It was just me and my young son. After my son got married, he left me to stay with his in-laws, and I was alone. I am old, have pain in my legs, knees, shoulders and my entire body so I cannot work as I once did. Pure Devotion Foundation started in difficult times of Covid-19 to help the widows of Vrindavan who were facing food scarcity due to the lockdown. Started serving 80 matajis in the first month we reached 800 + within a few months and right now we are taking care of 1000 widows in Vrindavan, Goverdhan, Radha Kund, and Haridwar. Since the last two years, we have greatly impacted the lives of these widows who are abandoned by their families.Being shelterless at their advanced age and thousands of km away from their home town they have to face many challenges. They don't even have a proper shelter to stay in, so the last option is to beg or do domestic work in various homes. At this time we come to help them so that they don't have to beg or do any hard labour at this age. These widows come here from Bengal and engage themselves in Krishna bhakti sincerely to get Mukti in this life. So we take care that they don't have to worry about day-to-day needs and they can peacefully perform their sadhana bhajan. Our main purpose is that at this last stage of life they shouldn’t get disturbed for basic necessities, but should do their bhakti peacefully and achieve their aim Mukti for which they have come here.

Life does not seem to care even for the old, widowed women of Vrindavan.So it's important we do. With your help, we continue to provide daily rations to 400 aged women to sustain them and ease their woes, during FY 24-25. Listen to the heartwarming story of Anita, one of our cherished beneficiaries: Anita, a devoted wife and mother, would sit in the Bhajan Ashram, singing praises of Lord Krishna, her voice merging with the divine symphony of the town. It was through this devotion that she earned her daily bread.But fate had turned cruel over the last five years. Cancer had drained her strength, making it impossible for her to walk to the ashram. When her frail body refused to carry her voice beyond the walls of her small rented room, she resorted to begging on the streets. Even that, now, had become impossible. Her husband, Sujit, 80 years old, lay on a tattered mattress in the corner of their dimly lit room. He had once been a strong man, but time had withered him down to skin and bones. Neither of them had the strength to step out, neither had the means to afford medical treatment.Anita often wondered how life had come to this. She had given birth to a son, raised him with love, and dreamed that in her old age, he would be their support. But dreams do not always turn into reality. Five years ago, her son threw them out of their own house, leaving them to fend for themselves. The betrayal stung more than the cancer. Every night, Anita lay awake, staring at the ceiling, wondering how much longer she had to fight this battle alone. One evening, as she sat outside her tiny room, her frail fingers counting the beads of her prayer beads , Janaki, akind-heartedt woman from the Pure Devotion Foundation, approached her. She had been watching Anita for a while and knew that she needed more than just food.“Maa, we will help you with your treatment,” the woman said gently, holding Anita’s trembling hands.Tears welled up in Anita’s eyes. After years of suffering in silence, someone had finally heard her unspoken prayers.For the first time in years, hope flickered in her heart. Maybe, just maybe, Krishna had not abandoned her after all. There are innumerable women in Anita's condition in Vrindavan alone. We can help only a fraction of the vulnerable with our current resources, and we urgently need your support to extend our reach and provide for these poor widows. There are more than 30000 widows in Vrindavan and 90 per cent of them are above 65 age. At this age, their body doesn’t allow them to do any work so they have to opt for begging and in that they have too many challenges. They have to run from street to street for 7 hours a day just to procure two meals. Most Mataji are having knee and backbone problems where they can sit or walk for long, but to pay for their medical and accommodation bills they have to do domestic work like washing, wiping, groom in local households. They are here to do Sadhna and attain Mukti, but they are hardly any time left for sadhna. For the past 3 years, we are giving monthly grocery kits to 1000 Mataji’s and medical care to 200 Mataji’s. So now two problems are solved and now we are constructing two shelter homes for them in Vrindavan and Govardhan. Also, we have started an ‘Adopt a widow’ campaign where we are connecting widows with individual donors as it’s very hard for us to support 1000 widows alone every month. In adopting a widow we also add vegetables &amp; fruits along with grocery kits.We make sure that our Mataji’s shouldn’t beg for a single penny, nor she should worry about basic necessities. And at the advanced age of 75+, they also need personal care so for that we are constructing shelter homes for them. Now these widows whom we are supporting are having sufficient time for their sadhana and they invest time in chanting and reading holy books, Thakur jee sewa. They say that Lord has sent you to take care of them, and they are getting lost the love of their family with us.
