Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society (SHEOWS) is a "home away from home" for the abandoned elderly of our country. The organization is registered under the Society Registration Act of 1860 and the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act, of 1976. Since the last 20 years we have been providing free shelter, food, cloth, medical care, love, and affection to the destitute, abandoned, homeless, and PWD (Person with disability) elderlies with the help of generous and mindful people of our community.The Old Age Homes stand with a Special Care Unit, 24X7 Doctors and nurses, Physiotherapy unit, Pathology lab, Digital X-ray monitoring machine, an in-house Pharmacy, and all the necessary equipment required to treat any sort of illness or disease. All these facilities are provided to the elderly completely free of cost. Most of these elders are picked up from the streets of Delhi NCR or brought in by Police/hospital authorities.Our caregivers facilitate a homely environment in the Ashrams and ensure the socio-emotional well-being of the beneficiaries. SHEOWS is currently running 2 old age homes , Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram of Delhi and Garhmukhteshwar, since 2003 &amp; 2008 respectively. These are the homes of 600 elderly residents who were found alone and abandoned, left to die on the streets. In the last 20 years, we have served over 7,000 elders out of which more than 2,600 have been rehabilitated back to home.The aim is to serve every destitute, orphan, needy, abandoned, specially challenged elderly by providing them free shelter, food, clothes, healthcare, love, and respect. With COVID-19 pandemic maximizing the risk to elderly lives across the world, there is desperate need for the society to focus on the indigent elderly of the society. With the COVID-19 pandemic worsening the risk to the lives of these elderly, we at SHEOWS are trying to save maximum lives by conducting rescue of such elderly who are homeless, abandoned, homeless and a victim of elderly abuse and abandonment.  The impact that we wish to create is to save maximum indigent elderly lives. Provide social security and basic amenities along with comprehensive medical care facilities to the once abandoned and homeless elderly (all free of cost). The project will enable reduction in mortality rate of such population and enable an improved quality of life and dignity to the indigent elderly population. The project will provide medical care benefits to those who once lived without food, shelter and clothing. It will improve the physical and mental health of the abandoned elderly rescued by SHEOWS. The most at-risk population amidst the COVID-19 population will be served and saved through this project that is elderly who are sixty years and above, without food/clothing/shelter, co-morbid and a victim of elderly abuse and abandonment.

Our nation used to be one that is rooted in tradition and culture. One that prides itself in respecting our elders, related or not. But sadly, the society is no longer aligning along these lines of value and culture.  According to the 2011 census, more than 18 million elderlies are abandoned in India with no way home. There has been a  rapid rise in the aging population which is  accompanied by a silently growing pressure on all aspects of care for older persons – financial, health and shelter. This pressure has considerably increased after the pandemic. Apart from this, the current working culture  and a dynamic shift towards nuclear family patterns has all the more increased elderly abandonment. As a result, frail and ailing elderly are found on the roadsides, being vulnerable to several mishappenings and helplessly awaiting their end. 
 <a href="https://www.sheows.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">SHEOWS</a> (Saint Hardyal Educational &amp; Orphans Welfare Society) strives to make India a better and safer place for the elderly to live.
