RMD PAIN AND PALLIATIVE CARE TRUST (RMD), a registered Charitable Trust established in the year July 2005, is distinguished as a system provider of pain and palliative hospice services to the terminally ill in Tamil Nadu. The vision is to provide individualized care through outpatient, inpatient, home based and hospital care.The growing need for a mission to expand the reach of palliative care services paved the way to form a trust in the year 2005. Since then the trust has been providing health awareness for the general public, training and education for nurses, psychosocial workers and caregivers.RMD also provides care for elderly, bedridden patients with life limiting or neurological diseases or with advanced cancer. It provides palliative care services for lower socio-economic background people in centres located at Maduravoyal, Chennai District, Madurai and Thiruvallur Districts respectively. Currently, these services are being catered to 400 patients to improve their quality of life and promoting personal dignity through health education and training awareness workshops by a highly qualified and trained professional.The need of the hour for palliative care is a multidisciplinary trained team of bedside caregivers and nurses for elderly and palliative care thus urging RMD to get involved in various training programs for nurses, attenders, volunteers, doctors, community workers, VHN’s, bedside attenders and home health care providers. RMD launched an exclusive training academy for health and empanelled with various government schemes.

The terminally ill patients with chronic illnesses are sent away after being told that there is no treatment beyond curative stage. The patients and families are pushed into helpless situations. The relatives neither have the means or the expertise to take care of them and the cost for medicines, dressing, other minor procedures and nursing cannot be afforded by them. They also need to work to support the other family members as they work as daily wagers 
 Karunasagar is a hospice that has 50 beds that takes care of cancer and non-cancer patients and elderly people with advanced, terminal diseases. The center has a professionally trained team of doctors, nurses, therapists and counselors to take care of such patients. The treatment is provided by a modern expert medical advice and team.Nursing care, maggot removal, pain management, bed care, catheter changes: all are done. The hospice provides shelter, medication and food free of cost. 
 The integrated professional palliative care strives to provide dignity lives to the patients who have been bed-bound. They are given baths, dressing of wounds is done and care is taken to minimise their suffering. This unit is committed to give a quality life to these people, who, otherwise would be with no place to go to and shall suffer with no access to palliative medical care.

Karunasagar- Hospice for cancer and non-cancer poor patients

“KARUNASAGAR” is a part of RMD pain and palliative care trust, providing hospice services for terminally ill patients. The focus of “KARUNASAGAR” is on providing care to patients from the lower socio-economic group. It is situated in leased premises located at No-158, 5th Cross Street, Pallavan Nagar, Maduravoyal, Chennai - 600 095. It consists of 50 beds with trained professionals in palliative care, four beds for end of life care male and female wards isolation room and room for an exclusive area for the end-of-life care with an experienced and qualified palliative medical team. There are a lot of people who approach us for residential support and taking care of such needy people. As RMD hospice already has a team, it would be able to intervene and provide care. 
 RMD shall be getting involved in various training programmes for nurses, attendees, volunteers, doctors, community workers, VHNs, and home health care providers. RMD has launched an exclusive training academy for healthcare training.Our Courses are accredited, and we have empanelled with various government schemes to give bedside training to underprivileged girls and also give them job opportunities. So far, we have trained 400 candidates, and 80% have got placed in various hospitals. •Create a replication model. The organisation has been able to establish a sustainable project like hospice and hospital-based care for over 110 patients. •Provide community-based home care. •Training and education. •Integrated elderly palliative services. The ward would have ten beds exclusively for such patients. It would involve nurses, physiotherapists, occupational rehabilitation care specialists, led by a two-doctor team. 
 The unit shall be a pilot to care for patients who cannot afford long term ICU in corporate and they need continuous pain and other interventions. It would be a unique facility where we allow DNR (do not resuscitate) families to be around patients, reduce intervention, thereby giving them the treatment towards supportive palliative care.“We add life to days, not days to life”. The support for the candidates will increase the staff where there is a huge demand for such staff nurses who are well qualified.The ward will look after ten such patients who are severely ill and do not have anybody to look after them.

MARUMAI

We are seeking your support for our inmates.During this covid crisis since their families are not financially in a position to support, these terminally ill patients are entirely supported by our Trust (medicines, Nursing care food and shelter, other expenses). 
 The focus is to provide quality of life for terminally ill from the underprivileged they are given care, pain management, counselling, bed side care and support for daily living activity for the patients in this condition. The organization provides pain relief and palliative care to terminally ill patients and their families through medical care and counselling. The organization provides out/in patient service and home visits, family support and counselling, grief and bereavement support. The beneficiaries of the care are terminally ill &amp; geriatric patients from the economically weaker sections of the society.  
 The most effective means of judging the success of the project was to observe and interact with the patients at Karuansagar. Many of the beneficiaries of the Trust have been abandoned by their families and in some cases, have been cheated of their wealth as well. While most are old and suffering from long-term and/or terminal illnesses, there were some younger patients with cerebral palsy and in one case, paralysis. The period of stay ranged anywhere from a few months to many years. Many patients reported feeling much better and recovering significantly following their admission at Karunasagar.

Many patients were admitted after the pandemic's abrupt onset, and medical faculty and facilities were in short supply. Nurses were one of the most crucial individuals in saving lives at such times. However, we are all aware that the nurse count was insufficient and that the fight was real. Nurse training and medical education are critical to eradicating this problem. Is it, however, possible for everyone to finance an education? That's all there is to it. 
 RMD has created an exclusive program to assist people who want to pursue a career in medicine but can't finance it. It offers free nurse training to those with a minimum of a 10th grade education (including dropouts). All students will have exposure to the world of patient care and medicine, as well as a job placement with a fair wage, as a result of this training. 
 Through this training, not only will these students receive excellent education and job, but also will be a part of the community that works towards the welfare of the people. It creates more faculties in the field of medicine which in the future will result in productivity when it comes to any sudden outburst in the health section.
