For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. We at Sam and Jane Foundation (SJF) strongly believe that awareness, education, literacy, and training allow women to make life-determining decisions within their family and community. Women empowerment is one of the areas SJF works on, and SJF executed empowerment training for rural women through “SJF Skill Development Centres” located in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh. SJF’s supporting initiatives are driven towards the livelihood and income generation for poor and disadvantaged rural women by upscaling them as breadwinners in their families. Issues we face in this project include convincing male partners / Illitercery among rural women / social norms and negative attitudes / lack of self confidence 
 Informing women and their families on the advantages of skill development and vocational education, which may lead to employability, is very important. Specifically, women should be targeted by explaining how inculcating income-generating skills and activities within them wouldsubsequently lead to improving their social and economic status. Show examples of the successful women who made their lives better through skill development. 
 SJF skill development center has trained about 500 rural women in embroidery and handcrafts, these small initiatives helped shape the rural women to lead dignified lives in this harsh world and positively respond to the constantly changing challenges. The Foundation has been working with the women in the Tenali region of Guntur District. The Foundation has mobilized to get organized as women groups and empowered them to take up development initiatives by securing business loans from the bank to start their sustainable livelihood options and thereby achieve self-reliance.

Skill Development Training and Women Empowerment

The majority of children living with HIV are infected via mother-to-child transmission (MTCT), during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. This is sometimes referred to as ‘vertical transmission’ or ‘parent-to-child transmission. One of the most devastating impacts of HIV is the loss of both or single parent(s). In this regard, it is often children who feel the greatest impact via the loss of parents or older relatives, such children are orphaned and vulnerable to HIV. The government in India supports such orphaned HIV-positive children by distributing free medicines, but that is not sufficient, they need nutrient-rich food and immunity boosters to survive. 
 Our goal is to extend support to children orphaned due to AIDS with nutrition and immunity boosters so that we can literally keep children survive. HIV-infected children who are significantly underweight are much more likely to die than HIV-infected children who are not malnourished. Given the important relationship between HIV, nutrition, growth, and survival of children living with HIV, it is recommended to take care of HIV children with a nutrient-rich diet along with regular medicines. Nutritional assessment, including an evaluation of the child's growth pattern, appetite, diet is important, can help in the early identification of growth faltering. Guidelines suggest that asymptomatic HIV-infected children may require up to 10% more energy than uninfected children, and growth should be monitored very carefully to detect any increased energy needs. Our team with the help of local healthcare professionals, will carefully work on the dietary and nutrient needs of the children and supply the same on monthly basis to the selected HIV Orphans 
 Adverse nutritional outcomes, such as abnormalities in growth and metabolism, are common in children infected with HIV and can be major contributors to both morbidity and mortality. The poor nutritional status of children living with HIV, including those children who have already started ART, is closely associated with their likelihood of dying.
