When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. The parents of the 40 targeted poor children could not concentrate on the growth of their children. In their search for bread, they neglect the child's growth. The physiological and psychological needs of the target children are not addressed. They wander in the streets in the day time when the parents are working. Lack of appropriate food, shelter, deprivation of affection & care by the parents, were perceived as stumbling blocks in the child's formative development. 
 The project aims to support 40 poor children between 2-6 years in Kajapettai and Kodappu slums in Trichirappalli for a year. A creche is run to provide the children with quality education and care. The deprived children are given nutritious food and affection. The parents are made to involve themselves in the development of their child in due course. Periodical assessments are done to monitor age appropriate skills of the children. The physical growth and well being of the children are monitored. The project aims at developing the health and skills of the children in their formative years. 
 The project will develop the age appropriate skills of 40 poor deprived children. And make them healthy (physically and psychologically) by providing the required nutritious food, care and affection.

Help running a creche for 40 poor children

4256 children (age 6-14) from poor economic and social backgrounds are engaged as Child labourers in the ancillary heavy industries: automobile units, wind mill erection plants and quarrying industries in the Trichirappalli Town. The industrial growth in and around the Town in the past 2 decades has its negative impact on the children. The children are deprived of their right to education. They are forced to drop out of schools and are forced to work due to poverty. In work also they are paid low wages and are exploited as their parents are less educated and have no means to support the educational needs of their children. 
 The project aims at envisaging educational opportunity by financially supporting (for three years) 25 children who were once upon child labourers after organising functional literacy to 100 child laborers. The aim is to help the children have access to education, health &amp; equitable wages in future. The project aims at supporting the ex-child labour children who studied in our special schools and are continuing their high school and college education. A minimum of 25 children above 8th standard are successfully supported each year since 2014. We aim to give support to 50 children this year.The project aims to provide: Orientation to identified child labourers; Workshop on evils of child labour &amp; proposed outcomes to parents; Admission to regular schools.The parents will be counselled. Identified children will be admitted to special schools. They will be infused with confidence, motivation &amp; desire to continue their studies. Motivated, eligible children are then admitted to regular schools. 
 The education given to the child labourers will have a long term impact on their future in terms of wages and health. It will reduce the instances of child abuse both by the parents and the employers. Also the financial indebtedness will reduce in the long run if the children are educated. The standard of living will improve in the families of the ex-child labourers. Hence the community will have a sustainable development in the long run.

Ensure Education for 100 Child Laborers in Trichy district

Many children living in Trichy slums drop out of school before completing their education. The coaching class project of New Life supports 50 at risk students in grades 4-12 by conducting tuitions after school hours. The classes give students the individual attention they lack at school &amp; the guidance they lack at home. Specially trained teachers help students improve in subjects that are difficult for them, which are identified by tests. The students who are from difficult circumstances are also counselled to help them cope with emotional / psychological stress.In Trichy slums, many individuals engage in criminal activity to earn a living because their socio-economic status and lack of education make it difficult for them to find other jobs. Children growing up in this environment are more prone to drop out of school and also engage in criminal activity because of the influence of community members as well as the need to earn money to support their families. This creates a cycle of delinquency and lack of education in these communities. Also these children are vulnerable to physical abuses like child labour, sexual abuse, etc. The project aims at protecting them by ensuring their rights. 
 This project addresses this problem in several ways. First, it ensures the right of the children to education by monitoring that they dont drop out of school. Second, the classes help students to keep up with their course work so that they do not fall behind and become discouraged at school. Third, it gives children role models who are not engaged in criminal activity and who motivate students to continue their education. Fourth, it provides students with counselors that help them cope with stress created by their circumstances that might otherwise lead to them dropping out. 
 Shifting the focus of a community from criminal activity to being productive members of society takes a generational shift. By educating the children, and ensuring that they have the skills to take advantage of opportunities presented to them, New Life enables children from these communities to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. This project will affect two of the twelve slums that were identified by Trichy police as most prone to criminal activity for a year.
