Cattle, bred for profit and abandoned after they stop producing milk, are often found malnourished, injured or sick on city streets. Many face bitter winters, starvation and death in road accidents - a sad fate for cows in a country where they are revered by lakhs of people. To save cows from such a sad end, Swami Ishwar Das started Shree Krishnayan Desi Gaushala, currently home to 18,000+ abandoned cows. But with the rising costs of fodder and medicines, he is struggling to provide the quality of care such mistreated animals deserve. “It was in 2010 when I witnessed abandoned cows from the streets in Uttarakhand being transported in a truck. The cows were administered anesthesia and stacked one above the other like lifeless goods. When me and a few of my acquaintances brought the cows off the truck, two of them died before my eyes and that sight shook me to the core. It was then that I started Shree Krishnayan Gaushala with 11 abandoned cows in a small donated land,” says Swami Ishwar Das.Swami Ishwar Das is unable to bear the rising cost of nutrition and medical care for injured cows and needs support to continue to save these voiceless animals. Peepal Farm is a stray animal rescue, a no-till organic farm, and a women-powered small-scale social enterprise. It started out as a home that we built with space for injured stray animals to heal &amp; be heard, for people who wanted to help, and for us to be able to organically farm while reducing our harm. We started building Peepal Farm on December 9, 2014. Instead of putting in a swimming pool, we built a cow shed. Instead of an entertainment room, we have a clinic. Instead of having master bedrooms, we made rooms for those who want to come here and experience a simple, and purposeful life.We had started doing good because of our philosophy. Financial donations from people who want to make a difference for animals make a huge share of what helps us to operate our rescue operations, and our new hospital will be a big part of it: it will help us to effectively expand our facility and allow us to increase the number of animals we can save. We have so many plans, and so many animals that we want to help. Our overall goal is to act on behalf of these same animals, who cannot defend themselves, and to lessen or eliminate the suffering they endure at the hands of human beings, and help people to live, shop, and eat more sustainably and compassionately while encouraging social responsibility–that we mostly do through our social media. 
 Peepal Farm is a space for animals to heal and be heard. At the moment, our organisation is building a hospital for animals which is a stone’s throw away from our current clinic. All funds raised through this campaign will go towards funding it. In order to meet our fundraising goal and to keep our doors open for animals, it will truly take a village, and that is why we need your help to make this project into a reality. 
 In 2022 alone, we rescued or treated nearly 600 animals in need. Most of them came to our clinic and were treated here, while some got treatment on the streets. Additionally, we have twenty-seven resident animals at the moment that we have adopted ourselves over the years. They now get to live out the rest of their lives in complete peace and harmony with the other animals here at our farm.In the same year, we also carried out major sterilisation campaigns in which we managed to sterilise over 300 dogs in total, not to mention the female dogs that came to our clinic as in-patients who were also spayed before we released them; sterilisation is one of the things that we are most considerate about because it reduces population growth and is the only long-term solution to reducing or eliminating suffering of thousands and thousands of unwanted dogs on the streets.
