Stray dogs and other animals on the streets live a life of acute deprivation. The most painful part is the manner in which they meet their end–lonely and helpless. While some may sustain grave injuries after being run over by vehicles, others are at the risk of starvation and illness. Often, people ignore their plight as they are strays. But not Sudha Narayanan. It’s been almost a decade since Sudha decided to set up a hospital and shelter home for stray dogs and other animals. Sudha’s NGO Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre (CARE), since its inception in 2013, has saved the lives of thousands of stray animals with urgent trauma care and medical help. Sudha has shouldered a significant amount of the cost of treatment for these animals for a decade. But owing to a steep rise in the cost of medicines she is now struggling to keep the doors of CARE open for helpless street animals.  <img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/4f78733a-a2d5-485e-8a89-6a722dbc6540.jpg" />CARE cannot bear the cost of critical medicines needed to save sick and injured animals and urgently needs support so it can continue to rescue voiceless animals from the streets. Sudha says, “People pour acid on stray dogs and cats. They are beaten, have their legs broken and even sexually abused…injured animals often receive no care or attention from people around them. They are forced to crawl into a ditch where they die a painful death unnoticed.”<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/620bc0eb-ae3d-4df4-aa19-dc8ead2d215a.jpg" />CARE has taken up the responsibility of providing life-saving trauma care and medical intervention to the strays. The NGO’s rescue helpline receives numerous calls throughout the day. CARE’s team brings the rescued animals to its trauma care centre, where the sick and the injured are admitted and taken care of. With the help of proper medical care the animals are nursed back to health. The animals who are no longer fit to survive on their own due to serious injuries are kept in the NGO’s shelter home which is currently home to over 150 stray animals including dogs, cats, birds etc. The struggle to stay afloatWith their rescue helplines ringing off the hook and the number of helpless animals increasing with each passing day, CARE is finding it difficult to keep going. “The number of animals we save and shelter are increasing continuously. And if we don't get the support we require, unfortunately these animals will also be left without anybody to look after them. We need a huge amount of money for critical care medicines, for animal care items and for the essential food needed for the sick and injured animals. The country has lost 1.93 million* hectares of forest cover from 2001 to 2020.</li><li>Tree felling almost doubled between 2016-2019 in India: As per the Data from Environment Ministry, 76,72,337 trees were cut down between year 2016-17 to 2018-19</li><li>Air pollution on rise in Indian cities: The researchers speculated that increases in PM2.5 and NO2 in India reflect increasing vehicle ownership, industrialization and the limited effect of air pollution policies to date</li><li>North India staring at severe water crisis during summer 2021: The High temperatures in North India currently and in summer would worsen the water situation. ForestsByHeartfulness - Creating MiniForests of Indigenous and Native Species Across India

Nilona dam was built 40 year ago in order to supply water to Yavatmal. Gradually, storage capacity got reduced due to large quantity of accumulated silt leading to reduction of water supply to Yavatmal. Afterwards, Prayas took a pledge and carried out desilting project starting from April to June 2015. Team of 50 volunteers at Prayas, Yavatmal worked hard and removed 35,000 trollies silt and were given free to farmers of surrounding villages in order to increase the fertility of their farms. 12,000 citizens had visited Nilona dam for Shramadan. Citizens of Yavatmal contributed Rs. 25 lakh and remaining Rs. 11.43 lakh were provided by government of India. 
 For 2016, target of removing 1 lakh trollies silt has been set and will be distributed to farmers of surrounding villages for no cost. The actual work of desilting has been started on 6th March. Till now, 500+ trollies have been desilted. Our aim is to remove around 1000-1200 trollies silt per day. We will be spreading awareness in Yavatmal about proper water usage along with tree plantation and catchment area treatment so as to reduce the silt accumulation in future. 
 Citizens of Yavatmal have already taken the ownership of the project. The government of India also came forward to work with Prayas on this project. This became the PPP project model, which can be replicated anywhere. The fertility of agricultural field will get improved by use of silt and followed by increasing the farm yield. Also, awareness about proper use and conservation of natural resources will increase. Through awareness programs we intend to sensitize the cause and work on building capacity of our volunteers.

Regenboog is a charity organisation that is based in Tiruvannamalai. It is involved in the fields of children’s welfare, rural healthcare, education and environmental care. Presently Regenboog serves the society through following projects:<ul><li>Mobile hospital: Mobile hospital visits remote villages and offers free medical treatment to the people living there and a team of a doctor, two nurses, pharmacist and social worker visits Monday to Saturday villages. They offer basic medical care and also good health education. Every year this project treats over 30,000 patients.</li></ul><ul><li>Mobile Library: Mobile library working hard to bring back the reading habit among the kids. It has over 15,000 books and it visits the Government schools, villages, streets and delivers books every fortnight. Last year kids read over 30,000 books.</li></ul><ul><li>Evening Schools: Evening schools works for the children from the slums and villages where they miss good care about their education and future. It supports over 300 students every evening and they get great care ad education to go on.</li></ul><ul><li>Naviram Children’s Park &amp; Science Park: An ignored ground of Government was turned into a unique park today with the help of the government. Regenboog created a park for children in 2018 but now it turned into a great place for everyone at Tiruvannamalai. And also the Government built a huge Science Park and that too maintained by Regenboog India Foundation which has the visitors of over 9,000 people at weekends. This explains Science as an easy way for the kids.</li></ul><ul><li>Water for animals: Regenboog built over 10 water holes (small ponds) in and around of famous Arunachala Holy Mountain to feed water to the deers, birds and other animals during the summer times.</li></ul><ul><li>Environment Project: Regenboog is maintaining a nurser with over 10,000 saplings which are going to plant in and around Tiruvannamalai foothills and other regions too. Regenboog also involved cleaning and forest fire fighting on the Arunachala hill every year. Also, we are actively involved in the cleaning of Parvathamalai Hills.</li></ul><ul><li>Educational Support Project: Under this project, 24 students are supported for their school and University education.</li></ul><ul><li>Covid works of Regenboog:: Since Covid starts Regenboog actively involved in the field works at the frontline together with the various Government departments. We started mobilising the resource materials for like surgical masks, sanitisers, surgical gloves, surgical caps, medicines, PPE for the government hospital doctors since the Covid surge started here. Also created and spread various awareness vides together with the police department. Also, our medical team was involved in the frontline work which included taking swab tests, monitoring the quarantined patients and offered medical treatments to the people during the pandemic times. So far, we have distributed so far over 500,000 masks, 3,000 litres of sanitisers to the health professionals. </li></ul>
