For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. The health system, particularly in the large cities and urban areas, is overwhelmed by the incessant stream of COVID patients seeking medical assistance and supplemental oxygen. Therefore, we must spread the message of adherence to COVID appropriate behavior in the communities along with supporting the ramping up of the public health infrastructure to prevent the crisis. In this context, Plan India has launched #HelpIndiaHeal initiative which seeks to directly support nearly 200,000 COVID-affected families in the coming three months (till July 2021). Additionally, 1 million poor and vulnerable families, especially girls and young women, will be indirectly supported through COVID prevention, vaccination, and food security interventions.The Project will focus on following actions: <ul><li>Food aid: To support 100,000 poor and vulnerable families affected by the COVID with food baskets to ensure food and nutrition security for 30 days. </li><li>Mass awareness campaign: Plan International will support one million adolescent girls, boys and young women in 1,800 villages to raise awareness of how to prevent the spread of COVID including tackling stigma and myths surrounding vaccinations.</li><li>Protection for COVID warriors. The organization aims to support 100,000 doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, police personnel, sanitation and other workers with personal protective equipment (PPE) to enable them to continue delivering services to COVID patients.</li><li>Oxygen concentrators for COVID patients. The organization will supply 500 COVID care and treatment centers in district headquarters and smaller towns with high-flow oxygen concentrator machines to enable them to support COVID patients who require supplemental oxygen.  </li><li>Supporting 10,000 COVID patients from poor and vulnerable communities in 20 districts by setting up temporary COVID care centers where they can access care, treatment and nutrition.</li></ul>

It is no longer sufficient to be literate to be successful in today’s world. Empowering underprivileged girls digitally is critical for preparing them for the current world. Digital literacy has the potential to empower girls to new levels of awareness, but sadly very few girls know how to use digital tools to their benefit. Girls' access and literacy to digital technologies and the internet can enable them to become more productive and career-oriented. The importance of providing girls with basic knowledge and the proper exposure to the Internet and digital technologies empowers them with new opportunities like - fighting for their rights, and becoming financially independent, thus benefiting society and the country in the long run. 
 Plan India envisions bringing a difference in the lives of girls and young girls with the Radhika Sen Memorial Fund. The proceeds of the fund will be used for running the Digital Mitra project. In the project, we aim to: <ul><li>Build the capacity of girls on the use of mobile phones for storytelling on the issues focusing mainly on gender equality</li><li>Build capacity and train them on the safe use of social media</li><li>Provide them direction and knowledge in creating campaigns on gender-related issues</li><li>Provide them direction on creating positive and right-based solutions to the identified issues</li></ul> 
 Plan India piloted Digital Mitra Project in 2021 and trained girls from underprivileged communities to create campaigns on common causes that impact their socio-economic well-being like girl education, the digital divide, girl safety, child marriage, and so on for effective storytelling using new digital tools, mobile journalism, and smartphones.In the second phase, 200 girl changemakers from Plan India communities learned how to use smartphones for digital storytelling on issues that affect them and their communities.
