Through the Need Base India project, we will help 500 girls and women in overcoming the social barriers associated with menstruation. By providing them with the correct information, products, and facilities, we will ensure an equal opportunity for girls, whilst contributing to reaching 4 key Global Sustainable Development Goals.These girls face: Fear and shame caused by cultural myths/taboos and lack of information, lack of funds to source suitable sanitary products, defaulting to unhygienic alternatives, lack of privacy by being forced to share toilets with boys, gynaecological issues, and infections which can lead to early death and early marriages and pregnancies. 
 Our strategy will be threefold: 1. Educating - develop workshops to educate girls (from 11 to 20) on biology and hygiene best practices, provide counseling sessions and distribute informative booklets 2. Providing - distributing sanitary products and building new toilet facilities for girls 3. Engaging - engage family members, schools, and specialists to increase outreach 
 In our targeted areas, we hope to be able to: decrease the school dropout rate of girls, decrease the use of unhygienic alternatives, increase access to affordable sanitary products, an increasing number of toilet facilities, specifically with separation for girls, and increase knowledge and awareness on menstrual hygiene, decrease the level of exclusion and feelings of shame/fear for girls

Community & Rural Development

The trauma and difficulties faced by the street children are alarming day-by-day in Bangalore. There are thousands of aimless children on streets engaged in rag picking and stealing etc. Due to lack of parental supervision, they end up indulging in such activities and have no motivation for studying. Children are most vulnerable as they are easy victims of abuse and inhuman treatment. They often land up doing petty theft or prostitution for economic survival and spend on drug abuse, gambling, drinking etc. Having no shelter, they have no respite from heat, cold and rain. This poses a grave risk to them and ultimately their lives end on streets. 
 We found that most of the children had run away from home multiple times or were orphans or were children from broken families. For these children it was difficult to reunite with the parents. Hence to support them, we started two residential centres: Lakshya Udaan Home and Sneh Ghar. Both the centres are functioning in the Govt. Schools at Siddhapura and Shanthinagar, Bangalore. There are more than 85 children in both the centres. We provide counseling, shelter, food, health, recreation and education to the children. After bringing them at par with other children, the children are admitted in the formal schools. 
 We dedicatedly aim at creating a strong foundation for these children. Many of our children are performing well academically. Along with studies, they are also building competence and skills according to their interests. There is a positive change in behaviour and attitude of these children as they have completely given up bad- habits. Also, the community is now sensitized about parental care and supervision. We can provide an enlightening path to many more children, only with your support.

 Support the rehabilitation of underprivileged children

Education

Better learning requires regular attention &amp; teaching to the out-of-school children. This is an attempt to equip the Community Learning Centre with the right resources.In the glare of multistore, shiny office buildings, and shopping malls, we often do not notice the hidden slums of a rapidly growing city like Bangalore, which hosts many poor workers. Where earning daily food is a struggle, the education of their children remains their last priority. Moreover, because of seasonal migration, fear of getting misused and pushing them into poverty line, the responsibility of smaller siblings, instant money through begging at signals, etc, these children never get enrolled in govt. schools. Based on the survey conducted by our team we identified 70 children from 6 to 13 years who have never been to school. To solve all these problems and bring education to the lives of this difficult and often ignored section, the Need Base India team set up a community-based care canter at Muneshwara Slum, Muthyala Nager, Bangalore located close to their slums and run for only 3 hours, where we give them their first experience of Education. In the last six months, our team of dedicated team &amp; volunteers has been able to cultivate an interest in Education in these children, by taking weekend classes, designed especially for such children. We have observed significant positive changes in them. Now we want to take these children to the next level on the learning ladder. 
 Most of these children have never been to school, early dropped outs, and irregular to schooling. To inculcate a sense of discipline, which is very much required for effective learning, we want to have a close school-like environment at our centres. To bring schools close to them, Need Base India, a Community canter is located close to their slums. Classes are conducted in the open area using Tripels for sitting. This creates a casual sense in the children during the class, they keep playing around and sometimes they become difficult to handle. We want to have proper space in our canter at the CBC program to give them a sense of premise along with saving them from heat and rain. One temporary but durable canter with all the learning facilities costs around INR 100000. As most of our staff &amp; volunteers are working professionals, we conduct classes only on evenings &amp; weekends. However, for regularity in their learning, it is important to conduct classes every day. For this purpose, we approached college children, housewives, and senior citizens from surrounding apartments. But due to a lack of skills and infrastructure at the canter, their motivation starts decreasing and they discontinue. So we are in talks with a skilled team and volunteers to make these children learn how to read and write effectively.  Once we will have regular classes in the evenings, we will use weekends for skill-building workshops, conducting Bal Sabhas’, parent-teacher meetings, and medical camps for their overall growth and well-being. With our efforts, we will try to enrol these children in nearby schools in the coming days, they will become literate and be in a better position to take any opportunity of formal education that comes into their life. We are not just making them literate but also making them good human beings by teaching them the importance of truth, dignity, and moral values like respecting and helping others, etc. Gradually, we are working towards not letting so many children go untouched by education, who will otherwise roam around purposelessly, beg on signals, or get indulged in petty crimes. We are donating our time to educate them and empower them to lead dignified lives. We teach them the importance of earning something.

Slum Upgradation  - Community Learning Centre at Muneshwara Slum

Need Base India (NBI) founded in December 2009 aimed at helping all those children living under the most dreadful and uncertain situations. The organisation stands for providing holistic development i.e. care and protection, health, education, life skills etc to the children who otherwise never had accessibility to any of these. NBI aims at giving an opportunity to the children from difficult background to live, grow, flourish and become successful in their lives. Thus, it dreams of empowering children from difficult background or disadvantaged groups who can later be a positive influence in their communities or society they live in.To provide care and protection, Need Base India is running Long Term Residential Care Homes for the children found in the difficult situation. The Residential Homes are run in the Govt. School Premises and we are running Eight Residential Homes across Bangalore by helping 450 children. The impact, we see is that more than 50 children have passed 10th std, many of them are continuing higher education and few of them are working in various places.Need Base India runs another program, that is teaching the students studying in the Govt. School situated in the rural areas. We focus those Govt Schools, which have shortage of teachers and teach Maths, Science and English from class 5th to 7th std. This is taught by our volunteers situated across globe and the result we see many children continuing education and there is drastic reduce in the number of school dropout. We are collaborating with eVidyaloka and Dept of Education, Karnataka.
