Making the differently-abled youth financially productive and self-reliant is still a big challenge. The support system, training, and other facilities are still lacking, once they cross 18 years of age. There are many government schemes to support them but many of these young people are not aware of those. They don’t have someone to guide and support them so that they will be able to get the benefits of these schemes. Support from the family is also lacking in many cases. Many of them are dropouts from the formal education system and don’t have a lot of job opportunities. If they are not earning, they became a burden on their families and lose respect and dignity. They face a lot of difficulty in carrying out day-to-day activities due to the lack of proper facilities and training. 
 We will be reaching out to around 500 differently-able young people in one year. We will organize various training programs for them( a minimum of 10 with 50 participants in each). We will provide mobility training, use of other senses to carry out the day to day activities, use of mobiles/computers and other functional life skills for the visually impaired group. We shall also be organising onfidence building and personality development activities, provide employability skills training, and assistance for self-employment. We are planning to start a helpline for the differently abled sector for quick redressal of their problems. We are also planning to create a state-level informal network of the individuals and organizations working in this sector.We will help them in getting the benefits of various government schemes meant for them. We will also try to mobilize support from various sectors of the community for making them self-reliant. 
 The lives of 500 differently-abled young people and their families will be enriched by means of heightening their sense of self. They will become more confident, will be able to carry out their day to day activities with more ease and comfort. This group will also act as a self-help support group. They will get to know each other’s lives and the challenges they are going through. They will also learn how someone else in the group has overcome those successfully. This will motivate others and they will get “ready to use guidelines” for tackling their own challenges.The financial status of the 100 differently-abled young people under this project will improve, either by job placements in the government or private sector or through self-employment.We will reach out to many more youths through our helpline and provide them with the necessary guidance and direction.

Environment

Nilona dam was built 40 year ago in order to supply water to Yavatmal. Gradually, storage capacity got reduced due to large quantity of accumulated silt leading to reduction of water supply to Yavatmal. Afterwards, Prayas took a pledge and carried out desilting project starting from April to June 2015. Team of 50 volunteers at Prayas, Yavatmal worked hard and removed 35,000 trollies silt and were given free to farmers of surrounding villages in order to increase the fertility of their farms. 12,000 citizens had visited Nilona dam for Shramadan. Citizens of Yavatmal contributed Rs. 25 lakh and remaining Rs. 11.43 lakh were provided by government of India. 
 For 2016, target of removing 1 lakh trollies silt has been set and will be distributed to farmers of surrounding villages for no cost. The actual work of desilting has been started on 6th March. Till now, 500+ trollies have been desilted. Our aim is to remove around 1000-1200 trollies silt per day. We will be spreading awareness in Yavatmal about proper water usage along with tree plantation and catchment area treatment so as to reduce the silt accumulation in future. 
 Citizens of Yavatmal have already taken the ownership of the project. The government of India also came forward to work with Prayas on this project. This became the PPP project model, which can be replicated anywhere. The fertility of agricultural field will get improved by use of silt and followed by increasing the farm yield. Also, awareness about proper use and conservation of natural resources will increase. Through awareness programs we intend to sensitize the cause and work on building capacity of our volunteers.

We are working with the housemaids and street vendors of Amravati city. We have conducted a survey of around 500 such families. They are from the unorganized sector, having marginal financial means to sustain themselves. Their children mostly study in either government schools or in sub-standard private schools that charge a nominal fee. There is no atmosphere of education in this locality and these children can’t afford tuition classes. The parents are not much educated themselves and are mostly busy with the task of making a living. They can’t give much attention or guidance to their children. All these reasons keep children from being able to explore and develop their own talents. They don’t have any exposure to opportunities.We have also conducted a survey of single-parent children from these schools and have identified 300 such children studying in and between grades 5 and 10. A lot of these children feel emotionally deprived because of the absence of one parent and are in need of behavioural counselling. 
 We are going to conduct free coaching classes during vacations for selective 250 children from different schools of Amravati city. We will have these at 5 centres, in 5 different areas of the city, catering to around 50 children at each place. We will select students from standard 8 and 9, most preferably. We will make the children take diagnostic tests, to begin with, and then plan out a syllabus for them based on the results. We will have these classes 6 days a week for 8 weeks, starting after the exams are over. We will arrange for teachers who shall be teaching them English, Maths and Science for 3 hours daily from 8 to 11 am. We will also carry out confidence-building and personality development activities.We will also work for developing their talents in extracurricular activities such as singing, dancing, sports, arts and crafts, etc. We will also organize follow-up activities, once a month.We will keep the watch on their progress coordinating with their schools for the whole year. 
 The academic performance of these 250 children will be better. They will also learn a few basic life skills. Their interest in studies will increase. The burden on their families will be lowered to some extent by the support we shall be providing for the entire year.The children with special skills will get the opportunities to develop their talents &amp; hence also develop confidence.

Providing educational support to 250 socio-economically needy students.

Healthcare

There are many patients suffering from Cancer and other major diseases. However, patients don’t feel that they are the victims, rather they take it as a challenge and fight it like a warrior. Their life is precious for the society’s point of view, as their fighting spirit and struggle can motivate many other human beings, and act as a therapy for people suffering from depression. Also, they will get an emotional support from the society which in turn will help them fight with the mental illness. 
 We will identify Cancer and other major fighters. We will document their inspiring stories and bring them to society via different platforms like stage shows, newspaper/magazines, social media etc. Also, we will provide financial help to towards their treatment and rehabilitation. We will also help them in getting financial and other help from government and other agencies working in this field. Cancer resource center will be formed where the information will be gathered and disseminated. Support groups for Cancer patients and their families will be created to spread awareness about the disease. 
 20 selective Cancer patients will get direct financial assistance from Prayas every year for their treatment. Many more will get financial and other support from government and other agencies, as a result of guidance given by Prayas. The concept of support groups for Cancer and other major illnesses will get popularized and help families and patients also.

We run a number of awareness programmes and skill development training sessions for young volunteers to help them grow holistically and learn skills that will hopefully lead to respectable employment. For Prayas to provide this level of educational care, we need a centre where training can be conducted and over 2,000 young volunteers have a platform on which they can voice their opinions. Our organisation has purchased 7,800 sq. feet of land for this but we are desperately in need of funds to construct the building to house all these students. 
 The Youth Motivation &amp; Resource Centre will provide a space for Sevankur, our programme to train young persons, as well as to teach volunteers how to conduct awareness sessions. Sevankur focuses on giving underprivileged students guidance, while teaching them leadership skills and providing vocational training, so they have a better chance at self-reliance. 
 Once our Youth Motivation &amp; Resource Centre is successfully built, Sevankur will be up and running and ready to change the lives for over 2,000 volunteers. Rs. 6,750 will help us set up a centre where we can begin creating a socially aware society among the disadvantaged.

Over 47.83 million youths are willing to work but have not found proper employment. The poor public education system is not only failing to keep pace with surging demand for skilled workers, but also often poor in quality. As income is directly related to the capabilities of an employee, honing and building the skills of adolescents is of prime importance. 
 Our Educational Sponsorship Programme identifies 20 bright students from weak economic backgrounds and offers them scholarships for their higher studies every year. We have already identified four students this year and have provided them with scholarships, books, uniforms, fees, food and coaching classes for those who are preparing for entrance exams.In addition, we also organise different workshops to provide guidance and personality development sessions for students. 
 This project will ensure that 20 needy students are able to finish their higher education and find rewarding employment. This will not only help them to grow professionally but help their families live a better life in the future.

Fund required for a poor person who has become almost penneless after a mssive operation

The formal education system is not very much aligned with the development of EQ &amp; SQ, which are very crucial for the success as well as happiness of life. Today despite all schooling efforts even by the elite parents, they are unable to meet out this most important need of their children. Another obstacle is the removal of all kinds of challenges form the lives of the children by the parents only. If there are no challenges, there is no growth is the law of nature. The family structure has become mostly nuclear, both parents are working in many families. So, they hardly get the quality time to spend with their children. The social sensitivity regarding the various social issues is almost lacking only because of lack of exposure &amp; proper training. The giving attitude is also diminishing. Lot of behavioural issues are emerging in the children like aggressiveness, non-sharing attitude, frustration/depression, difficulty to accept ‘NO’ etc. These are very important life skills to be learned at this age only. We are trying to give them an opportunity to learn these life skills through our Residential Summer Camps "SPARK" since last 11 years. 
 There will be 4 batches of the Residential Summer Camps in April &amp; May 2023. We expect around 150 + children of 10-20 years to participate in these camps from all over the Maharashtra state. These camps will be held at our training Centre at Amravati, where all the arrangements of food &amp; stay will be made. The participants will be from different socio-economic &amp; cultural backgrounds, some will be from very challenging family or socio-economic background. They will learn to live together during the camp duration at one place as a family. They will be given assignments as challenges to be completed by going into the community, in pairs or small groups every day. Selling of books in the colony, understanding the life of the street persons, visiting the district level officers &amp; understanding their life &amp; challenges, visiting the MIDC to learn the entrepreneurial spirit, visiting the old age home, blind schools etc. All of them will prepare a vision document of their life after 20 years &amp; the action plans needed to reach there. All these activities will help in the development of EQ &amp; SQ. 
 The children will develop EQ &amp; SQ by the way of completing the assignments, which are the real-life challenges only. They will learn to face the challenges of life &amp; how to overcome those. They will also have more clarity regarding their own future by going through the process of preparing a 20 years vision document by every participant. They will become more sensitive towards the various social issues like disability, old age issues, street persons etc. They will learn to find out the opportunities to learn from their surroundings. They will develop the leadership skills also. All these will help them to become responsible citizens. They will pass in many of these skills &amp; learning to their fellow friends at their own places after going back to their homes. Their families will also get sensitised towards all these issues.

Summer Camps of children for development of EQ & SQ

The summer camps are free for children during summer vacation. As, it is the time to inculcate the values in them, to make them learn the basic life skills, to help them in building their level of confidence & improving their self image as well as to invest in joyful & meaningful holidays. These things are not taught in schools. So, there is a need of supplementing such activities outside the school premises. 
 We have been organizing various activities for school children during summer vacations since, last 20 years in the form of residential & non-residential camps. This year we have planned 4 residential camps (SPARK-2015) for students of 8-12 standard of 8 days duration & 4 non-residential camps (Jidnyasa) for students of 2-10 standard of 15 days duration. 
 The confidence level of students will be increased. They will learn various skills by experiential learning methods like planning, marketing, communication, diary writing, event management, leadership, interviewing etc. They will also learn about the healthy habits like regular exercise, reading habit, choosing healthy food, living together in a group, sharing & caring, etc. Their observation will become more sharp & penetrating, they will be doing various science experiments related to our day to day life, thereby will develop a scientific attitude. They will enjoy the holidays with meaningful & useful learnings in these camps.

Prayas

Chetan Uchitkar is a nine-year-old boy who was born blind. Although he comes from a marginalised family who live in a small village in Washim, Chetin, he has a surprising learning capacity and always scores the highest marks for almost all subjects in his class.
 
Like his father and sister, Chetan has been a part of our Sevankur programme for the past three years, which has increased his confidence tenfold. His communication skills are tremendous and he loves interacting with other people. Chetan can now enjoy everything life has to offer after being a part of Sevankur with Prayas.

Santosh Pawar comes from Maharashtra’s Dharni tehsil. His mother works as a cook and his father is the main earner for the household. After he completed his schooling, he took the Pre-Medical Entrance Exam to be accepted into M.B.B.S but sadly failed because he had not received an education that would do him justice. 
 
When Santosh decided to retake the test the following year, he came to Prayas on suggestion of a friend. Prayas not only provided him with food, shelter and study materials, but also coached him on how best to prepare for the entrance test. With constant mentoring and support, Santosh succeeded in cracking the entrance exam and is now happily studying in his second year of M.B.B.S in Yavatmal.
