The target colonies are inhabited by socio-economically underprivileged Dalits and tribals who are on the lowest rung of the socioeconomic ladder. The Dalits are engaged in agricultural labour totally while the Yanadis are into rickshaw pulling scavenging and household work in order to eke out barely a hand to mouth existence. The Dalits and Yanadis are socially ostracized sections, considered untouchable by caste/ social origin. The most pathetic reality in India is that they are not allowed to draw water from the main village wells. They live in separate settlements outside the main villages and they draw their drinking water from the village tanks, where the villagers wash their cattle. Inaccessibility to clean and safe drinking water is a serious problem, which is aggravated by the ever-increasing rate of the water-borne diseases among the target populations. The target women spend considerable time walking long distances and carrying heavy loads of water. Due to malnutrition and heavy work, their physical resources are consumed, increasing the already high malnutrition rates. This situation gigantically increases the already cramped workload of these poor women, leaving them no time for developmental activities. 
 To ensure a permanent supply of clean and safe drinking water to the downtrodden target groups through the installation of bore wells in all of the target villages. The intervention will be completely through people’s participation. In each village, Water and Sanitation Committees will be formed with Village Heads, Leaders of self-help groups and Leaders of Youth Associations. Considering the population and need in each of the target villages, points will be identified for the installation of bores for the supply of drinking water. Further, these points will be verified by the Ground Water Department Engineers by request. As per their suggestions, identify the exact location of bore well points in order to avoid the failure of bores. Further, getting permissions from Village Panchayats and install the bore wells. Sanitation facilities will be arranged in the bore well areas and the wastewater during the collection of drinking water will be diverted to recharge pits to be dug nearby the bore wells. These recharge pits help to maintain the groundwater levels even in the hot summer also. Two members from each village (youth) will be selected and trained in repairing of the bore wells. The Water and Sanitation Committees will utilize their services whenever the bore wells need service.
