For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. He is currently studying in the 4th standard at Government School, Lakshmi Sagara. The government provides Mid-Day Meals in Government Schools, but the child has to wait until noon to get food. This results in hunger and the loss of productive learning during the first half of the day.  “PRASANNA ANNA DAANA SEVA” a project to feed these people has been formed. A capacity to serve more than 15 lakh people per year has been installed in our kitchen. Presently 5,000 - 6,000 people are being served free food daily in Different Government hospitals.Hot Nutritious and Healthy Meals are prepared in our automatic kitchen gas fired and steam cooked in very highly clean hygienic atmosphere and transported to the destinations.We offer meals every day to poor care takers of the patients at NIMHANS, Jayadeva, Jayanagar, C V Raman, ESI Hospital and at Nirguna Mandir. Responding to the need we are planning to expand to 10,000 Meals every day.

 Prasanna Aarogya Daana a)    FREE CARDIAC CARE &amp; HEART PROCEDURE - Prasanna Trust provides free cardiac care and heart procedure for those who come from economically weaker section and especially poorest of the poor who can ill afford such facility in their time of need. b)    FREE EYE SCREENING &amp; PROVIDING CATARACT OPERATION - Prasanna Trust provides free eye screening camps and possible correction through free cataract surgeries for the poor in various cities of India. The trust has tie-up with various tie-up with prestigious hospitals.c)    PROVIDING ARTIFICIAL LIMBS AND CALIPERS - Periodic camps are organized wherein people from impoverished background are given artificial limbs and callipers that help them to be dependent free. Some of the recipients have taken to work to earn their livelihood with the help of these support systems.
