education for tribal children in Coimbatore and Karamadai, pushing them towards child labor. Native Medicare Charitable Trust is supporting 200 tribal children by providing home schooling, nutritional meals and necessary health &amp; hygiene kits for a period of 10 months at the cost of ₹1,600 per child per month.The schools have been closed since March 2020 due to Corona Pandemic. In the absence of schools, Tribal children tend to go along with their parents for any agriculture and daily wage work which lead to child labor. They do not have access for online class room facility which resulted in their gap in education. Unless we take care of these children, the continuity of their education will not be ensured. Education cannot be neglected in these areas because they are already far behind the mainstream education. Corona pandemic is a reality and we must act, accepting the reality, rather than thinking about everything will be back to normal and only aim at status quo. The new-age problems need to be addressed differently to meet the emerging new normal and hence new-age solutions should also be implemented to ensure quality education in the Tribal areas.  
 Overall project objective –Ø To create an Educational opportunity among 200 tribal children to continue the formal education during and after COVID-19 pandemicØ To provide nutritional meal to the Home Schooling children to cope up with their health.Ø To reduce the child labor and child marriage by engaging the children through Non-formal educationActivities: Ø To conduct Home Schooling in 10 Tribal hamlets for 10 months starting from August 2021( 10 am to 1 pm followed by lunch)Ø To provide quality education with the support of Local volunteers as teachersØ To provide necessary educational aids to the childrenØ To provide necessary health &amp; hygiene kits to the childrenTo provide mid - day meals to the children attending Home Schooling

Establishment of   “Home Schooling” in 10 Tribal Hamlets of Karamadai Block, Coimbatore District

Tirupur being the largest industrial city in South India have mushroom growth of Hosiery Units, which employ lakhs of migrant workers from other states and districts. The entire district in and around also accommodate thousands of mini industries undertaking job works for hosiery units. The migrant workers due to lack of awareness on safe sex acquire HIV in a course of time. There are also thousands of commercial sex workers in the district. The Tirupur district has a population around 30 lacks of whom as of 2017, as many as 2500 HIV infected persons have registered with Government Hospitals for ART treatments. Among them 80% of PLHIV have issues related to stigma, human rights violation and denial of opportunities. Most of them also lack adequate facilities to perform medical procedures and health care information. 60% of PLHIV and their family members need social protection support including livelihood to ensure life and dignity. Most of the PLHIV are reluctant to come to public service delivery system and need psycho social support and legal assistance. 
 The PLHIV in Tirupur District are identified through secondary and primary datas and reached out through home visits and care centers. Awareness on self care, counselling, and nutrition food supplements are provided at the door steps of the beneficiaries. Medical and financial assistance is provided to all PLHIV for attending to ART treatments regularly. PLHIV families are supported for maintaining kitchen gardens and milch animals to improve their health status.Simultaneously training are conducted on self care &amp; hygiene, life skill, vocational skills to PLHIV and career guidance training for Children Infected and Affected by HIV / AIDS are imparted at project level and care centers. Education support and Foster care support are provided to orphaned / semi orphaned children of HIV infected families. Sensitization meetings to Health Care Providers including Doctors, Nurses, Counselors, and Lab Technicians are conducted to motivate them for providing Health Care Services to PLHIV without any stigma and discrimination. Sensitization meetings are also conducted to Panchayath Raj Institution members and other social workers in order to access Government Welfare Schemes and other social action programes by PLHIV families. Support of nutrition health supplements and other livelihood supports are provided to PLHIV, CLHIV and deserted widows through project and as well as through linkages and mobilizing donations. 
 <ol><li>Increased access to HIV Care and Treatment Services with decreased stigma and discrimination and developed positive attitude by disclosing their status by PLHIV.</li><li>Improved health and economic status among PLHIV.</li><li>Improved access to education, skill development and free from discrimination, violence and harassment for the CLHIV / CAA children at school and community level.</li><li>Strengthen district level mechanisms for enrollment of PLHIV in social entitlements and social protection schemes by advocacy and collective efforts.</li><li>Increased awareness on STI / HIV and allied Health issues among key population.</li><li>Ensuring dignity of life, and protection of human rights among PLHIV.</li></ol>

LIFE for the People Living With HIV / AIDS ( PLHIV ) families and Prevention of HIV in Tirupur District

Most of the elderly Tribal were working as Agricultural laborers with the landlords nearby while the youth were attending to bricklins and construction work. As the CORONA Pandemic resulted in locking down of the bricklins and slow down the construction work all around the Tribes have left without any job, income and thereby lacking for food.There are nineteen tribal settlements in Karamadai block that suffer from complete isolation and marginalization. Tribal communities are the most vulnerable section who severely affected by COVID – 19 lock down and many lost their livelihood. The major occupation of the ‘Irular’ tribe communities inhabiting these villages is farming and animal husbandry, especially goat and cow rearing. However, in the absence of irrigation facilities, they cultivate crops such as beans, horse gram and ragi as rain-fed cultivation. Many of the families rely on daily wage work in the urban area and some of them depend on border state of Kerala for their daily wage work. Due to lock down and unavailability of transportation,they could not move from the villages and it causes the loss of income and heavily affected their livelihood.Under these circumstances NMCT plans to support Tribal communities with the livelihood support program  
 Provision of Sheep:The project will identify 75 most vulnerable families from amongst the 19 villages and support them with the provision of one unit of lambs with 5 females and 1 male. Provision of Heifer Calves:The project would support 75 families with the provision of 5 heifer calves of cross-bred milch animals each. When the calves grow into cows they can sell one or two cows and retain one or two for milk production. They can earn regular cash income through sale of their surplus milk.Provision of Cows:A total of 40 most vulnerable families from amongst the 9 villages will be supported with one cross-bred cow each and encouraged to pour the surplus milk to the nearest milk collection center. As they gain experience, the project will facilitate with access to credit for purchase of additional cows. Provision of ‘Desi’ Chicken:The project will provide Tribal women with ‘Kadaknath’ breed of ‘desi’ birds that can survive well in outdoor unconfined rearing. It will provide one small farm unit for 10 families together, which will be collectively managed and the resources shared. The project will support for the setting up of 10 such farm units .

Proposal on Strengthening the Livelihoods of Tribal Communities in Karamadai Block, Coimbatore

The COVID 19 Pandemic devastated the economy among the people especially among the poor and Daily Wagers. Due to frequent lock-downs of Hosiery &amp; Engineering Industries, and commercial establishments, thousands have lost their employment &amp; earnings and entire families are starving.The unprecedented economic constraints caused poverty in the family, left the elderly, especially the widowed women, without proper care, a square meal, and health care, as they depend on their family members. There are hundreds of such women without care, food, and dying without nutrition supplements. This project proposes the support of a Dry Ration Kit with vegetables and necessary nutrition supplements such as Horlicks, Dates worth Rs. 2000/- for each of the identified poor woman.  
 The organization is coming across hundreds of such neglected elderly widowed women, during the implementation of its various activities. NMCT will select 100 needy elderly women, who can support themselves for cooking. NMCT will supply Dry Ration Kits containing Rice, Dal, Oil, Wheat, Salt, Sugar, Health Drink, Dates and other cooking commodities like Eggs, Vegetables &amp; Spinach worth Rs.2000/- per month.It will also arrange for supply of Basic Cooking Vessels, Utensils etc. Without depending on the family members, they can have their meal for at least 2 times per day.  
 Due to financial constraints, family deputes, the members consider the elderly as a burden to them physically and financially. Even though, the elderly live in the joint family, most of the time they feel isolated without any attachment from the family members.Give India support will enable them to live independently, have their own cooking, chat with neighboring grandmas and always have a happy time. The family members also will relieve from the financial constraints.
