“They insert a candle in the vagina, fingers are inserted (in the vagina) and tortured, and if children don’t relent even then, they put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. Rotary Club of Chennai Mid City Charitable Trust was registered in the year 2002 by the Rotary Club of Chennai Mid City &amp; has been committed to its vision of "Empowering the Girl Child".In 2008, they entered an MOU with the Government of Tamil Nadu to build infrastructure and provide holistic support to the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mogappair East, Chennai. In the last 6 years alone, the Trust has invested over ₹ 3 Crores in the school which includes a 12-classroom block.The Trust has from time to time responding to the specific calls of society, be it flood relief or COVID-19 support. In 2020, the Trust raised ₹ 75 lacs and built a COVID ward in the Hindu Mission Hospital, Chennai. In continuation with our commitment to our vision, we are now entering the next phase of infrastructure development in the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mogappair East. Thanks to our sponsors, the student strength has been steadily increasing in the school which now stands at close to 931 - almost a 300% increase from the time we entered the school! This has initiated a need for a new 24-classroom building and other amenities in the school for a cost of over ₹ 5 Crores.

The Girl's school in Chennai has an area of 4.5 acres with easy access to public transport. The area is grossly underutilised in an area where there is an urgent need for educational facilities. There is a potential to cater to over 1200 girl students. Infrastructure needs to be created for the target student population.The Rotary Club of Chennai Mid City Trust has adopted the school through an MOU with the Govt of Tamil Nadu. The Trust has already invested in buildings and projects worth about 5 crores over the past 12 years. This has helped increase the student population from 320 to 931 in four years. The Trust also commissioned one building last year of 9 classrooms.There is an urgent need for one more building of at least 15 classrooms and attendant facilities of toilets, and labs. 
 We are building an additional building with 15 classrooms. We also propose to build a new Toilet block with 20 WCs- Total cost that is left to be raised is Rs. 20.75 lakhs of the total 4.11 Crores.Additionally under the MOU with the TN Govt., the Trust has taken on the task of maintenance of the school, engagement through a School Council and promotion of better education through additional teachers etc., as needed. 
 With the enhanced infrastructure, The Trust intends to make education available to over 1200 students. The better maintenance of the school sports grounds and add-on teaching facilities promote the holistic development of the girls.We intend the school to be a model school for all Govt. School in the State.
