For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. “What will happen to them after me? I am 80+. I spend sleepless nights,” worries ex-Air Force officer, Group Captain AC Barua while talking about the future of the 28 destitute women under his care. “They have nobody in this world, sometimes they don’t remember their own names. They are absolutely alone,” he informs us as he goes from one room to the other meeting all the women who live at Seneh, the only home where they are loved and taken care of. After fighting for his country all his life, this octogenarian is now fighting to rescue homeless and abandoned women from dying on the streets. But he cannot do it alone. “Everyday I keep on getting calls from here and there. ‘Oh! there’s a woman lying here. Can you help?’ But I don’t dare to go and help because I don’t have the money. I don’t have the resources, our resources are very limited,” explains Gr. Capt. Many times these are women with mental health conditions and considered being a witch due to superstitious beliefs and beaten up as a result. They are victims of domestic abuse or widow mothers who are considered to be a burden on the family. Group Captain Barua has not only rescued them from critical conditions, he has provided them with urgent medical care, food and above all, a free safe shelter where they can live with love and care. Among these residents is Sarala Kalita who fled to save herself from the tortures of her alcoholic husband only to face neglect and trauma from her brothers- and sisters-in-law. “Both my brothers and their wives urged my father to leave me somewhere as they didn’t want to take care of me anymore. One day my brother’s wife didn’t even let me have food at home. She just wanted me to leave and go away. So that’s why, my father got in touch with Seneh through someone, and handed me over to Sir to take care of me,” says Sarita who has found joy in living at Seneh. “Coming to Seneh, it felt like I got a new life altogether. Sir has given me a harmonium. I love singing. It makes me forget everything and takes me to someplace else entirely,” she adds. More women like Sarala can find their way to a loving home like Seneh. All they need is a little bit of your kindness. “It is difficult to make both ends meet”To sustain their daily expenditure, Capt Barua needs approx ₹3 lakh a month and arranging the funds is a mammoth challenge for the NGO. “Our expenses are growing day by day. Residents are growing older, their sicknesses are increasing. At times we have to give them special food. They require more care so we have to get more employees. About half of them require leading around, 1-2 has to be fed also. It will be very difficult to sustain it unless we get help,” he added. One act of your kindness can save these abandoned women, with no one in this world, from struggling on the streets to survive. Karauli stands as one of Rajasthan's most deprived districts, where development has been hindered by political imbalance and a lack of education. The absence of established educational and healthcare facilities exacerbates the situation. Employment opportunities are limited to sandstone, silica mines, limited agriculture options. Consequently, impoverished individuals exhaust their resources on basics for good, treatment etc, neglecting their children's education and perpetuating a cycle of misery in the mines.PURE India Trust recognizes that education deprivation is at the core of many social issues. Thus, we offer scholarships, promote girl education, and provide skill training to empower the community. Through personal interactions and community discussions, we encourage parents to prioritize their children's education. Additionally, we've established "Pathashala" centers in various villages providing education to 500+ children and offering educational support, Career counseling, Education support, tuition classes etc. Our efforts have shifted parental mindsets, enabling girls' education in the supported 9 villages. Our holistic approach includes Education, Career Guidance, Scholarships, out door activities, Educational tour, skill development, sports encouragement, and provision of essential school supplies. Support rural children's dream of being educated

Due to Right to Education (RTE) law, students reaches up to 8th class without any knowledge assessment hence 70% of them can’t read their text books even in class 6 or 7. Many children don’t go for higher studies due to their poor educational foundation & family economic conditions. Also, 69% of girls stop going to school after 5th/8th class in the villages. They are not allowed to go to other villages or town for further studies due to poor financial condition and belief that “Girl will go to other house” why to waste money. Hence 42% girls suffer from “child marriage”. 
 PURE India has decided to provide basic education facilities under “Shiksha Rakshak” program by encouraging privileged people to “Own a Child’s Education”. We are providing following facilities to underprivileged children:Under “Each one Own One” initiative we encourage you to own “one girl child’s higher education” and PURE India trust will use “Open Schooling” for further studies and they would be provided Educational Classes locally in the villages - Educational Encouragement Scholarships - Open School Exam for further study & Tuition Classes in villages - Shiksha Pathashala to strengthen the foundation - Computer Shiksha for Global knowledge - Book Libraries for Learning & development - Support My Education: Uniform, Bag, Shoes, Stationery, Sports kit etc. - Eliminate Child marriage by creating awareness and recognizing parents allowing girls to get relevant education & go to work

Shiksha Rakshak

Silicosis is the oldest recorded chronic public health problem globally and particularly in developing countries. Silicosis is caused by inhaling dust containing crystalline silica particles. Community awareness and timely investigation of Silicosis are the most vital tools that can help wipe off this deadly disease. Karauli is one of the majorly affected districts in Rajasthan where thousands of mineworkers are battling silicosis and thousands of women become widows in early age of 30-40 years. Kosara, one of the worst affected village is known as "the village of widows”. As the poor are most vulnerable to Silicosis, it has failed to grab state or centre’s attention. Pure India Trust is working at grassroot level to eradicate the hazardous disease. We have been going village to village to create awareness and telling people about the prevention people can take on our expenses. We have also organized free medical camps to provide basic medical facilities to these people. Apart from prevention, imparting them education is also our focus area. "Education Enhancement scholarship", "Shiksha Pathashala", "Swatch Gaon movement" and "Girl Education encouragement" are our key ongoing programs in the villages. With your support, we plan to reach out to 40 villages of Karauli District. We wish to initiate a Mobile X- Ray van for 2500 potentially infected people. All X-Ray will be sent for investigation for Silicosis infarction and pneumoconiosis board for decision to help. "Shiksha Pathashala" program will break the Silicosis nexus by providing Skill Development training to 2000+ youth and help them get employment

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, many families have lost their earning members and struggling for their livelihoods. PURE India Trust has decided to support these households and underprivileged women who lost their husband/father/son due to COVID-19 and now it would be difficult for them to earn their bread and butter. We are helping these women to become Entrepreneurs in their own villages/communities by providing them Seed funding, Skill Training, Business Mentoring, Market linkages, MSME registration &amp; other required support. We have already empowered 300+ marginalized women to become Entrepreneurs in their communities.   We are looking to support 50 Covid Widows by establishing their own businesses so that they are financially independent.
